Thanks Ryan, I did have success with that horse but it did take 6 or 7 months. Much more co-operative and willing. Last I heard the owners sold him and he is now at pony club with a young rider (and experienced mum) and doing well. That was about January this year.

Ryan, I really enjoy your training techniques and appreciate all of your experience and how you tell us what you are doing and looking for without making up new words or using slang. Some of the things I see you do in this video, I saw David Borntreger do to win a mule training competition in Terrell Texas about 3 1/2 or 4 years ago or so. I think you would do very well in such a competition. David was the last one to put a saddle on the mule but won anyway because he taught the mule so much before hand, even riding bareback, steering, stopping, backing and all.

Ryan, I've been training horses for 25 years, starting horses and working with problem horses. In my journey to horsemanship, I watch other trainers to add more tools to my tool box. I believe each horse is as individual as humans are. So, a certain technique may not work with every horse! Now, I specialize in working with problem horses. Like you, I evaluate the horse at home with the owner. This helps me to determine if I have a person with a horse problem or a horse with a person problem, usually the latter. I find that most problems are a lack of a good foundation. Usually I am able to do some ground work that corrects the problem. Then I make sure that I show the owner how to keep the horse from reverting to the negative behavior. I also inform the client that I don't do the 30, 60 or 90 day schedule. I advise them that it takes as long as it takes. I can't train, nor can a horse learn, on a schedule. Putting time constraints on me equals pressure, which then transfers to the horse. All of which causes negative results. Like you, I try to figure out how the horse learns best and use that technique to accomplish the goal. Thank you for sharing your knowledge to help horses and horse owners.

LOL! I had a Gypsy to retrain last year due to bucking issues. They can really bronc 🤣🤣🤣!!! The first time he did I was doing a hose lesson and his girlfriend was taken away. Did not expect such a violent reaction and he went on for ages. You are correct about their level sensitivity.

I started learning horsemanship last year. I want to take a back country fishing trip and the outfitter uses horses, so I originally wanted just riding lessons. So the guy I chose to learn from started me doing ground work with his horses so I could learn what it really takes. I am currently hanging out at a Equine therapy ranch on Tuesday mornings as part of a first responder and veteran program. They have a Belgian cross named Tripp who they got from a state seizure. They are working with him to eventually ride him. He will come see me at the fence and will on occasion let me get close enough to scratch his chest. While I have zip experience, watching this video is helping me understand what the owner is trying to do with Tripp. Thank you so much for sharing these videos.

I love your comment about releasing with movement as opposed to releasing only at the stand still. I was taught only to release a horse when they stop the movement if they’re worried as opposed to releasing if they are still moving forward. So I will definitely Be looking to release with a calm, relaxed forward as opposed to a calm, relaxed stop all the time.

