Thanks for the suggestion on this one. Blown away by how good it is. No more powerbank style/built in lipo spot welders. I'm using just 1/3 of a 12S8P A123 pack (very good condition probably barely cycled) so I have an IR of like 4.2mΩ on the whole 12V pack that I'm using. I put it on the second capacity setting since its about 19.75Ah and then I think I go up to about 30C. I"m getting solid welds on 0.20x8mm pure nickel and honestly I think it might have the juice to do 0.30mm pure nickel if I paralleled another 12V pack of 4S8P of A123 ANR26650M1B cells.

@@stevenc22 well....I only had 7 Headway 38120HP cells left after I accidentally killed one so I built a 3S2P Headway pack and then just used one less series group on one of my A123 4S8P M1B packs so it would be a 3S8P..... Lets just say after reviewing the instructions and and the chart for the Ah/C rate.....I had a 36Ah and I've been using 20C-30C and I'd guess its probably much closer to 30C than 20C because....at 1080A I blew her up....which...ya know its rated at 900A The traces seem to be incredibly delicate or I really just gave her way too much juice. I also blew one of the fets but that seems to be a result of some traces going first and where I still had good traces is where I blew a fet. Just a massive crater in the fet. I desoldered it and I might try to repair the board by replacing all the fets with IRL40SC228's since that's what I have laying around right now.

Steven, what a neat review! I had just bought this & received it a couple of days ago, but haven'y yet tried it. Your review will be very helpful to any potenttial buyers, being that there is hardly any feedback available about this unit, and I took my chances when I bought it. Your review is the first I've found, and it is inspiring.

awesome tutorial! I got one to try along with a 80C battery at 16V. Set to 5ah and 40C and 2nd gear. I get a beep and no weld. Soon as I bring the needles together and BEEP. adjusting settings didn't help. Tried another one with different batteries. Lots of beeps and no welds. Really jealous of how anyone here got this working!

Hello, I bought one of these based on this excellent review (V1.4). I am quite happy and even can weld a copper nickel sandwich. 0.1 mm Plated Nickel with 0.1mm Copper. I do that at 14.8V - 2nd setting - and measure 900-1000A current. I use 4 very old (> 10years) 5000hAh 45-90C batteries in parrallel. Before pushing the JQ-DHJ02 even futher I have to install first some TVS diodes for surge protection (probably the 1.5KE18A ) Any way the question I have: Is it possible to operate this board with a foot switch? Thanks

quick question - an aircraft - 3s 11.1V lipo battery with 100C rating (but only 1550mAh) will work fine? it should give 155Amps. it has only 5 ohm resistance per cell.. so it should be able to give high bursts of current. any ideas will this work fine?

I purchased the same spot welder and battery but I can't get this unit to detect when I am placing the needles, after I set my settings I just hear the indicator beep occasionally go off randomly, but never when I make contact with the nickel. Do you have any ideas? I was also using the bifrc spot welder with the same battery and that worked well until it I overworked it causing it to overheat and stop sending a pulse.

Steven, by the way..... I intend to use my car battery with its 625 CCA rating to power this unit. Do you have any advice or opinion which setting on this device I should start with? I really haven't any idea how the 625 cold-cranking-amps of my car battery translates to the c-rating of a lipo battery, and so don't know what c-rate setting to set it at.

A car battery has a capacity of about 50ah. So your battery has about a 10c-15c rating

I'm switching from sla batteries (12v x 5) to 26650 cells in the original cases. That is 16 cells / case. I can solder nickle OK, I suck at batteries. In my case, I have a 110v mig welder I could use for power (or sla batteries) From the vids I have watched on 'spot welders' not many promote the end be 'flat' when in contact with the nickle strip. In my case, I would prefer to 'ground the nickle strip to a clamp' and then use a single probe as the 'contact'. 4 spots would be 4 different touches and the ground would not be moved. Alternatively, the negative side would have a probe 4x the size of the contact probe. I would prefer to spot weld a tab of nickle and then solder the rest as the bike would be a 'high vibration' zone. (or spot weld the cells and then add a dab of solder on an edge or a hole in the middle) If I find a small dia tip is perfect for a single thin strip, would that mean the same timer would work for thicker material if the dia of the probe was larger. Sparky

Please don't use a mig welder on batteries.

Excellent review, and like you I've had great success using the BIRFC welder w/o the inconsistencies you talked about. I'm wondering if that's because I'm using the capacitor that came with it, providing a more consistent current hit? This thing SUCKED!!!! I TESTEDNIT 2X. first time it didn't work so good. 2nd test it worked very well. Was able to weld .2 tin strips. Then it was time to finish my pack and it wouldn't weld anything together. Not even the cheap fake tin strip that came with it. AND The plastic part of the power button popped off all by itself. I was trying to weld and not even touching & pop it flew over my head somewhere never to be seen again. It's not convenient to return things to amazon for me so I'm stuck with this inoperable trash ! Very disappointed! Now I'm not gonna have my bird working for the ESK8 convention in Las Vegas next week!!!! SOBYEAHBIM PISSED! DO NOT BUY THIS!!!
