I seem to recall they asked me De coursey to do the Royal variety show and some of his jokes were not so well received. He seemed to disappear from British TV after that.

Hmm, does the ventriloquism okay but his puppetry is atrocious... you cant pronounce a single sylable word with four or five sylables from the puppet, it looks terrible

You had to be there.... He played on that fact, often removing the bear's head completely from it's body. I saw him live, a few years later playing to a VERY adult audience! Both he and the bear seemed completely 'plastered'. The clue's in the name 'Nookie' (UK slang for 'sex')!

@@sfcpres Kinda out of context with such a short clip huh? I'll admit I'd never heard of the guy, I just found a Nookie on 'a popular online auction site' for fiteen quid and wondered if the eyes moved so I looked for a video. Didnt expect them to cross, I have to say.

That's kind of the point. Tommy Cooper was an atrocious magician, but still one of the funniest people I've ever seen. Being crap was the joke. We all take ourselves far too seriously these days.

@@MrJacksonBollock Tommy was a good illusionist, you have to be able to do a trick well in order to deliberately mess it up but still have it work. Plus, with him it was more than half in the delivery. I miss Tommy... gonna watch a few hours of his stuff now. Great name by the way !
