Thank you so much for this so helpful are spelling from IEW just came two days ago so yesterday was our first go and I absolutely love it and I did listen to Andrew‘s video about spelling and the brain (which I typically don’t watch the videos) and that was amazing and makes me even more excited to be using this program and so far my struggling speller was really happy with this program on the placement test he did place outside of level a but he wanted to give it a try and he did just fine I think it’s going to be a good fit
@laurawhorley83892 жыл бұрын
That's funny, we re-write three times too for the missed words. My kids didn't want to listen to Mr. Andrew so I just call it to them. LOVE this program. We started last year for both kids. The oldest (8th grade) just finished lesson 43 today in "A". My other (6th grade) is almost on 40. So impressed with IEW! Worth every penny

What age group would you recommend starting this?
@SimplyLivingIt Жыл бұрын
Hey there! So I'm not sure what they recommend on their website (I didn't check before responding to your comment, lol!). However, we started it in 4th and it has been great! We could have probably started it in 2nd or 3rd, to be honest! We will be continuing on with it this year! ❤️

I have never looked at this!! My boys really struggle with spelling, and this sounds like it would be so good for them 😃😃 What age do you do it with? I combine my 2nd and 4th grader with Spelling. Thanks for sharing, Jamie!! ❤❤

Hey Jamie!!! I’m pretty sure I’m switching to phonetic zoo so I’m glad I found your video! I had no idea you were using it!!!! I have a Question tho, did you use the placement or did you just start it?? I really want to start level A but not sure Kade is gonna pass the placement test cause spelling isn’t sticking for him which is why I’m switching to this.
@SimplyLivingIt Жыл бұрын
Hey Jill!!!! No, we did not do the placement...we just started! We love it, even still!!

Hi! I have a 9th grader who struggles with spelling and this looks great! How could I use this and still be able to record grades for his transcript? Would you grade it like a normal spelling test? Thanks for sharing!

Yes, you definitely could!

We don't use any IEW currently. Do you think this is doable even if unfamiliar with IEW? Thanks! My 9 year old is an excellent reader, terrible speller.
@SimplyLivingIt Жыл бұрын
Hey friend! YES! I totally do!!! We weren't really familiar with IEW either...but the spelling has been an addition that was a big win! I have a homeschool update coming soon, I talk more about it there. But for my 9 and 12 year old boys...YES! Phonetic Zoo has been great! 😊

I’ve wondered how phonetic zoo works, it looks way more difficult/involved when I’ve looked at on their site! My struggling reader/speller gets stressed out by spelling rules so I’m trying Spelling You See this year for him, hopefully it works…

@d.l.l.2429 Жыл бұрын
There is no way your child can do this in 5 minutes! The child is supposed to spell them first as they listen to the audio clip, then they will spell them again as they hear on the audio clip the correct way to spell them. So they are essentially supposed to write them twice. That is why the pdf printable for their spelling test is a full sheet of paper. Then the student is supposed to see what words they missed. It is up to the parent what they do with the words they missed. I would set aside at least 10 minutes for this. Unless your child writes really quick! Remember, it is not a matter of rushing but short repetitive exposure to these words. There is also a short 'lesson' you present to your child when they are first introduced to the words.
@SimplyLivingIt Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! 2 years later, we still use and love phonetic zoo! I would say 10/15 minutes as the words get more difficult. We have never printed out the printables, and I have never taught a "lesson" to my boys. We use it our own way, and it has worked so well for them! They write as they listen to the audio, then listen to correct misspellings. It is wonderful! ❤️
