New era for Nalanda University: PM Modi inaugurates campus in Bihar

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new campus of Nalanda University at Rajgir, Bihar. The University is conceived as a joint collaboration between India and East Asia Summit(EAS) countries.

The Campus has two Academic Blocks with 40 Classrooms having a total seating capacity of around 1900. It has two auditoriums having a capacity of 300 seats each. It has a student hostel with a capacity of around 550 students. It also has various other facilities including International Centre, Amphitheatre that can accommodate up to 2000 individuals, Faculty Club and Sports Complex among others.
The Campus is a ‘Net Zero’ Green Campus. It is Self-Sustainable with solar plant, domestic and drinking water treatment plant, water recycling plant for reusing wastewater, 100 acres of water bodies, and many other environment friendly facilities.
The University has a deep connection with history. The original Nalanda University, established around 1600 years ago, is considered to be amongst the first residential universities of the world. In 2016, the ruins of Nalanda was declared as a UN Heritage Site.

*How was Nalanda University:* The center had eight separate compounds, 10 temples, meditation halls, classrooms, lakes and parks. It had a nine-storey library where monks meticulously copied books and documents so that individual scholars could have their own collections. The great library of Nalanda University was so vast that it is reported to have housed more than 9 million manuscripts. According to traditional Tibetan sources, the library at Nalanda University was spread over three large multi-storeyed buildings. One of these buildings had nine storeys that housed the most sacred manuscripts. The library burned for three months after the invaders set fire to the buildings. The Muslim invaders ransacked and destroyed the monasteries and drove the monks from the site.

I hope that Nalanda University will cover all kind of subject be it Liberal Arts, Fine Arts, Science, Engineering, Medicine, Law, Economics or Commerce. I think it will be more suitable to develop NALANDA as an institution focused on PG & Research Programs to fully utilize it's infrastructure. Indian-Govt should consider to create more campuses of South Asian University in India in different Cities like Mumbai, Banglore, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad etc to boost Scholastic Exchange & India's influence on the Academic Experts of South Asia.
