Thanks for the follow up! I enjoyed our visit and respect that you were willing to give voice to other perspectives. I also enjoyed your conclusion about New Horizon being Schrodinger's Mall ^_^

I remember hearing about New Horizon 4 years ago and out of the blue, checked KZbin to see if someone had done an update on what's been going on. I saw your original video from Sept '22 and it confirmed what I was expecting, that the mall was dead. But thanks to Cory's comments and your follow up, I'm glad to see that there is another side to this story. I'm grateful that you accepted the criticism and decided to talk with Cory. It'd be too easy too just follow your pride and ignore the feedback so thanks for following up.

Thanks so much for watching! There’s always lots of sides to any story. I was very thankful that Cory called me out and agreed to share his perspective on camera. I stand by my original video, of course, but as you say I was only looking at one side of the story, and perspective and presentation count for a lot.

It's great that you followed up on the criticism. That's very rare 😀

I’m just trying to be as fair as possible. For any issue there are lots of points of view, and as my interview subject said when you go into a project with an outcome in mind you tend to downplay the opinions that don’t fit the narrative. I’m always happy to be called out - at the very least it means people are watching my content!

Interesting to see, my friend made the original video in this mall when it first opened, and went viral. It appears to have at least made some strides from that time. I think this place will always struggle.

I wonder why they don’t turn it into a farmers market type place like the one down Blackfoot? Seems to be similar in a way in terms of small footprint stores? Just the stores and mall seems to have a bit more of a sterile feel and I guess a bit closed in. The parking sure seems to be better than the farmers market.
@ProklaimYYC Жыл бұрын
I believe there is a farmers market there on certain days. They are using one of the larger spaces on the lower lever, I think.

@@ProklaimYYCdid not know that. Maybe then just a bit more advertising is all that is needed?

I was surprised when I released my first video on New Horizon the number of people who commented that despite living in Calgary they had never heard of the mall. There are some marketing gaps that could be filled in, I think.

New Horizon is a dead mall. End of Sentence. I have been there a number of times in the past few years. Cory is welcome to his opinion as a store owner there. I am just making my observations. Seems to be a mixture of real estate deals gone bad, money laundering front, and a few struggling businesses.
@ProklaimYYC Жыл бұрын
It's definitely a matter of perspective, as I said in the video. You can go there and find open stores, shoppers, and unique items. You can go there at a different time and also find empty storefronts, lots of 'For Rent' signs, and a dead mall. For some, time has already told, and for others, time will tell what the mall will eventually become.

This mall is dead, but is alive on the floor with Candy Castle. It's very well, not dead on holidays like christmas because Candy Castle was doing like a christmas event.

The one thing that baffles me is that stores are majority closed daily regardless of it staying it’s open plus the stores having items yet closed

I agree that is a strange phenomenon at New Horizon. I just posted another video that makes mention of that aspect of the mall. kzbin.info/www/bejne/inazimaZntuogKc Thanks for watching!

If they built within Chinook mall where Nordstrom was, then their idea would be extremely successful, but competing as a completely separate mall next to the biggest mall Drossiron in Calgary was a bad idea.

Thanks for this update on the mall! I’m in South Carolina and would love for a place like New Horizon with truly unique shops… especially something really different like this shop owner has opened.

Thanks for watching! I enjoyed talking with Cory who is a passionate defender of his business and I very much respect that. I’m hoping to do some more follow-ups in the future to see if the mall fills out some more.

I saw your previous video of that mall, and the reaction from the vendor who defended his little shop and environment really well. Glad you returned and met with him (a really cool guy with a passion he turned into his business), and kudos for your fairness and honesty, listening and giving it a second chance! (Even though I personally found the architecture really bland and unappealing haha!)

Thanks for watching! I agree, Cory is a cool guy and I really appreciated his willingness to be so candid on camera. He made a lot of good points and I definitely wanted to give him a chance to voice his very fair critiques of my first video. The problem with New Horizon is that it’s neighbours with one of the biggest and most popular malls in all of Canada. It will always remain a “dead mall” simply because it’s right next to Cross Iron Mills.

Nice redemption vid. As someone who can't even fathom opening my own business, I greatly respect entrepreneurs that take on great financial risks and hardships to run their own business - to create a livelihood for themselves/families and/or follow their dreams/passion. KZbinrs (not necessarily aimed at you mind you) that post these types of 'Dead Mall' narratives create a self-fulfilling prophecy of sorts and are doing a great disservice to honest hard-working people all for the sake of views. Edit - spelling

Thanks for watching! That’s the reason I made this video and I think why Cory rightfully called me out. As I said in the video I went looking for a dead mall and found one. But a lot of factors played into that, and I think it’s important to examine as many perspectives as possible.

I was just here today (march 2024) and I agree that it's dead. It seemed to be almost exclusively Indian traditional clothes shops and card game/memorabilia shops. Wasn't a single store I found as a white guy in his 30's that has something I wanted or needed. Lots of empty booths and a mostly empty food court.

They could join this market with the main Mall (Cross Iron) by an underground tunnel. Look at the Mall of China where these two companion Malls are joined together differently.

He's a good guy, and I hope things work out. But. I think the take you had.. of the mall was fair and real. I think the criminals were the developers.
@ProklaimYYC Жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment! A lot of people were critical of the developers, and I do think they have a role to play in the mall’s struggles. And I admire business owners like Cory who are committed to standing up for their businesses and who are willing to engage. Thanks for watching!

Well, here is my take. I travel by the Horizon Mall numerous times a month as a professional truck driver. Every time I see it, I voice a prayer to God that the mall will become alive and fruitful with retailers and customers. Someone spent an investment for it to be a success. Therefore, it is imperative that they experience success so as it will be a blessing to it’s retailers and customers. My prayers will continue. God, the Father, hears them. He will most certainly answer in the positive. I believe it. 🙏

The location of the mall is just wrong. I think it would be good for start up retailers . But dead for now.

Success for New Horizon, it seems, is in the eye of the beholder. The best way to judge is to visit and form your own opinion. That’s what I did in my two videos, and it’s clear there are multiple ways to interpret New Horizon. Thanks for watching and commenting!
