There are certain 80’s songs that give me an overwhelmingly painful and bittersweet sense of nostalgia. This is definitely one of them.

Even today at 52 I’m still one of their biggest fans. I’m looking forward to seeing them in March at The Prudential Center in Newark. This would be my 10th time seeing New Edition live. I still remember them performing for Harlem Week when they first came out in 1983. Much love from Harlem NYC ❤❤❤

Ultimate kool song, now forty years old, by a kool boy band. Before there were New Kids, All-4-One, Boyz II Men, N'SYNC, and BSB, there was the original boy band New Edition. They really started a new era of Urban Cool but Golly Gee music. NE Cooled It Now for an entire generation and for so many genres. Ronnie, Bobbie, Ricky, and Mike definitely did not slow it down. Neither did Ralph.

yomi williams #thatpart loves this Ralph when he still made them hard faces and had that cooler than cool way of combining popping and dancing ! Here he is at full confidence.. but when Bobby left.. he lost some of his “ness” He was still a great performer but his swag was forever off.. even tho they had success later on with Johnny. He and Johnny picked up the rights and currently split ownership of the new edition name and to the rest of the groups credit tho they have some kind of way abt this (Who wouldn’t?) they said the very least they could have done is to gift their longtime choreographer and manager Brook Payne have at least a third.. I think Ralph was amazing from day one.. I like that. Cos their choreography was always tight and we love that

How was the 80s?
@Williamsdoc
@Williamsdoc 2 ай бұрын
@@Abe4200 Life in the 80's had music that prompted social interaction without malice or envy. Our friendships and relationships were enhanced by lyrics in music that not only made us dance, but gave us a reason to live life more responsibly. The ultimate experience of being young and willing to learn about life became a theme in songs that reinforced responsible behavior

I was in 5th grade when this came out in 1984. Cosby show premiered also in 1984. Michael Jackson Thriller was on the top of the chart for so many weeks from 1983-1984. Lionel Richie's All NIght Long and Hello and Donna Summers Hard for the Money were displayed alot on the early days of Music Television. Whitney Houston arrived on the charts in 1985. All the kids were moon walking or break dancing and it wasn't considered rebellious nor counter culture. Stevie Wonder, Dionne Warwick, Kool in the Gang, Irene Cara, Tina Turner, Sade, Kool and the Gang, Prince, Pointer Sisters... list goes on and on. The image of Black America in the 80s portrayed in the media were generally positive. What happened?

Y angel Funny. I always thought Ronnie was the least attractive one until BBD days! Tell Me When Will I See You Smile Again video is when I started noticing he was getting better looking. He always looked like a bumble bee to me. His eyebrows threw me off in his younger days! HaHa! Ralph was always the cutest to begin, but I don't think he's aged as well as some of the others. I think you had a lot more freedom back in the 80s to just be yourself. You didn't have to act hard, you could just be you and that was fine. It was okay to smile. You didn't have to pretend to be a gang banger to be cool. A teenager could be a teenager and that was okay.

I remember the opposite. Get your ass handed to you if you didn't wear the right cloths and if you did have nice cloth especially sneakers, you better go to the store 6 deep or your walking barefoot on the walk home lol. Still the best times ever.

IMO looks-wise Johnny, Ricky, and Ronnie really lucked out getting portrayed by Luke James, Elijah Kelley, and Keith Powers. But yeah, agreed, casting like this is hard and they did a really good job.
