Very nice truck. I'm gonna add 2 things that you didn't mention that need to be pointed out to people. I know you used to drive semis and thus probably still have your class A CDL. And I completely agree with you in that every truck should be equipped to tow. Having said that, your truck may be de-rated to 26k to stay under CDL, however, the INSTANT you put a trailer on the back of that truck, your combined weight requires you to have a CDL. AND, towing any trailer with that truck will require you to not only have a CDL, but it has to be a CLASS A CDL. Secondly, the pass through body locks (hot locks as you call them) are a DOT requirement. Without them, you have to either chain or strap both sides of your cans down, or it is the equivalent of an unsecured load and is an OOS violation.

A very nice truck, I've drove roll off and lugger trucks but never hook lift. It sounds like you did a lot to truck at building stage. Only thing I'd think be nicer is paint cab same blue, nice color. My guess is the price of painting is why you left it white. Well done.

Thanks for watching. We actually leave the cabs white, not because of the price to paint, but rather for resale a few seasons down the road. Drive safely out there.

Thanks for all the good, imfo. I am trying to talk my boss into buying a truck like you are showing in this vid, but not for garbage but for several other uses. Do you know who sells other rolloff platforms like rolloff water bodies, fuel cells, flatbeds, or custom rolloff bodies? Thanks for your time.

I know you said not to go with 36 hook but the local building only put 36 on the 5500 trucks he says you want have a problem seeing the 36 hook in that size truck just the bigger trucks is that true are is he lying to make a sale ? Thank you for the help
@samedaydumpster
@samedaydumpster 6 ай бұрын
I wouldn't go as far as calling anyone a "liar,"... but let's break this down. Yes... they are going to try and sell you whatever they have in stock and on the ground ready to go, they are salesmen and a business after all. Lets say you buy this Ram 5500 with a 36" hook, now you start buying or building dumpsters, they to0 are also now 36". A year or two down the road business is good for you and you decide to step up into a larger truck to handle your work load. You buy the new truck and now all your cans are 36". So you need to retool all your cans, or sale them because your new bigger truck will have a 54" hook almost 100% guaranteed. That's just one example, I could give you 8 or 9 other examples just like this. I personally, wouldn't buy a 36" hook, you will regret it down the road. That's my 2 cents Jesse. But I genuinely appreciate you checking out the channel and supporting it. Thank You brother.

John you’ve built the most beautiful truck I’ve seen in a long time, and it’s an everyday workhorse! Appears well thought out for longevity and comfort. Next video let us know your wheel base and rear of cab to axel measurements, along with the base weight. Also the Can length range of your T22 and different empty weights so we understand the legal capacity of your beauty. It’s something to strive for in my future. What a beauty! I really appreciate your work/time of every video/podcast you send out. I’ve learned a lot. Keith 🇺🇸😎

I very much struggle to understand why the heck you would do this. Derating a class 7 to class 6 means all that extra weight counts against your payload capacity so you haul as much as a class 5 now.

Beautiful truck! I’m looking to buy one very soon ! I don’t have a huge budget . Would you recommend this truck or your duramax for my starter company . If you are moving into a hooklift truck for the first time, I would recommend purchasing a Chevrolet 6500 before stepping up to a truck like this. Learn the hooklift game on a smaller, little bit simpler platform. There's a lot to be said about starting small and learning the game there first. That's how I did it, and It's how I still recommend anyone else do it. Thanks for watching. Best of luck brother.

We use this truck for the smaller jobs still. But if I have a contractor really getting after it... I use the 6500 because of the larger legal payload. You are correct. Thanks for the support of the channel.

Any reason you didn’t go with the rolliskate bracket for the skates? Thinking about pulling the trigger this week on some rolliskates. Hopefully you’ve had good luck with them. I’m guessing you run the light duty skates? As always, much appreciated Thanks John!

Buy the medium Cody. The light duty will fall apart with the concrete work you do. Also, but the white ones for all the concrete driveways you service. As far as the bracket, I just feel it’s a cleaner look inside the toolbox for me. Also, with the addition of both those boxes, I kinda used up most my frame space.

I can't remember if it's been covered or not, but are you running all your cans the same length or a mixture? I know some of the 19K-25K rated trucks are usually set up for 10-14' cans, while some of the 26Ks trucks are able to run up to 16' cans. I'm making final purchasing decisions now and can opt for a 14' or 16' GN trailer. from Couger I want to be forward thinking but I also don't want to unnecessarily burden myself with backing into tight spaces by choosing 16' over 14' thinking ahead but not being able to put it places that a 14' trailer could go that the 16' can't.
@samedaydumpster
@samedaydumpster 8 ай бұрын
I run a mixture Chase. I have as short as 12' cans, and as long as 17'10" cans that I run on this Peterbilt. Hope this helps brother. Excited for your new setup this year.
@HighSpeedChase762
@HighSpeedChase762 8 ай бұрын
@@samedaydumpster Thanks, John! My purchasing decision right now is between a 14' Couger GN trailer with 8K axles and a 17.5K winch for 12-14' cans, or a 16' Couger GN trailer with 10K axles and a 22K winch for 16' cans. I think I want to go 16' because it's more robust and 16' cans can have similar volume with lower wall height or more volume at same wall height. I know they would be tall but it's my understanding that 25 & 30 cy cans can be had at 16' as well. Forward-thinking, the 16's will be better suited to pair with a Palfinger T22 one day but my concern is the additional difficulty of backing the 16' in tight drop zones vs the 14' based on the added length and articulation. Care to weigh in?
