My father and I restored a 1958 mahogany Knarr in the 1970's. Beautiful boat! Sadly, after 2 years of sailing her, a tree fell on the Knarr, in the boatyard. She sits on the bottom of Lake Ontario now. I am so happy you are saving this one!

I have been in the boating industry in the USA my whole life, love to see the rebuild of an old wooden boat. I was extremely disappointed to see you using Stainless Steel fasteners in this boat, more importantly Stainless Steel sheet metal screws. Given the age of this boat I have to assume it was originally fastened with silicone bronze wood screws or copper rivets ?

Originally the planking was fastened with brass screws over the waterline, and steel( not stainless) below the waterline. This caused a lot of damage when they rusted. I had to replace 60 ribs. I'd like to use bronze screws and bolts all over, but it's too expencive. So I use Stainless A4/ 316 screws and bolts throughout the hole boat. And I can by them at the local store.
