The very early reports out of China suggested that it could cause 6% mortality. At that rate the initial week lockdown could be justified. But we knew even before that 2 weeks was up that it was *nowhere* near that bad and that the average age of those dying *with* covid was higher than the average life expectancy. Two things scared me the most during the pandemic and neither of them had anything to do with COVID 19. Firstly, it was how those in charge (medical, police and politicians) seemed to enjoy the power. Some of them could barely contain their smugness and belief in themselves. I remember watching Victorian Police breaking up a demonstration and noted just how much energy they put into it. I thought some of them were enjoying themselves just a little too much, let alone the 'Chief Medical Officers' lecturing us all as if we were children. The second thing was just how quickly we were all hung out to dry by our own medical carers. It was as if they simply left their brains in a fridge somewhere. I remember having a conversation with my GP about the fact that the virus source was tracked down quite easily and very early on by several independent researchers to the lab at Wuhan and his look of utter disdain left me gobsmacked. He didn't want to know. Then there was the constant interference from politicians in deciding what treatment was acceptable and what was not and actually threatening doctors with de-registration if they used a drug that had been shown to have almost no side effects for years and years, with many millions of doses prescribed world wide, suddenly being deemed dangerous by politicians even though, for some patients it had been effective (Ivermectin)! I expected outrage on the part of medical associations and doctors along with a hard push back on politicians dictating treatment regimes, but no, they all stood there silent and useless, like empty bottles of beer at a party. Never again will I trust a politician or a doctor. I will do my own research every time I am prescribed something before I decide to take it or not. And don't get me started on what happened to our poor children! Grrr....!!!!

I agree with your first paragraph. I think most GPs are worth defending. The doctors had no data. Side effects were forbidden. They had nothing to work with but the evidence of their eyes. I live in an isolated place that was never going to see covid before the end of '21. Sensibly, people delayed vaccination pending more info on how the virus evolved, and on the vaccines themselves. The level of bullying of doctors by SA Health to get vaccination numbers up was obscene. Those people still hold power in Health. They are your targets - not the GPs.

Many people will have known people who refused COVID vaccination, caught COVID and got through it perfectly OK. I suffered a stroke 11 days after my third shot (Moderna). The neurologist could find no risk factors (fit, healthy, non-smoker etc) but when I asked if the vax might have anything to do with it his reaction was odd. Whereas he had been very chatty and happy to explain what had happened to me up to that question, he suddenly froze, went "Hmmmmm" then quickly walked away.

My mother in law's death certificate in 2022 stated that she died of covid 19. She died with covid not because of it. She was lying prone in a vegetative state for 2 years and finally died of heart failure due to old age (she was 94) but her death would have bolstered the death by covid statistics.

Most of our group , mainly over 70 kept to our habit of going to the beach every morning and having the morning swim and chat .. Sometimes we had to hide in the park or stay a little apart and pretend to isolate . Basically I know of no one of the group who got sick , some just very minor . Admittedly this was in NSW where the government after early strictures , relaxed . On the other hand we did not travel so nobody brought the usual flues , colds back from their overseas trips , so that may have helped .

Here in NZ I was all for locking down and wearing masks in march 2020. I couldn't believe how lackadaisical people were. Then we had our first case, a kid caught it from his Dad who worked in airport logistics. That immediately caused me to hit the brakes and reappraise the situation. How on earth could the carrier, the airport employee, be unaffected? Added to which, the sick kid was only mildly affected! So began my wakeup to what a scam was going on. We need to look at the use of media, or misuse, to craft public opinion. The use by governments of psychological fear tactics to coerce populations into irrational thinking. Also to question: Why we all flipped on the Nuremberg agreement signed by 192 countries in 1947? Why established practices were abandoned, such as isolating the vulnerable and not the opposite? Why were ivermectin and hydroxychloroquine banned from use when they had a history of symptomatic relief for covid ( influenza ) cases? There are still people here trying to get their jobs back after refusing to go along with all the codswallop.

I would say the long term effects of the lock downs on children will be minimal in the grand scheme of things. The lesson is that it was just stupid. I dare say burying the nuggets of truth is a big part of why the report is so big. Makes one wonder how big it have to be if it actually done as it should of on the entire country. But just to add one point much so what was known about the virus though constantly emerging, Australia in particular as well as some other countries had a wealth of data from countries that has been through the first wave. It was already obvious it affected the elderly, particularly with comorbidities. the report, in its huge gap about state govt behaviours, also says nothing about the policing. Just like other authorities the appalling behaviour of police during the COVID era has damaged community trust in the police (once called the police service). Provoking an immune system response has been demonstrated to be a sound preventative option I believe, done correctly. I argued that if anyone HAD to be locked-down, it should only be the elderly (those at risk of death), and let the rest of us continue to keep the country going.
