I love this feature - what I'd like to see is TR taking into account the training load from my strength training/gym work. Know it won't be perfect, but would be an awesome extension of this feature.

The problem is that it’s hard to quantify numerically the load resistance training puts on us. So far I’ve been just going off making sure I get a light day after gym sessions….

I just add in my strength workouts and an tss (lots of calculators online for tss strength training estimations). This TSS is taken into account for red light green light

Training Peaks does this using an hTSS metric. Not perfect, but quantifies it a bit.

@@87togabitobtwb calculates the physical load for any exercise which is a good starting point but it tends to score ministerial work higher than eg one rep max weightlifting. physical work indeed would be higher but strain on body might this not fully be captured

A few years ago I tried stacking a mid volume TR plan with a TTT Zwift race 1x/week. I was the weakest rider on the team so it was pretty much max effort for about an hour just to hang on. After about 8 weeks I had a complete melt down, to the point where I just didn't ride indoors for a few months. When RL/GL came out, I knew I wanted to scroll back to that time to see what it looked like and sure enough, it was almost a solid block of yellow and red.

I'm loving RLGL. I've been using it for about a month now with early access, and it's already changed how I train. For example, I didn't realize how much of a toll 5-hour endurance rides were having until I got a red day and a yellow day after this kind of ride a few days in a row. I realized I hadn't worked up to that level of ride yet and started distributing the load across more days of the week. Feeling much better now and fewer days where I'm close to burnout.

RL/GL is legit. I started overtraining with my TR plan plus extra rides before I joined the early access for RL/GL and I was getting burned out. I jumped into the early access and RL/GL saved my bacon. Well done TR team.

Big fan. here and think the red light green light addition is a awesome tool .I’ve only been using that part of it for a week now and my goal is to raise on Green Day’s.my question is . when you put a race day on the calendar but you’re not in the training program (I mostly use train now )does the AI detect you have a race coming up ?for example two days before a race it may be a yellow day for me is it taking into consideration I have two days until the race when it’s making its recommendations

I've been using train now and picking my own workouts. When this hit, my calendar went about equal parts red and white and the rest in yellow. I have a hard time not picking the harder workouts so I expect this to help a lot. wytwolf

So, if I'm understanding this correctly, my status isn't based on what I've done vs what is in my plan, but what I've been doing lately vs what I have done before (and I assume weighted towards what I've done recently) and what I've shown that I'm capable of doing without burning out? I ask this because as is often recommended, I've chosen a mid volume plan with the intent to add more zone 2 hours in addition to the plan (replacing some of my 1 hour endurance rides with 3 hour endurance rides outdoors) rather than choosing a high volume plan. Given that I'll be doing more volume, and TSS, than my plan in trainer road, (but sticking to the 2 to 3 days of intensity, and doing those workouts mostly on the trainer, at least the shorter ones) I assume that if I ramp up this extra volume above the plan in a slow steady manner, red light green light will adapt to that and see that I've been managing that volume okay (assuming that I am) and not hit me with a lot of yellow and red days? I've had a bit of time off of structured training in recent months, but have been on a plan for 8 weeks now (and generally going well), and the structure of the plan has me doing 90 minutes of intervals (usually threshold) on Saturdays and 2 hours of endurance on Sundays. But often after the Saturday workout, Sunday goes yellow, and an adaptation is proposed in terms of a reduction in volume or intensity or both. Having these two longest rides on the weekend is what suits my life best off the bike, and especially during base phase I don't want to reduce my big endurance ride each week, and so while I have sometimes reduced intensity, I've always kept the volume. As I have a rest day to follow, this has been alright. Is this something where over time it will see that it's worked out okay for me to do this, and not always flag those Sundays as yellow (unless saturday was harder than usual or I brought more fatigue into it than I usually would) or is this interaction already working exactly as designed, where it's essentially you guys saying "hey heads up if you train today you're gonna need some extra rest" and I'm saying "yeah I know it's cool tomorrow is a day off" and choosing to take on that extra fatigue because I know I'll get the chance to rest afterward? And, finally, this one is just out of curiosity, but does it differentiate between different types of training load over time? Like will it determine over time if I need more recovery after an average threshold workout than an aneorobic one, for example? (or vice versa?)

I might have to take a look at this! I am mainly a strength athlete, so it has always been a struggle layering endurance work on top of it. If this allows for some autoregulation, I welcome it. If we have any implementation questions, where should we reach out to?

I think this is enough of an improvement to make me give trainer road a hard look. Garmin app’s warnings of overreach and recovery time recommendations have been pretty fair, if a little coarse and/or a lagging indicator. Question is how good is this without a power meter ? (No power meter on track bike) Is heart rate end speed good enough data on an occasional basis?

OK so now I see why I wasn't advancing because I was doing too much. But this makes it so hard when I'm trying to balance increasing fitness with increasing skills. Weekdays I do structured training rides so I can go ride the MTB on Sunday to get those skills but by then I'm in the yellow zone. We earn our downs at my local. I guess the answer is to lower weekday training volume?

I've had this feature on since available. I think it's pretty conservative in that from experience, I've experienced being able to train "harder" than it suggest within reason. Also, It doesn't take into account if you have one or two days off after a yellow day or red day. I appreciate it and will track it with how I feel. As with all things I'm taking it with a grain of salt.

Keep in mind the additional option to adjust the "Training Approach" in tandem with RLGL. Default is Balanced, but you may benefit from moving to Aggressive of the one setting between Balanced and Aggressive. The setting is found in the Account > Adaptive Training section in your TR website portal.

As I understand it if it shows nothing you are good to go with the workouts as planned. A "green" day does not display any color.

How do I use Red Light Green Light with a Master's program, or should I skip the Master's program? I'm 57 and a lifelong rider, multi-year TR user...I turned off the Master's program because it felt too easy. My FTP was dropping below what it was last year without the Master's program.

It's the exact same--RLGL works regardless of what plan you have. And good on you for being able to up the intensity! I'm also in a Master's plan, and tweak whether to add sweet spot or endurance days depending on my time availability and now RLGL.