Yes for sure; Pat Parelli and many other trainers and zoologists with care comparisons are key as well. On the money issues: I know how we can fix all that; we have tons of friends begging for it!!! So far something like this is the best restitution for safety for all and repairing all of the pollutants out of the air as well as stopping the plan that marriage and taxes were get raped pay go to jail or die make a false confession or we're taking your children do anything get a loan get a credit card we're not doing anything you know you wanted it you know you did it you know you're just crazy which is what I was being told across the last 26 years of trying to get divorced from my perpetrator which I thought I achieved in 2018 however apparently our judges weren't taught that taking judicial notice of the decrees was there civil Duty and liability to observe my objections throughout each department. They were literally doing slavery across the globe on defamation and slander attempts at malicious undue prosecution across the board claiming some excuse that it wasn't theirs to attend the assassinations attempts and that if I were to tell anyone I would be blamed because it was the system or the process or the wrong case or the wrong court all the way being told it didn't count or it wasn't my case and I know that as I was the one reported to like I know get the literal pimps off of me (anyone that I AM and any where that I AM) and our budget please and thanks you. Triangulation was a judicial pathogen! Feel free to ask me questions through KZbin or by text at 1-575-437-0122 or email thank you and sorry for your service to our regions of interest! ALL CIVILIANS: The New Mexico children youth and families division started a world war November 18th 2020 it needs stopped immediately; the premeditated terrorist operation in which my children and I were raped and extorted racketeered through terrorism of Holloman Air Force Base by Heather Eileen Evans & Jeremiah Paul Johnson's identity theft perjury fraud and coercion of the third judicial district Court they are violating the orders of protection to murder people to convince me they can't find and return my stolen children and money clear the perpetrators record off of my name (Ambassador Keely) ALL MILITARY:1. Army; pick up every homeless person we can find and get them trained in something that benefits all of society and to work doing something that benefits all of society and all of their paperwork cleared because this oh we're all stuck on paperwork isn't working for anyone. 2. Border patrol and the National Guard; become Department of Vocational Rehabilitation assisting all to farming construction forestry healthcare fields. 3.The Marines are supposed to get the prisoners out of the prisons and retrained to jobs they can do to benefit the environment while remanufacturing all of the weapons into solar panels wind and hydroelectric generators and hydrogen fuel cells to clean all water contamination. 4. The Navy is supposed to redistribute goods and services that some people have extra of donating to those with little while assisting with the remanufacturing projects. 5. The Air Force is supposed to be remanufacturing the prisons either into dust if they're too contaminated or dentist offices or another beneficial career field because imprisonment is harboring fugitives and we're all done with the pain for this whole system of no one knows about the get raped pay go to jail or die everything will be used against you plan. 6.Politicians are supposed to be getting everyone universal healthcare Universal income Universal travel Universal equality. 7. The government is supposed to be all of us working from wherever we're at to maintain civil Unity and protect the Coast Guards mission. 1. Remove all ammunition from the guns 2. Disassemble all ammunition and weapons 3. Remanufacture the metal at recycling plants to cell phone towers that look like trees but include solar paneling and wind turban leaves to power nearby villages across the planet in regions less prone to natural disaster heat them in areas that are cold to prevent ice caps from freezing on them during the winter months. 4. Develop hydrogen fuel cell septic tanks that scrape themselves out to remove residual waste and create clean food water and fertilizer. 5. Be blessed and happy all the days of your lives locate any abandoned buildings and remanufacture them into habitats for Humanity with aquaponic units to feed and create organic Industries so we can have everything ready for space when we get to live there. ( everyone knew if anyone could do it you could do it!) 6. Wherever you can cultivate cannabis you can form the housing units for safety you can even start growing it in one house and start building the next house much in the same way as bacteria multiply and divide. 7. We can make the bunkers look so much more habitable inside if we put projections up of outside on the walls and the hydrogen fuel cells pumping in clean electricity air and water should make them feel much better too Vans for moving air and add some UV lights for healthy production of the plants it's necessary it will keep the humans more upbeat as well. 8. Sorry all that kept happening sure hope we can get it off the table for everyone forever so that all we have is peace and security for all the civilians! There are few revisions yet like adding the airport Hangar down by the dock and the functionality of the closing swinging up door at the entrance as well as the other decontamination zones between activity rooms and the cat Park above the dog park with tunnels for them to walk through at their owners discretion and hemp Crete hydroelectric dams in arid regions avoiding tectonic plates convergences and linking the hyperloop and cooled magma attachment couplings for the base and roof and to prevent unregulated volcanic eruptions while growing new coral reef observations units and recycling all landfills. Also hemp caps and filters should be added on all existing known pollution derivatives and the hydrogen fuel cell septic tanks should be added to all desalinization plants and remote locations for both electricity consumption subsidy and reconstituting the air and water into completely uncontaminated at the molecular structure to provide both fertilizer and climate change prevention buildups. Have a great day, best wishes!

Yes! Go to a show and document it! That would be awesome. I love the stirrup flopping technique. I seem to remember us long lining with the long reins going from the bit to and through the stirrups and then to hand. We may have tied the stirrups together with binder twine under the belly. This may be a false memory lol. It was a long time ago. The saddle pad issue was big for my coach. He’s an old timer and he would say that it’s better to have layers rather than one thick chunk of pad. I was told to use one sweat pad and two folding blankets. The single pad looks nice and it’s easy to deal with but you don’t reduce friction by using that rather than multiple layers. I’m just putting that out there in case someone may be having rubbing issues. It’s fine to have a saddle fit at time of fitting but you can’t have a bunch of saddles that fit during body changes due to training or winter fat and hair etc etc. Blankets allow for the changes. Sometimes I only use the sweat pad and one folding blanket. Also, it amazes me how awful and hateful some folks can be. The dog people are worse than the horse people though, if that’s any comfort lol. You are a terrific trainer doing excellent work in my humble opinion. Keep on keepin on.

Like some other viewers, I do not have a horse. Grew up in a rodeo farming town, Let'r Buck!, and many years ago, would ride because a friend wouldn't want to ride alone. I had no idea what I was doing. I usually ended up on one of the stock horses on a friend's ranch. Had some wild times with me just along for the trip on the horses back. Almost got bucked off by a big gelding that didn’t want anything to do with my inexperience. Though the stories sound funny, in hind sight, it was flat out dangerous. I was fine on a slower, more mellow mare😁 I can't fully explain why your training videos are so engaging, but I watched one by chance and now watch 1 or 2 a day. Maybe it is a subliminal feeling of relaxation that is transmitted as we watch? I enjoy it and love to admire the horses. The thing I admire the most is your techniques are based on the horse's senses, not on the human thought process. Perhaps that's the first lesson? I loved it when you climbed on this horse bareback. She stood there, frozen for a few seconds, processing it. You could see the wheels turning in her head. Thanks for giving rider and horse the opportunity to have a symbiotic relationship.

