New drug effective at preventing growth of lower-grade brain tumors, clinical trial finds

A new drug that is in a phase 3 clinical trial has proven effective at preventing the growth of lower-grade brain tumors, with doctors saying nearly half of the patients in the trial haven’t needed chemotherapy or radiation years later. NBC News’ Lindsey Reiser has the details on the treatment.

The government needs to start regulating drug prices. If drug companies are able to change as much as they want the majority of people who can benefit from this drug won’t be able to afford it.

A similar IDH inhibitor tibsovo is like $30k per month and is used for more common cancers too. Vorasidanib is probably going to be more

With all the breakthroughs in cancer cures or getting close to cures, I don't think it will be too many more years that cancer deaths will start declining. Lets just hope that its affordable for everyone.

This isn’t a cure. We’re not close to a cure at all. All these treatments just slightly delay disease progression. Maybe you’ll get at most 5 years more, at most.

I’m getting it from my oncologist in post falls Idaho. They set up a single person clinical trial. I’ve been on it for 3 weeks. Go to your oncologist and ask nicely and when they won’t do it; nicely demand it.

Is this drug available as of 06/2024? My son had brain surgery 4/2003 and 5/2023. Slow growing tumor returned 20 years later. At 1 year follow up visit with surgeon I ask was anything available and he said no without looking at me eye to eye. So I'm just curious to know is there anything new on the horizon. Thanks

My son also will be looking to Vorasidinib ..very successful in stopping this horrible beast. Available in Australia in a few months I'm told by the supplier. Keep pushing for it for your son . My son has done extensive research and its great stuff.
