I would like to know the overall length of the trailer minus the removable part of the hitch/tongue?
@ScruffyGolden2 жыл бұрын
The box is 9' long. Without the hitch, the tip of the chassis to the front of the cabin box is 5'. Then for detail's sake, there is a hitch that adds 4" off the back of the cabin. Sorry it took me so long to respond!

I've been looking at the 5x9 Highway deluxe, but the price of some of the options are absolutely ridiculous - mind you I would do plenty of my own mods if were to get one. A solid galley wall, stabilizers, battery charge controller (minus the battery); are all things I would want added to a custom ordered rig. I can install my own arc jack for half the cost - the mounting hardware is just 2 C clamps, roof racks, and a diesel heater as well.

Hi Crazy Harry. I mod my trailers for a few reasons. Part of it is to get exactly what I want: I prefer Victron and Battleborn products, for instance. When I mod'ed my first trailer, lithium ion wasn't even a thing. Much less an option from Hiker Trailer. I find Hiker's prices to be pretty reasonable, but I agree that if you can do it yourself you often can. Most people don't know how or don't want to spend the time. My videos hopefully help the former. So hell yeah! Mod away (to the degree Hiker will let you ;-) !!!

You keep saying cubic foot. In this case, it's "1 linear" foot difference and the interior space has grown by 1 foot multiplied by cabin width multiplied by cabin height.

I just bought a used Hiker and the fenders are pretty beat up. I like what you did with your fenders. Would you mind telling me which bedliner you used? Was it spray or roll on?
@ScruffyGolden Жыл бұрын
Hi Tommy. I took the fenders off and had them Line-X'd. Not sure what type of trailer you have, but taking the fenders off of the Extreme Offroad was as simply as removing a few screws and then lining those screws up with the existing holes when I put the fenders back on. Line-X is crazy bullet-proof and has the perfect texture for walking on even when wet. If you Google "Line-x near me" you should be able to find someone who will do it. Both fenders only cost me a couple of hundred dollars so it is very much worth the money! Good luck!

Great video. Thanks for sharing. I'm finalizing my spec sheet on a Mid Range XL and was wondering if you know the total height of your EOR with the air suspension totaly bottomed out? I have a 7' garage opening and my XL with an A/C will fit. But if I can make the EOR work I rather go that route. Thanks!
@ScruffyGolden2 жыл бұрын
I had to deflate the tires as well as bottoming out the air suspension. Depends on the shape of your garage ie - if it's arched.

Hey Scruffy, great video and walk around. I came across your channel during what seems to be an endless deep dive into the teardrop camper market lol. I keep circling back to the Hiker trailer because of price and options. My biggest concern is water leaks due to the wood construction. Have you had or heard of any issues with this with Hiker trailers? Also, what type of seasonal maintenance is required? Thanks in advance!
@ScruffyGolden Жыл бұрын
Hi JP! Once upon a time there was a problem with a few of the front windows which turned out to be a window manufacturing defect. That option is no longer available. Other than that, there are no leaks. This trailer is solid built, and after owning 2 of them, I can say water getting into the cabin is not an issue. Seasonal maintenance is greasing hubs, battery care, water tank blowout for winter (if applicable) and a general walk-a-round. Pretty dang easy! Thanks for liking my video. I appreciate you taking the time to drop me a line.

Hey Scruffy! Was really hoping you could help me out by telling me how much bed space you have (length) with the larger galley. I am 6'5, and was wondering I would be able to fit. Thanks!
@ScruffyGolden2 жыл бұрын
Hello Wilderness. I have the 5x9 so the cabin is 9 feet long. I believe the interior is split 2' to the galley and 7' to the cabin - though it might be slightly less due to wall thickness. A standard queen mattress fits loosely wall to wall both ways so if you find a standard queen is comfortable for you, then I think you would be okay. If that sounds tight, you might consider the 5x10 but you would not be able to get the Extreme Offroad in that size. The best thing you can do is call Hiker Trailer and ask them. I know they get this question a lot. Hope this helps.
@Chubbydippin Жыл бұрын
Looks so beefy, strong and tough. Also heavy. What's the dry weight of this trailer? Surprised to see a axle since it's called extreme offroad. Do they offer a axle less independent suspension option? Thanks for the breakdown of this beast of a trailer.
@ScruffyGolden Жыл бұрын
Hi Machu Pichu. I love how beefy and tough these things are myself! You might be surprised by the weight, though. Dry weight is about 2100 pounds. To my knowledge Hiker Trailer does not offer an independent suspension option. I think this was a big question back in the beginning when the EOR was being designed. What I was told is that Hike Trailer went with the axle and the leaf springs because the parts are so readily available anywhere and more easily repaired in the field. Glad you liked the trailer. I think they are awesome. If you get one for yourself, be sure to tell me about it!

How much drop on the hitch did you get to fit the tacoma? 2" or 4"
@ScruffyGolden Жыл бұрын
Hello. The hitch is made by Max Coupler. Or at least it "was". I'm not sure they make this exact off-road hitch any longer. It is a 2" which is the standard on the Tacoma.

That’s a great looking camper but that’s not extreme off road. It should have the Timbren Axeless suspension.
@ScruffyGolden Жыл бұрын
Hi GT27. I confess I have questioned the axle setup myself, in the past. Hiker Trailer's response to my inquiry was that the axle configuration was more easily fixed in many situations, and the parts much more standard and easily found. This seems to be the mentality for my Toyota Tacoma as well, and I have come to appreciate the wisdom in this firsthand. I recently had to perform a fairly major field repair in a very remote place and was able to do so because I had the basic tools needed and because the parts were found in a tractor supply store in the nearest farm town. I love the Timbrens! But if they had been installed on this trailer at that time, I would not have been able to fix the trailer on the spot. It would have cost me at least a thousand bucks to have the trailer towed hundreds of miles and it would have cost me many days of time and back and forth. The axle makes it no less off-road than a Tacoma or a Jeep.
