you know what could justify her healing off of every hit, if during phase one as the blade of miquella her hp is constantly going down because of scarlet rot and her second phase she would be completely immune from scarlet rot but can only heal the damage taken rally system style

Bosses that gradually regenerate HP are awful for a reason, and the same reason would make any boss that loses HP over time bad too. You don't want a boss that the player can beat without even attacking. Besides, it makes no sense lore-wise since the whole point of her wearing the gold prosthesis and needle is to protect her from that.

That's a really cool idea! I like breaking up Waterfowl to make it a more central part of the kit, but making each part less oppressive and gimmicky. This feels like a much more intentional, freeform fight.

You should either remove or significantly speed up her "jumping into the air and slamming the sword to the ground to create a small aoe atk" combo alltogether. It's way too easy to punish and does not fit her tier of a warrior as it is. It's basically free damage window when she goes for it. Something like this shouldn't be a part of the hardest boss in the game.

I personally find Vanilla Malenia to not be that difficult outside of her Waterfowl dance, so splitting the Waterfowl dance into the rest of her kit as was as the fact all her slow moves have been sped up and have different combinations will definitely make her a more properly challenging fight.

True. Melania in the main game is both too easy and too unfair. She really isn’t that hard, but it’s so dumb how one move (WF dance) can change everything. This version here, however, both looks fairer and harder at the same time. I mean if a random youtuber is able to create fair and engaging bosses, then why can’t Fromsoft do it? Complaining about Melania really isn’t about skill issue because she’s hard in the worst ways. I think darkeater Midir is harder than Melania, but he’s also fairer and doesn’t have a broken move and inconsistent staggers. At least ER removed runbacks, but it’s still disappointing how the bosses regressed.

I wish souls games in general would let you properly outrange small bosses like Melania. It would be excellent to give pike and pole arm type weapons a charge stop ability like the long spear in chivalry II. It would create interesting dynamics where the players could force the boss to react to their actions instead of the other way around, leveraging superior range to prevent them from closing the gap like how large animals were taken down with lunged spears. I'm glad to see that you made her much more dynamic where you can legitimately whittle her down using superior range and power. Also the change up on waterfowl dance is very welcome.

tbh i love the second phase, literally perfect... my only issue is that first phase looks like it has 4-5 moves in random rotation which gets super repetitive, and by the time it hit 5 mins into the showcase, i could even predict which move she was going to do and got bored. Which kinda sucks because at the start i was actively engaged because the flow was amazing, but the repetition dulled that feeling cause i wanted to see some crazy moves like a roll attack, or cancelling previous known combos into another combo like in the second phase, when she got low in the first phase to catch the player off guard.

Is it just patches and updates that i will end up paying for? Looking forward for Radahn new boss fight, the original was spectacular and amazing, but Ngl it was easy and Radahn has many scripted attacks that made wide open. Not going to forget the meteor attack of course, a devastating attack but very easy to dodge

In general this looks like the best piece of work done for the mod yet, but some of the clones seem way overboard, especially for scarlet aeonia, which seems completely unpunishable now. Creating downtime is fine, if you can punish it after, but if not, then it is just annoying and creates massive variance. That is the biggest issue with Radagon phase 2, as he can create massive downtime that is never punishable. Slowing your damage output on him to a crawl.

Yeah Aeonia is not punishable anymore. But to make up for it I created a "fake aeonia" that's just a greatly sped up Aeonia with no flower AoE. Idea was to have an oasis in the middle of the insanity that is phase 2. So you can just dodge that and get a 4 l1 punish. I think that makes up for Aeonia. Also her slam being strafeable now creates extra punish windows, so I guess I ended up moving the punish windows around a bit. Also I might've made Aeonia completely interruptable with a well timed hit to smack her out of it mid-air. 😅

Mmmh, not sure I like that. Again, I don't like variance and having too many unpunishable moves and moves that are freely punishable makes it kinda random. I would prefer a tough aeonia that is also punishable, instead of two versions that are either free or unpunishable. Also making moves interruptable that previoulsy weren't is kinda weird, as most people won't know and won't try. I guess it is a somewhat superficial issue, but you still have to think about it.@@mihairus6353

I think the easy solution to this would be to make a guaranteed follow-up to Aeonia. So you can rush in after the clones and maybe get a jumping attack. That is, the obvious solution besides sacking the clones, of course.

