Trimming your pet's nails can be nerve wracking. Many dog owners do not want to perform this grooming task for fear that they will clip the nail too short. Using a dog nail grinder provides peace of mind, as it slowly files the nail instead of clipping off a large piece at once. The Dremel PawControl is a new model from the Dremel company that is specifically designed to help pet owners trim their pup's nails with ease.
Full review here: topdogtips.com/dremel-pawcont...
There are pros and cons to using nail grinding tools, but many pet owners and professional dog groomers find them very effective. It is still possible to grind the nail down too short, but it's much less likely to expose the quick while using a nail grinder than it is when using traditional dog nail clippers.
"The Dremel PawControl will work for about 1.5 hours of continuous use. After that, it will start to slow down. The company states that it will run for up to 3 hours on a full charge. However, you probably won't be using it for that long (unless your'e a professional groomer), so I don't think that will be a deal breaker for most pet owners."

3:19 - This will be obvious to anyone that owns power tools - The lock button should only be used when changing bits (using the wrench to loosen/tighten the collet (the housing that the bit slides into place and you manipulate with the wrench)). Without the lock button, the motor shaft would just spin and frustrate your attempts to change bits. Hitting the lock button while the motor is spinning would be very BAD for your tool. Instead, adjust the power switch to the off position if you want to take a breather. For my pooch, I let her get used to the sound of the grinder before I attempted to use on her nails. I actually turned it on, put it down on the floor, and would put a treat on top of the motor housing for her to retrieve. Her fondness of treats and her association with getting said treats before & after getting her nails trimmed developed a positive outlook on the whole process. BTW - she hates vacuums but is perfectly fine with the grinder - the noise level & frequency are not alarming, but it's always good to introduce slowly and take into consideration there's never one-for-all solution.

I'm new to Dremels, but this thing has been great. kzbin.infoUgkxfPgcZ5_Cl0HDUKkMJAKde11YKQZVgMoR The variable speed is awesome and the cordless aspect makes it so easy to work with. I am constantly finding uses for it that make tasks easier. Recently I put in a new deadbolt on one of our doors. I knew I had to enlarge the hold where the deadbolt goes into the door frame. At first I thought I would have to get a big router and figure out how to use it for that, but then I rermembered we have the dremel. I was able to enlarge the hole almost as easy as if I was drawing with a pen. It's also great for grinding our dog's nails done and so many other household tasks.

There are 3 positions on the housing so that you can position the guard closer or farther from the sanding disc, depending on your needs. I could not for the life of me get the nail guard to position 3 which is what I need for my pup. I contacted a Dremel rep who let me know that the 3rd position is for use with a different Dremel tool, and for this particular Dremel, the position should be at 2. If you need it to be closer (as I do) then move the position of the disc up in the shaft. Worked like a charm!

Anyone who has ever used a rotary tool should realize that to use this on a dog with long hair on the paws could be quite dangerous without the guard in place that covers the spinning shank. Long hair could instantly wrap around the shank and result in quite a severe injury to the digit.

I have mine arriving this evening. I'm using it on a small Maltese. The whole reason I bought it was because of the fact that it's got that top disc and the guard. I have used other dremels before where they just have the spinning band and they have caught her hair and it's a nightmare from you-know-where.

Have this but I'm still trying to get the hang of it. The blade pulls the nail and doesn't really get a "grip" to trim. Should I make it closer or shorter? I have to hold the nail in order to get it stable but then that makes it really hard to get to the nail. I'm a bit nervous on tryin the cylinder grinder. I think I can hold the paw squeezing the nail out so I can grind it with my other hand. I didn't see where you demo'd that. Appreciate any suggestion.

My research the noise is the big issue causing stress for the dogs. The Dremel tool is too loud for my dogs. I use the lucky tail model. It's 100 percent more quiet, lighter, easier to handle, easier tip change.

Agreed. It's the noise that does the drimmel in for my and my friends dogs. I have two different size dremels for other purposes. So of course I tried them. But they're just a hard no.
@kontoname

What a load of crap. Did you ever visit school? 100 percent more quiet means it has no sound at all. Not even a nail clipper or scissors are absolutely silent. Secondly dogs are not meant for idiots. They need to be trained so they do NOT get stressed or frightened by loud noises. What I see is you just not having a clue how to properly train a dog so it doesn't get stressed out by every day noises that could appear ANYWHERE, even just walking the streets and somebody using a power tool for work. Get a cat instead please. They don't need as much guidance from their owner as dogs do.

It's not as easy changing the sanding disc for the sanding drum as you said. First, you have to remove the piece with the blue bottom to which the sanding disc fits. If you place the wrench on the bottom mandrel, it turns without stopping and without releasing the piece that holds the disc. If I could take the disc holder off, I might be able to install the sanding drum. Help!

Sound wise is it how does it compare to other grinders? My dogs really that their nails clipped, and Ive had to take them to get them done at the vet. Which really does add up. One dog is only 16# so I can hold him and do it (But I hate doing it because he really hates it and it's stressful for both of us.), but the other is 75# and really fights it, and its really hard for me to cut them. I even bought the nail clipper the groomer uses to trim larger dogs nails. =(

You can't just introduce this to your dog day one and expect to grind all his nails. You need to train your dog to accept it. Start by having the machine on near your dog and give lots of pats and encouragement (or even a biscuit). Over time slowly move the device near him until he is more curious than scared and starts sniffing it. Eventually try touching one nail with it. slowly work up to use it longer and on more nails. Throughout the entire experience give affection and re-assurance and dog treats if your dog is food driven.

This is a waste of money. Just use a regular sanding bit or grinding head on pretty much any rotary tool. Go slow and don't take too much off the first few times. Most dogs nails grow a "hook" at the end when they're getting too long. Taking off the hook is not a worry. Just take a little off every few days and both you and your dog will get used to it. You can see the quick better from underneath, especially with black nails. Treats always help.

Not intended to be rude, but the example was done completely wrong. She mentioned the 45° angle and then proceeded to not do it at that angle. No one should EVER go straight at the nails, like seen here. It should start perpendicular to the bottom of the paw and work up to a 45° angle. This is due to the curve in their nails and the quick.
