Nice to see someone fixing something with what they have, it’ll do what you want it to do. In Wisconsin that donor truck would be a sought after unit, no rust by Wisconsin standards. I swapped a Buick 350 in to a 71 C60 because it was what I had. Lots of torque, smaller bore and longer stroke than the original 366 big block which was in it.

The flexplate breaking like that is actually rather common on Chevys. You can change them without pulling the engine or even completely pulling the transmission. Detach driveshaft (s), and all bell housing bolts and install two long bolts so the trans can be slid backwards a few inches. Support trans with s jack and remove transmission cross member bolts. Now you can remove the torque converter bolts. Just use caution, at this point, the flexplate may actually fall out when the torque converter bolts are removed or the trans is pulled back. Make sure your not under it. Ask me how I know... Not too bad a job, if you can avoid a trip to the hospital...
