Outstanding! You forgot to mention that when you trim the seedlings back to 5 inches, you should use all of the trimmed onion tops as chives on baked potatoes, or any other recipe that calls for chives. I would also trim back some of the tops of the harvested onions and use those for green onions.

Great video and info... I really appreciate the DATES of different stages. Questions: is it true onion seeds don't store well so you have to buy them every year? But have you tried saving your own seeds? When harvesting, I gather you don't wash them, but keep them as dry as possible, but what if during the time you are going to harvest, you get several rainy days, what would you do? Do you grow onions in that spot year after year, and don't change the location? What do you do with that lot after you harvest the onions? Thank you for the tips... I am going to try to incorporate them in my yard. If you like you can answer these questions in the LIVE on Saturday.

Howdy, howdy from Tennessee.! I simply cannot hear this enough. I have close to 100 seedlings up about 2" that have just sprouted. I mixed our own seedling mix this season, and used heating mat and are still under lights. Your timing is perfect. My personal failure has always been onions. Much appreciation for you documenting your journey, and will try your board method this year. I am guilty of planting to deep. Tray 2 will get started later this week... feeling a bit more confident. Thanks my friend.

Also, in another video you said not to spray plants when the sun is out. I have a fertilizer mixture of Grass Fertilizer, Fish fertilizer, calcium and chicken 'stew' that I'm spraying my onions with. Can I do that during the day? Or do I still need to do that while the sun is down. Early AM or late PM?

I grow Cortlands and Ailsa Craig (long day) in central NYS, in milk jugs under lights. They sure are easy to transplant; I jab a trowel in the soil around 6 inches. Really stay on top of watering and weed pulling. I harvest when tops have mostly died down, dry outside a few days in October, have lots of very firm Cortlands still. Great video. Gonna try your taters in bags, or boxes.
