My husband had a 30-year career as a videographer, shooting television news. He did his shooting in the field, not in the studio, which are completely different skills. For most news stories, he edited his own footage. He typically did anywhere from 3 to 6 stories each workday. For that reason, he became very efficient about shooting only the footage that he would later edit for actual broadcast. Like you said, it eliminates a lot of work on the editor’s part to get the parts you want in an efficient way, but nothing else. He called that process “editing in the camera.“ The tricky part is that you have to be very alert in order to video the most important thing that’s happening in front of your eyes. If you are inattentive or get distracted, you can easily miss the most important part of the action as it develops in front of you. Sometimes, you have to make a split second decision because nothing goes to plan. So there’s that. Video editing does take a lot of time, especially when you add on the special effects and music like you did in this one with Loki. You have a real knack for it. Some people don’t. You’ve got talent, for sure.

i very much enjoy your videos. i think you did a great job with your new drone on the horse gather. used to be a team roper but those days are far behind now. the man who taught me to rope - Reg Camarillo - found my horse. a fantastic 7 year-old out of arizona. as fast as any horse i came across and so well-tempered my sons began riding on backpacks on my back at the age of one. could bend over to open a grate and Rio would be perfectly calm. could catch him in an open pasture simply by walking up with halter then ride him into the tack area again, i love yourr videos and appreciated Jerry answering my question about the paint i see but never hear anything about. i think he said her name is Rosalind. curious as to why she's there. color once mattered to me but Rio was brown and that was my favorite color for Rio. enjoy watching the process for creating a relationship with a horse. someone had already done a fantastic job of that with Rio. my children and i benefitted. keep up the great work. david

At 3:40 you said about the mares you could see near the corral, “…they’re all kinda just gathering themselves up…kinda funny.” Previously you had mentioned that the mares would be de-wormed, get checked for any medical issues, and get their hooves done-basically, medical concierge + spa day for horses. Of COURSE the mares would que up for that…some very smart ladies you have there on PDR! 😉

I love following your videos. I am so impressed how well you take care of all your horses/foals. Do you ever have to provide hay, or does your area provide enough ground cover for them? Those mares all looked good. I've always wondered how much acreage your ranch covers? I've had horses for 52yrs, currently have the 2yo wild-caught Mustang mare (Annie) I adopted from Wheeler Pass HMA, Nevada 14yrs ago for my then 12yo daughter, until my daughter fell out of love with horses when she turned 20. Annie is now 16, and was so heartbroken, because she loved my daughter. Best mare I've ever owned, so now she's mine...and I get to love on her. But, I sure do love some of your foals. Some of the nicest I've seen...and so level headed. Enjoyed watching you work with them all last year. I can see why they are sold as soon as they hit the ground.💞

I have a question. How do you find time to check and repair all the miles of fences you must have. I had a 100 head of stock cows in Iowa and it was a full time job. With all the filming and horse training you do.
@PaintedDesertRanch Жыл бұрын
You’re right… fence work is never ending! Well, the pastures that the livestock are in at and given time are the priority… We make sure those fences are good and when we move pastures, we have to check the perimeter every single time. It’s just an ongoing thing. And like i I said, we only film like one day a week so a lot of the work we do, people don’t really see the majority of it.

@@judychristensen5689 Why not ? Ranchers are mostly very proud of their land, and wouldn't mind at all telling how many acres it covers !
