For the VEX-allergic, those custom density and viscosity controls can be added with a couple of Attribute Adjust Float SOPs, that have bounding box and ramp controls built-in, with no VEX needed.

Hey Moritz .. awesome tutorial as always .. I'd like to point out something .. I believe that the reason why your flip simulations take too long is because of how to set the size of the flip container .. I believe that setting it to size of the sim itself is more efficient .. you don't need a 20*20*20 meter cube container when you're doing a sim that is 5*20*5 meter cube .. Cheers to everyone at Entagma

Big issue for me is that the Flip collide volume resolution is invariably linked to grid/particle separation of the container. This means lowering the separation for quick testing significantly reduces the resolution of the collision volume, closing holes for example or rounding edges. In a normal dop network I can create a very accurate collision volume without changing particle separation or grid resolution. I don't understand why I can not set the volume resolution in the collision node.

This is a common misconception. Even with the DOP workflow, collider is downsampled when you reduce the sim resolution. It is just not displayed as such. It is a bit more complicated. Colliders are used in two ways: 1. When solving pressure, this is done on the grid and thus prone to low resolution. For example, a cup thinner then a voxel will not hold fluid properly and the fluid will collapse on itself. 2. Particle collision, if you make sure that the FLIP Collide node has `Surface Collide` turned on then the input collision geometry will be passed to the FLIP Solver and particles will collide with it. We made the decision to fix the collider resolution to FLIP Solver's resolution because the collider is resampled to the sim resolution anyway. Sometimes it was also leading to confusion when the collider looked ok but wasn't behaving as expected.

Thanks for the introduction! what would be the workflow to setup a collision box, without blasting the top face? (A closed mesh) Can't find an update on that anywhere. Do I have to add at least some small Hole SOP somewhere for this to work?

hi @Entagma is there a way to create a suction effect from sop flip particles.. the effect would look like an object sucking up the particles to fill its own volume up... I cant find anything like this anywhere that is still relevant in houdini 19.5.. very confused.

Big issue for me, as i change the particle seperation there are volume loss during simulation. normally i use the particle radius scale to solve the problem but in the New Sop Flip the "Particle radius scale" is missing. Any idea how to fix the issue?

Perhaps it is just me but I think the particles sticking on the walls of the tank is not realistic. I was looking for a friction setting if there is one. How would you control this?

Hi Vytas, in the FLIP container, in the viscosity settings try checking "Slip on Collision" and play with the slip scale, potentially that might fix it. Cheers, Mo
