So I started looking for rocks the last couple of weeks since there has been very little trash washing up on the beach. It is a popular thing here. I don't know much about any of them, I generally grab what catches my eye or attention. But I do know which ones to really watch for. Those are at the end of the clip. It's been fun to watch the looks of envy on the faces of the rock hunters I know when I have shown them. The piece at the very end is what is called beach glass, and well cooked. It's been rolling around for awhile; there were no sharp edges and will appear frosted when drying. Almost 5 months now of waddling along the beach so far. It's been quite interesting to see how the conditions have changed, particularly the last month. For example, the high tides have not been very high, and have been very close to the same level. During winter the high, high tide (what is known as a king tide) is right up to the bluff of the dunes. I would say that now they are approximately 150ft or 50m away. It makes it really hard to walk in that dead space because the wind moves the sand around and it's very soft. I will have to make a video of that area, there are some cool looking areas developing.

The last one is a piece of glass. At first I wasn't really sure what it was.

I'd bet that you have quite a few lonsdaleite meteorite/impact diamonds. They're described as translucent with a yellowish brown color but color varies and they're harder than a normal diamond which is 10 on the Mohs scale of hardness and Lonsdaleite is a 16, because of their hexagonal crystal structure. I've got some if you want me to send you a few to look at. You can't scratch them with the best of knives. A scratch will be clear or similar to that of the rock or crystal. A scratch left that's the same color as your knife, is your knife in it's powdered form.

Nice! I`ve got a little stone collection as well. Are the ones at the end Bernstein or something similar? They look cool! (I don`t mean the piece of glass but the other ones)

Honestly, I don't have any idea. I only know that those are what people are looking for. For now, it's just something to do while walking along the beach that keeps me at a very slow pace.

@@corvusaeternusI don't think so. It looks similar but these are volcanic rocks. They do have that nice amber color, though. The big one actually has more of a rootbeer brown color to it. When I first saw it I thought it looked like chocolate. I know there is also petrified wood to be found. There is quite a variety to the geology in this state, if you are into geology you would have a great time. In the foothills they still look for gold and there was some significant coal mining.
