The first theme is the classic Black and Orange. I started with a cheese quesadilla, but to give it that Halloween orange flair, I used sun-dried tomato and basil tortilla. Using a pumpkin-shaped cookie cutter, I created a spooky jack-o'-lantern shape. Then, I added detail with a black edible ink marker. Sticking to the theme, I included black olives. Unfortunately, my attempt to create a face on an orange bell pepper didn't go as planned, but we'll call it a learning experience. For a fruity touch, I added blackberries. And, of course, Halloween Oreos were the perfect treat. To up the festivity, I included a skeleton hand and a pumpkin food pick, along with a black and orange napkin.
Moving on to our second Halloween theme, Spiders. I used spider web parchment paper as a backdrop and kept it easy with an uncrustable sandwich. To create realistic spider legs, I used regular pretzels instead of pretzel sticks. Using an edible ink marker, I drew eyes on the spiders. These markers are perfect for holiday-themed lunches all year round. For veggies, I added baby cucumbers with Halloween spider rings from the dollar store. Grapes completed the fruit section. As a treat, my child enjoyed a mini brownie bite, complemented by a spider napkin.
Now, theme number three: Bats. I flattened the top bread of the sandwich, then used a bat cutout and an edible ink marker to create adorable bat shapes on the bread. Salami and cheese filled the sandwich. Apples and broccoli made up the fruit and veggie components, adorned with bat rings. I also found bats with water inside, originally for freezing and adding to drinks, but I used them for decoration. Sour bats and 3D bat stickers added extra flair to this bat-themed lunchbox.
For our fourth lunchbox, we're going with a Witch theme, inspired by black, orange, purple, and green. I made purple butter noodles using natural vegetable juice and spices for color. To complete the theme, I added peas and carrots to the noodles. Garlic toast with a witch hat cutout accompanied the main dish. A witch's cauldron held cucumber slices, and an edible eyeball brought an element of fun. Orange goldfish and purple and orange sour patch kids provided a tasty twist. A Halloween napkin tied it all together.
Our fifth and final lunchbox is the Ghost theme. We're doing breakfast for lunch, starting with ghost-shaped pancakes. Don't worry; I'm not wasting any food-I'm using the scraps as strips. Ghost faces were drawn with an edible ink marker on string cheese. On the side, I included strawberries and Pirate's Booty. The treat was ghost edition Dots candy with a mystery flavor. And, of course, a ghost napkin for added spookiness.
