I absolutely need a record of everywhere I have been, and I need Google to store all of this for me, on their servers, because I need to be able to see this info from anywhere, at any time, from any computer. Like if I am at a hotel or library and there is a public computer there, I need to be able to log on to Google on that public computer and see my Google Maps Timeline History. How do I do this with the recent changes?
@GeeksOnTour2 ай бұрын
The way I understand it, After this change, you will not be able to see your Google Location History on any device or web browser other than the phone where it is set up - period. You would need to find some other App or Service. When I google for alternatives to Timeline, I see Mileagewise and LifeCycle as possibilities.

Same here I use it for my clock in and clock out on a jobsite for my workorders. Way easier than having to write it down. Worked great. I hate looking at stuff on my phone. Timeline was soooo much faster on the computer and easier to navigate.

What if I am going to upgrade my phone. Once I back up my data would I still be able to use timeline feature on that new phone?.

Good question. I think the answer is Yes, as long as you are before the deadline and you have not followed the instructions to move it to device.

Hi it was very intresting. I want to know if i allready set my google map app at my mobile and now i cant see my timeline at my computer browser is there any option to see the timeline at the pc browser?
@GeeksOnTour2 ай бұрын
I don't think so. My understanding is that this is a permanent change. Going forward Timeline will only be available on mobile apps. I guess you could install an Android emulator or something, but I have no experience with that.

hi.... thx for info... but my problem is my Samsung tablet used to show my daily timeline in maps. I could go back for months/years for a specific day and view my trips and visits. Recently, I clicked in maps and then into timeline and it says "Maps is offline... check interest connection". My internet is on. I leave my tablet at home, but that was never a problem as my cell phone is a Samsung android 5G. there was sometimes a delay in showing my timeline in the past, but now it's not coming up on the tablet. ( Note: I purposely kept it home so the kids would see my location in case of an emergency. ). Did google change something or did I accidentally change some settings on my phone so it doesn't share to my other device.

I followed the steps to set up the new timeline. There was a glitch that all of my timeline were not successfully downloaded to my phone. I think my whole timeline just got wiped instead. It seems the failure happened to quite an amount of users. So just be careful when you proceed. The data migration is not guaranteed. make sure you have a good internet connection.

Good to know, thanks. I guess good advice would be to use takeout to back up timeline data first.

same goes to me... now only onward august 2024... all the data from 2015 are gone.... google should be make the transition easier. example, when user opt to device based timeline, the web just stop at the date when they opt to device. to see new timeline, just open your device. our old data can be access back using web timeline....

Thanks for the video liked and subscribed. Is there a way to transfer my history to someone else? THanks

Not that I know of. You can backup the data using Takeout.google.com, but I don't know if there is a way to re-upload it somewhere.

I lost my timeline after I changed my phone today, how do I restore it? Still able to see it on my previous phone. It had my travel history/journey for the last 8 years in Australia. Came as a backpacker and now a permanent resident. Had to live in some rural areas 😭
@GeeksOnTour2 ай бұрын
You should be able to back it up using your old phone (maps, timeline, tap cloud top right) then import to new phone.
@GeeksOnTour2 ай бұрын
If you still have web access you should back up using takeout too)

@@GeeksOnTour I tried last night, but couldn't find import option. Only delete.

What happened to me when i did the steps is it took away the your itenerary in the trips tab, the highlights and how much you walked, drove etc in the insights tab and all the tabs in the visited from your location history now say none yet when i click on it it shows most of my stuff but certian routes say moving or driving and 0 ft. I especially loved the desktop version and they killed that feature off and it is surely upsetting a lot of people who enjoyed it and it was the easiest way to add certian places you remember being to when you were younger and my mom's old google account timeline goes back to July 19 2013!

I wonder if there will be an alternative to Timeline on the web from some other company. I moved my data into my phone and now I can no longer use Timeline on the web. I should have waited. I miss it so.

I don't know but makes me think they want to save money expenses on their servers, they don't really care about our privacy.
