In this video a review the new indoor EG4 power pro wall mount budget battery. It’s a 14.3kwh battery with most the same features as the outdoor version. I also cover the new firmware for the EG4 batteries.

Hey, you're getting pretty good at this KZbin stuff! Great video as usual. I'm with you on being excited about the direction things seem to be going. I think there's going to be some good stuff coming down the pipeline this year. Definitely going to be some upgrades in my future. Looking at this setup, I can see a number of use cases for standalone setup in remote buildings, water well, etc., not to mention it would be a great way for anyone to get going with solar without breaking the bank. Thanks!

Exactly. While utility prices rise. Solar prices are dropping. And that’s not even taking into account the tax credit.

Great video, Gavin. Should there should be some sort of non-conductive material between the cells and the metal cover? Seems like it wouldn't be hard to bump the cover with something (especially in a garage installation) and making contact with the cells. Which wouldn't be good.

This is a helpful video, thank you! Figure 3 of the EG4 instructions show the wiring diagram to connect 3 batteries to one inverter. It uses the center battery to connect to inverter. Do you think it's ok to use one of the end batteries to run to the inverter? I cannot locate batteries directly under inverter so using the center battery will mean long cable runs.
@GavinStoneDIY

You’d have slightly more resistance to the final battery. Which is one reason why they recommend you connect them to a central point. Whether that will make a huge difference? It’s to say really. I would probably do it.

Hey Gavin. I like this new PowerPro budget model. I have a little buyers remorse with buying LLs , but I like having redundancy in the battery area. If I was to set up a system for my parents or a friend it would be a 6000XP and the budget PP battery. Very nice looking setup, easy to install, and a good sized system. Two thumbs up EG4. I'm confused about the firmware statements so I'll rewatch the video. Was this new battery firmware? What version? I've not updated either the battery or inverter firmware on my 2 month old setup, seems a little intimidating.
@GavinStoneDIY
@GavinStoneDIY 5 ай бұрын
It’s the newer version of firmware they released on the batteries about a month ago. They have a walkthrough guide on the firmware to tell you exactly how to upload it on to the batteries. The good news is you’ll only have to do it once.

I have a Victron system comprised of 2 multiplus II inverters in parallel and a charge controller, can I wire these directly to the bus bar and skip out on using the distributor? They’ll be fused of course, I just don’t see the point of having the distributor
@GavinStoneDIY
@GavinStoneDIY 5 ай бұрын
I would think so. The distributor helps for people that have different battery types amongst other things I guess. These would communicate directly with the Victron system.

What is the measurement from bottom of battery case to top and bottom of case to floor (e.g. length of feet)? Specs show a height of 36.4 in. Does that include the length of the feet?

@GavinStoneDIY

Yes. You could have as many as you like. But they are designed to hook 3 at a time to an inverter. Without using an extra busbar. If you follow the link, the manual will show different options for hooking them up. Honestly with one 6000 xp you could use the internal busbars and hook more then 3 at a time pretty easily.

Hey Gavin, Great video. Nearly answered all my questions about combining a rack of 6 Lifepower4 Batteries with the one Powerpro I received with my 18K upgrade from the 2 6500's. Do you know if the software will track both to the 18K? I know the Lifepowers can only handle max charge and discharge of 100 amps and the Powerpro is 200A. I was thinking of limiting the charge current to 120A over all of the batteries to protect the Lifepower4 and link them all via the powerpro busbar. Would also fuse the rack with a 200A fuse. Plan to talk to the Techs when I commision the system but would like so advice as I set it all up. Thanks
@GavinStoneDIY
@GavinStoneDIY 5 ай бұрын
So I don’t think there’s an official firmware out yet for combining the lifepowrs with the pro batteries. Not only is it different Ah rating but a different BMS. So at the moment I don’t think you you’d get the same closed loop readings I showed here. At least not with both types of batteries in it.

Thanks! I sent a similar question to the EG4 techs and see what they have to say. I have also considered purchasing a single 6000xp for the powerpro and running it as in as a generator to the 18K, but does the 18K have to deplete the rack battery 1st before it shifts to the 6000xp/Powerpro power, then finally to utility? So many questions. Thanks for your thoughts on it.@@GavinStoneDIY

@@dbarnclay There's a setting in the 6000XP for "Generator charge start battery SOC%". There's also an end battery SOC%. I'd guess the 18k has something similar. So just set it to whatever % you want it to trigger the 6000XP to start/end feeding the 18k.

The UL testing won’t allow these batteries to be placed closer than 3 feet. I would be surprised if any ahj allows that to happen with a permit.

@jasongoldenberg973
@jasongoldenberg973 5 ай бұрын
@GavinStoneDIY the UL requirement is 3 feet spacing. The manual can say whatever they want but it's not what any ahj will require. I just went through this in vegas. Also the batteries don't have a nema rating and only an ip rating which is not acceptable. Indoors those don't matter but outdoors they do.

@@jasongoldenberg973I know quite a few people that have these at 12” or less and passed inspection. I understand what you’re saying. I’m just pointing out that can vary quite a bit depending on your location.
