Your yak hacks are BRILLIANT 👏. Please add one more safety item to your box where your safety whistle is kept. That item to add is a portable AIR HORN !! An AIR HORN is not only heard by a wayward boater but also heard by all the other people around nearby. If a safety incident occurs you will quickly have "ALL EYES" ON YOU. It's one of the most important items to always have with you. Second only to your PFD and boat Paddle. Anyways, LOVED YOUR VIDEO AND WELCOME TO GEORGIA!

Great video Chris. I just got my lifetime Tamarack for Christmas and I've got another one on the way for my wife. All the mods are great but I suggest adding the whistle to your life jacket. Just in case you get separated from your kayak. Maybe even throw a couple extra whistles in other places as well.

Great advice man. I have a wrist paracord whistle and added one ro my life jacket shortly after making this video. Definitely a must for kayaking. Glad we're on the same page! Thanks for watching! What area do you fish?

@@fishingistherapy I'm from Florida and love fish in the st. Johns River but now I'm in Central North Carolina. The Cape Fear river runs through this area but I'm not a big fan. In North Carolina you have to get written permission to fish in ponds and lakes. But if you have a way to get there from the river, you're good to go. I haven't put my kayak in the water yet but I look forward to it.

Welcome to the ATL! Bay Area to Kennesaw must have been an adjustment. lol Definitely upgrade your paddle asap. You'll be amazed at how a good, rigid paddle will help you efficiently move through the water. I've got a Carlisle Predator and the same boat, and I'm able to do many miles of lake paddling without much fatigue.

Thanks man. I appreciate the welcome. Thanks for the insight, I quickly upgraded my kayak paddle to the Werner Skagit Hooked model. Your right, it makes a world of difference, I just went out for a little scouting mission at Lake allatoona this past Wednesday and paddled and trolled quite a few miles easy without arm fatigue! It has been my best upgrade yet.

that seat upgrade i shoulda listened to you and got the $35 one on amazon, found what seemed like a great one from Walmart for just $15 - its very solid but with bar across the top on the back of it - saw another guy said no problem just put a pool noodle over the bar - did that but still too intrusive (just softer) - gonna take a hacksaw to it and just cut the bar out - will update on that cuz if that works its a much cheaper alternative! one thing i don't think i see in many videos is how the secure the stadium seat - did i just miss that in yours? i swapped the walmart seat for the stock seat while i was on the water on maiden voyage today - that wasn't simple but not hard either. i think the back part of the stock seat is fine, its just that thin pad on the bottom part.
@fishingistherapy3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that bar on the back is what I wanted to avoid. Saw the pool noodle idea as well and it just didn't seem like it would feel great for a whole day. I had an office chair with a bar in the back and it was uncomfortable. But yeah sawing it off sounds good too, I really enjoy my seat, if it gets to frustrating I definitely recommend getting the one I have. Also I use bungees with hooks on them to strap to pad eyes I have placed near the back of my kayak. I have them linked in the description along with the bungee cord. But yeah I run a bungee from each pad eye that I placed a little farther then my basket and then I hook them to the bar that is at the base of the seat. I will try to put up a more detailed example for you soon. But you can see the orange bungee running from the chairs bar to the pad eyes in different angles in the video. Hope that helps.

Walmart $15 seat hack seems to work. Need to try in boat though. It’s Ozark Trail Extra Wide Stadium Seat with Hooks, Black $15. They claim to have purple for $6 at store but didn’t. So take two screws out of back of chair then hack saw the middle bar out and file down with metal file. (And don’t be a dumb ass like me and put chair on pavement while sawing, nearly ground the cloth off opposite side!) Then put screws back in. Only possible drawback is it seems a tad floppy (too much cloth) holds up to about 8” (cloth is about 12”). How high up does this other chair give a firm hold ?

@@dathead3813 The height is 17" for the back support. Can't find any claims of how high it will support, but I feel total support throughout the part of back that rests against it.

Great video and mods Chris. I bought the same kayak and got it September of this year. I have been working on my mods and hope to have it done by next season. My life jacket is a fishing type with tons of pockets so my scale, grips, pliers, knife, whistle and phone get carried there. I plan on using the larger milk crates to fit my tackle trays but I bought 3 smaller ones and velcroed them together then to the hatch like you did. This way I can put lures etc depending on the pond and weather. My anchor is actually a 2lb coated dumbbell attached to a retractable clother line reel. Most of the ponds and lakes here in Massachusetts have tree stumps so a grapple style would get hung up and lost. Have had the kayak out about 8 times before the season ended here and what a game changer. Love your logo, fishing definitely is therapy.

Thanks for the support Glenn. Yeah man I put alot of time into my kayak, so I could fish it this season. Heading out in the morning to see if I can get on some slabs. I look forward to seeing how your mods turn out. You don't fish during the winter?

Another take on the anchor is to use a coated hand dumbbell from Walmart. They are inexpensive and if you need to cut them lose you aren't losing a real anchor. Love your idea on the tackle trays, I bought 3 small ones and velcroed them together so I can put lures and terminal tackle depending on the fishing conditions. Milkcratesdirect.com has rectangular crates and I bought 2 for my kayak crate and glued wood blocks on the bottom so it doesn't rock on the back hatch.I also bought 20 pad eyes and a bungee cord kit and made my own to secure the crate and cart to the kayak. All I need is the rod holders and anchor trolley and I am set to go. My PFD is a fishing type with tons of pockets so I can keep my scale, grips, knife etc close at hand. Tight lines Chris.

Thanks for the video! Really helpfully! I would like to use the hatches. But I didn‘t find some hatch bags somewhere, or a bucket what good fit in this hole. Can you give me some advice?
@fishingistherapy3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I had a hard time finding a hatch bag that was suitable as well. What I would recommend is buying a dry bag and put it inside the hatch and use a carabiner clip with a bunny cord to hook the straps on it, then attach to it to the seat clips like I do in this video with my line snippets and rod holders so it will be right there when you access your hatch. Or just attach the carabiner clip to the inside of the lid, and the straps of the bag, so when you open it you pull the bag up as well. Hope that makes sense, but a dry bag would be my first option. Here is a link to a good one. The bungies I linked in the description. www.amazon.com/dp/B01MS5A6FF?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
