More bull from this sitel. There is a standing £1000 savings interest allowance in UK. If you are getting 10% interest on your 10,000 savings then I want to know who you are banking with.

start up your own knitting business. Then as a part time or full time self employed person you may claim expenses against any gross income. If you made very little at the end of a tax tear, you may claim losses and receive a tax rebate or carry forward the losses against future income in your second,third years.etc.