I don't know, where you live, but where I'm at there's always plenty of horse owners searching for people to ride or even only groom their horses on a regular basis. You make a contract and depending on the horse you pay 20 - 50€ monthly to visit their horse and ride it or go on a walk, groom, do some groundwork etc. I can't afford riding lessons or anything like that, but I had a very nice retired horse for a while that I would visit, groom and take for a walk once a week. 😊

On the very low level I am at, it is never the horse being wrong, but they sure are a good mirror of where I make an error, that is _ I am not being consequent and clear, and jump towards grumpy simply because I'm insecure. Love your attitude with the horse, your respect for them and love for them, and my two are sending you heaps of love for improving their human; she ain't perfect, but she's improving. Hey Ryan, haters are always gonna hate. Pay them no mind. I like your approach to starting and training. It is more so building trust and relationship, and bringing them along with you, so they want to follow you. Everyone is going to differ a bit with their training methods. The important ingredient is taking the time to build that trust so they can learn, and bringing them along at the speed that works for them. The days of "Breaking a horse" are out of date and no longer appropriate with what we now know. Wishing you continued success and lifelong learning.

People sometimes buy the "colder" breeds of horses like draft X or Clydie X or Gypsy horses like this mare, because they think they'll be easier to ride because they're not sensitive like the "hot" breeds. What they forget is that for centuries, the hot breeds (Thoroughbred and Arab) were bred to be ridden, and the heavy breeds were bred to be pulling stuff. For instance, I have never met a Clydie X who was good to ride, and there are a few around here in Australia. This mare looks quite unreactive to many things, around the obstacles and such, but that bucking with the saddle was a masterclass in commitment!

You are an excellent teacher Ryan, I think I have seen most of your videos. I have used quite a few of your ground handling techniques on my own mare, and it really makes a difference, particularly with our bonding/trust relating, as I was a very anxious rider, due to being bucked off when I was 13, fracturing my neck, and breaking my nose. Thank you for your wisdom and experience as I found I am a lot more confident on the ground and on her back. Cheers, and I think you should definitely compete!

Years ago, back in the last century, I was known for training bombproof horses and reclaiming damaged ones. I used methods very similar to yours. The owner of the boarding facility gave me the old Professor Berry Horsemanship course. I might even have a few booklets still around. The whole idea of showing them who's boss without abusing them seemed foriegn to the gymkhana folks that surrounded me back then. Many of the ponies were down right dangerous and I spent lots of time just trying to make them safer and working with the kids on dealing with their basically untrained mounts. After watching a few of your videos, I have no critics, but see some things I woulld change if I were lucky enough to get back in the game.

I'm in Wisconsin and I had a turkey take off and go right underneath my horse and he is a Friesian Percheron cross he barely moved. But I think that is mostly because of his breed and also because he had a good upbringing

My horse trainer uses her driving reins to do the same thing moving those stirrups around. I was amazed when I first saw her do that with my rescue horses that I saved from kill pens.

Road to the Horse is fun to watch but as far as being a real test of a trainer's talent it falls short. The contest is all about getting the most results in a short period of time. This is hardly a priority when staring a colt. Some horses are ready to ride the first day as you well know, and some may not be ready in a week or two or three. The horse tells us when it's ready. But in Road to the Horse it's a contest and if you get the right horse and your savvy is good you might win a contest. Who cares? The horse only cares about how it's being treated and that's obviously your priority too. Ryan, you don't need to prove anything to anyone when it comes to handling horses. All your videos here prove that you are a darn fine horseman with a ton of ability and knowledge. What you do demonstrates your knowledge and how much you care about your horse. You always demonstrate a good connection with the horses and that counts above all else. I'm not sure which famous horseman said this but "The horse doesn't care how much we know, it just wants to know how much we care." Good horse training always has that understanding at it's roots. If I lived in your neck of the woods and wanted someone to start a colt for me I'd feel confident coming to you. You're a truly fine horseman and many of us who watch your videos appreciate what you do and see no need to go to Road to the Horse. Now if you go to just have some fun and not get all tied up in contest mode, hey what the heck, fill your boots. But you know that all the really top horsemen and women out there won't put any store in what the results of that contest will be, win or loose. Nothing to prove. Thanks for all the good you do.

This is motivational experience. Watching the communication channel opened up by/between this fellow and the horse really demonstrates how important - and rewarding - it is to get that channel open and understood by both sides.
