So worried. This is essentially a new story based on an adaptation of an adaptation of incomplete original base lore. Will they be able to help themselves from using current tropes [for 'modern audiences'] instead of building a Dune Unveverse story.
@PTNLemayАй бұрын
I would like to see them showcase something like the Landsraad. If I'm remembering my lore correctly it existed before the Butlerian Jihad, so it should still be active and present at this point in history. I’m imagining something like the big senate hall in Star Wars episode 1,2,3. Only with just humans instead of all those aliens. Just a little nod to the fact this universe is big. It’s not just 3 planets where a couple of noble houses skirmish one another, it’s meant to include a ton of inhabited worlds spread across the galaxy. You don’t need to go deep on all of them, but show that they’re there.

I just watched the trailer. No doubt about it, it looks fantastic. I'm glad it's on HBO. HBO does a good job at creating multiple great seasons of a show unlike others (Netflix's) buisness plan of one great season then off-the-rails we go. One item that has me both excited and worried is having Travis (Ragnar) Fimmel play such a central character. As we all know he was incredible in Vikings but his presence in a movie or show has almost seamed like a curse since then. A second potential mixed blessing is the extensive involvement of Brian Herbert. Often having the creator of the story deeply involved is a wonderful way to ensure the soul of a story comes to the final product. Unfortunately 'soul' is not a word often used when discussing Brian's work in the extended Dune universe. Don't get me wrong I'm sure I'll watch all six episodes no matter what but I sincerely doubt I would watch a second season if we are left with a Warcraft in space.

Yep.....not too excited. Recent Fantasy and Space Opera TV adaptations have sucked so bad and the bar has fallen so low that I think they've actually had a carry-over effect and a HUGE negative impact on the audience's perception of recent theatrical releases. Looks like it's gonna be another Game of Thrones knock-off....in Space... with lots of steampunk. Sadly, it will have little creative originality with TONS of fan service and callbacks (call-forwards?) alá Dune 1 and 2 shoe horned in. Should be cleverly written like Shogun....but will likely be closer to Rings of Power's clunky slop....but chock full of exposition and voice-overs (reading from "Empirical Records/Memoirs") describing what we SHOULD be watching. TELLING is cheap...SHOWING is expensive. Remember, these TV adaptations are not created for the real fans but rather use the original IP as marketing to "attract" an audience that either saw DV's movies (at home on streaming) or vaguely recognize the book titles as some science fictiony thing the nerds read way back in middle school .....sigh.
