Love this video! My uncle had a 1880 in late 60's early 70's with the Ford Heavy Duty Industrial engine. What an experience riding on that machine with him chopping corn here in Vermont.

That open station would be loud, hot and dirty. That's farming at its best. Awesome stuff Mike!!😁👍

Great video! My neighbors where I grew up had an 1880 with cab, it had the Cat engine. They pulled Badger forage wagons behind it, they had 4 of those… I always liked how loud it was, when I would hear it running I would hurry up and climb a tree in the field tree line, just so I could watch it in action. I was around 7 years old when I started that.

I LOVE the old sp silage choppers 😍. There were 4 of these NH 1880s within a 5 mile radious when I was a kid and in the morning waiting on the side of the county road for the school bus I could hear the Diesel engines in them all over the valley in the morning air. Everybody that used them now wears hearing aids

Wore it out then got a 5400 jd... always remember dad complaining about that thing. Then got a jd 5830. Put over 8k hours on it was a good machine. All custom chopped now
@samspade46343 жыл бұрын
Can you still get parts for that old machine? (meaning you) lol... I shouldn't tease as I was around before they started making those choppers. You were right, I do not remember anyone having a 3 row head chopper when I was young that was big time - today my friends chop 10 rows and move much faster... Great video Mike. I am always wondering what we will see next. You do a great job!

A farmer near us in southern Wisconsin had a Uni back in about 1958, open station the operator sat in the back of the machine right next to the air cooled wisconsin v4 engine, doing two rows at a time, it made a lot of noise just with the v4 and the poor excuse for a muffler if you dare call it a muffler.

We had an 1880 harvester but with the gas Ford engine. Harvester was great but not the motor, but that's was also when gas was cheap.

Sounds nothing like one. 3406 is a straight 6 with a Y pipe splitting into 2. This is a 3150 V8, with true duals, which is one pipe off each manifold. Makes it sound like two 4 bangers fighting each other.
@delbutler8853 жыл бұрын

Cool machine! NH sure made some great stuff back then. One muffler and one straight pipe. 🤓 I’m guessing the one muffler rusted away and they just put on a simple pipe, since they weren’t worried about it being too loud.
