Very well edited. Best level of detail I have seen on headliner and roof install. Great project.

Wow, awesome work. You can pick up a relatively cheap paint spray gun and a spray booth is not necessary, but it looks like your paint job turned out great. She's coming together!

Thanks for watching. Next task is to install the jump seats. The roll bar covers the factory mount points, so I'll need to improvise something. Not sure what that will be.

Question - what Caulking do you use on the top gutter prior to painting? I need to sand, fix some holes and paint mine as well - thanks

I used a paintable silicone caulk such as GE Silicone 2+

You are doing a great job, I started to tackle my damaged top, What size rivets did you use to reattach the top to the frame?
@mikerestoresanfj4069

I used a 1/8 inch diameter, 1/4 inch reach, large head aluminum rivet with an aluminum pull. It's a mouthful, but there's a reason for each spec. The diameter matched the existing holes. The reach was enough, but not so much that it was unsightly. I picked aluminum over steel so that it wouldn't rust. The large head and aluminum pull we picked so that the head wouldn't dig into the fiberglass.

Great job 👌 I am wondering how the front of the top is attached to the windscreen frame? Or are there no bolts holding the front in place?

There's a sheet metal mounting piece that connects the top to the windscreen. It's riveted to the fiberglass top. Four bolts fix it to the windscreen. To take the top off, you remove these bolts, unplug the interior light, remove a row of bolts along each side of the bed, then lift it away. It's kind of a hassle, but it looks really cool that way.

Mike - Excellent work on that 40, and super helpful! Mine needs a headliner; too. Where did you source your headliner material? Also - I liked your vid about PPE - but I gotta say you should use a legit respirator when painting. A dust mask doesn’t help as much as a $30 3M respirator will. We want you to keep making videos, so be safe! :)

The headliner material is actually for a Sea Ray boat and came from eBay. The vendor is called GreatLakesSkipper www.ebay.com/itm/Sea-Ray-Boat-3-16-Foam-Back-Vinyl-2088279-Perforated-Pearl-White-54-YD/143536118364?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

Where did you get the rain gutters? Are they new or original? My fj40 looks just like yours!

They are original, but were very rusty. It took quite a lot of time to remove the rust, prime and paint.

About 90% of the bolts I try to remove, including every bolt holding the top on, break off and will need to be drilled out. Are you having the same problems? Any suggestions beyond PB Blaster or WD40?

Yes, I have the same problems. In fact, I made a video about it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/sHWxl5uPnsqZo5Y The short version: 1) Try PB Blaster or WD40 (give it time) 2) Try an impact wrench (the jarring impacts help break corrosion) 3) 6-Point sockets are better than 12-point 4) Apply the heat wrench (welding torch). Works surprisingly well 5) Sometimes nothing works If you can't get it out, you can try: 1) Screw extractors (sometimes works, usually not) 2) Drill a hole through the exact middle of the broken stud, then make the hole gradually bigger until it's almost to the threads. Then use a tap to restore the original thread. This works most of the time. The restored thread won't be full strength anymore but usually, there's enough. If that doesn't work you can install a Heli-Coil thread insert. That involves drilling the stud and thread, re-threading to the size the insert needs and installing the insert. This almost always works and gives a full-strength repair.

Nice, but why is these videos never showing the difficult point. Like here, it is how to handle rear corners, and front- where to finish the headliner.

I agree. What tends to happen is I get so focused on the problem that I forget to video. If I ever make more videos, I'll work harder to capture the problems.