Hi Garden, since you've remade Malenia, please also remake Godfrey too. My ideas for a better Godfrey: - Regal Roar's stomp (phase 1.5 beginning) deals high damage to everything around him, instead of just sending a shockwave. So the player must stay away afap from him when he lifts his axe up - When phase 2 begin, he immediately fights in his Rage (phase 2.5) - When his HP is down to 0, we enter phase 3. He regains his grace, and fights much more aggressively, and his recovery time after failed attacks is reduced. He can also use Holy, Lightning and Fire attack (from the Storm Lord and Fire Giants that he defeated) - When phase 3 begin, he smashs the ground with both hand (just like phase 2.5 beginning), shattering all the walls in the arena, turning it into a giant rubble - He also has 2 fighting style: barehanded and with axe. He may toss his axe toward you (like the Axe Toss move in phase 1), but he chases after you attempting for a slam attack, starting to fight barehanded - He can take his axe back via Earthshaker, but he instead jumps straight to his axe and pick it up - When using his axe his phase 3, he handles it with one hand. He can create holy shield (like Ordovis), fire flame projectile (like Fire Giant) and summon Thunder (like the dragons) with his other hand (Some people would say that the version of Godfrey we fight in game is the strongest, but I don't think so. Logically, spending all that time outside The Land Between, he'd be much weaker instead of stronger, due to the lack of worthy enemies: no dragons, no giants, no gods, just Tarnished people who are not even half his size. Furthermore, the person who said that Godfrey would become stronger in the Badlands is Marika, and we all know that she's but a liar. Even her dog/shadow started doubting her)

One of my major gripes with her original design is that her attacks heal her even if you fully blocked her attack and took zero chip damage, which makes no sense at all and is just bad design, it makes mandatory that you completely change your fighting style and your entire build even though they might have worked perfectly fine for 99% of the game, which is ridiculous.

Very interesting. I gotta say, just seeing her be more aggressive seems like a massive step up from vanilla Melania. Vanilla Melania is unfortunately very weak design wise. She’s WAY more passive than she has any reason to be, and her moveset is incredibly generic and limited. The only thing saving phase 1 Melania from being the worst boss in the game was waterfowl dance, which is the funnest part of fighting her. Her phase 2 was a big step up, greatly improving her moveset and giving her a LOT more variety, but phase 1 is incredibly, mind numbing boring once that sense of intimidation and great challenge wears off. That said, I imagine there will still need to be a lot of tweaking done to this boss, but it seems promising so far. As long as the boss is reasonably fair, I think it’s be a massive step up from vanilla Melania.

Limited? Malenia has the most animations, combo variants and animation blending out of any boss FromSoft has ever created. I don't know about generic either. I guess on the surface it consists of only slashes and thrusts, but that is the only option avaiable to an enemy with a sword. On a deeper level her animations are very fluid, dance like, not generic at all. I don't know if we fought the same boss. Her phase 1 is passive sometimes yes. Phase 2 is probably the most aggressive boss phase we have ever seen in a souls game not including bloodborne. I honestly don't see where you are coming from at all.

I would say she isn't well designed but that certainly is not because of her having limited moves or aggression. The issue is with nonsensical stagger immunity and a deeply unbalanced moveset due to waterfowl and the kagebunshin no jutsu. Edit: Also the slopes in her arena make her way less consistent than she should be.

@tinminator8905 Well, we do have very different opinions. Compared to all of the other shardbearers I would say Melania has not only the smallest moveset, but the least creative. If you compare her movesets and flow charts to other shardbearers, it’s not even close. Waterfowl dance is legitimately super fun to dodge once you learn how, and is the best part of fighting Melania. Waterfowl is also consistently avoidable, even without the circling method. You watch out for the animation and when you see her do it, you turn tail and outspace the first flurry, then you roll through or outspace the second, then run through the third. The only problem I have with it is the hyperarmor frames on the startup encourages you to play more passive, since you don’t wanna do a jumping R2 right as she starts it up and be fucked (though you can probably tank some chip from it anyways and live perfectly fine.) Which would be fine, except she’s incredibly passive and letting her only come to you artificially lengthens the fight. As for Melania’s phase 2, your actually 100% right, she is a lot more aggressive and I straight up forgot to mention that. The fact she gains a lot of new moves and her increased aggression makes phase 2 actually enjoyable. And your also right about her inconsistent hyper armor frames and loads of jank. Melania’s inconsistent hyperarmor frames, dead angling her combos, and swinging at the literal air if your just far enough in front of her. For me the thing that kills the enjoyment of the fight is her limited moveset and overall passivity. It’s strange because I used to love Melania, and I looked forwards to fighting her every playthrough. Once the feeling of difficulty and the satisfaction of winning gets old, Melania phase 1 becomes a really tedious grind to get through.

What do you mean, we have different opinions on this? Her having the most combo variations and animation blending out of any fromsoft boss ever is just a fact. Have you ever tried stringing her animations together in anim studio or checked her AI scripts? Even intuitively it is just obvious if you fought the boss for more than an hour. The other shardbearers are: Rykard who in reality has no actual combo variations, other than a few in phase 2. Radahn who has quite simple combo variations. Godrick who has very simple combo variations. Mogh who has slightly more complicated variations, but still nothing overwhelming. Morgott wo does actually have a highly complicated moveset, but not quite as in depth as Malenia. Malenia, who just has the most expansive combo variations. Edit: I forgot about Rennala, who actually just doesn't have any combo variations at all. You have just as big of a clue about this sort of stuff as you have about what her name is. @@FiveHoursLater815
