Hi! We are An and Jeff, two happily retired 70 year old seniors from the USA, who sold most of our stuff, and with our bossy little Yorkie, Bella, moved to the sunny south of France, to enjoy our “golden years” and the joie de vivre available to us, in beautiful Nice, France.
Moving from the USA to a foreign country was no small “project”. Through our videos, we’ve been taking you through the Long Stay Visa process, the packing, the purging, the moving, searching for an apartment, creating a great Dossier, learning the way things are done administratively in France, and sharing the steps, talking about what we’ve learned and the ups and the downs.
And now, we continue to share our life, our new life, here in Nice, getting settled, adjusting to the “French” way of doing things, dealing with the French “red tape” and all the while, making every wonderful day in Nice, the best day ever…

Thank you for your kind words about France and Nice . We moved here three months ago and really enjoy our life here . Have you ever been to Cap 3000 a huge and wonderful CC located just over Nice airport . You can go there by bus line 12 in about 20 min from city center . Have a pleasant life in Nice . You deserve it . Jacques

Merci Jacques! Oui, we have been to CAP 3000 Mall. We did find it wonderful and in fact we did a video about our visit a few months ago. Here's a link to watch, although it appears you're very familiar with the mall. kzbin.info/www/bejne/ppyXkpiibLedm8U It's a great place to "get lost" on a rainy day. We love the upstairs area after we are done shopping and just want to relax with a glass of wine or Aperol Spritz. Thanks for your nice note. 😍

Bella is fabulous! She has gotten a little bossy about which restaurants we eat at and her reason for being there, (ie. feed me, feed me) LOL, but she is a "Princess"!

Several familiar places😊 We’ve passed by the area where the Bricorama is and now we know where to go once we make the move. I appreciate you guys ! You save us a lot of time and effort. Funny story…our 1st time in Nice, a worker at the airport told us it was cheaper to get the tram ticket at the Grand Arenas stop😊

Thank you for another great video! Of all the couples I watch re: things French and living in France, you are at the top of the list! I don't suppose you would be interested in the job of moving us over there, would you???🥴 So much to know, so little time.....

Getting ourselves moved to France was enough for us. LOL! It IS a lot of work, but once you get here, and can finally take a breath, you'll realize it was all worth it. ..although it doesn't really end once you get here. You have to validate your visa, apply to get on the France health system, go to OFII, learn French if you don't know it, deal with the driver's license, if applicable, find doctors, etc. etc. BUT once you're here the worst of it is over. Thanks for watching!😊

Bonjour! Thank you An & Jeff. Your videos are very helpful. We are carefully considering which city has the services we need, like trams, airports, pharmacies, healthcare, markets, and affordable rentals. Merci! Dean & Cindy

Kudos to you all, making it through the trams! Curious, have you done an in depth video about what is needed to take Bella? I have a pup to take as well as one of my biggest worries when we plan to retire next year . Keep up the great work

Yes!! Here's a link to that video. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hp2boGCCbdSJec0 The best starting place is to talk to your Vet ASAP. Don't wait. Make sure your VET has experience doing the paperwork and dealing with the USDA. Ours, fortunately, had done it before. We discussed it with our vet, around 6 mos to a year ahead. And then we booked the appointment, months ahead, at the Vet's office, for 10 days before her little feet would hit France soil. If you're using a Vet that has never done it before, I'd look for a Vet who has. Also make sure your dog has the right chip. It has to be the "universal one" that can be read in France. It's the last thing our Vet checked 10 days before, just in case, and the 1st thing our new French vet checked when we brought our dog into his office, for her required first appt. to get her doggy passport, here in France.

That's more information than I could have possibly asked for. Thank you so much. Tomorrow morning phone the vet! Bonne chance

Hi, please do us a favor, and send us a PM, to the email address under our videos, sharing a little about of information about yourself and your interest. (Your KZbin profile desertdweller8520 has zero information about who you are, where you're from, etc. etc.) While we love meeting our subscribers when our schedule allows, we like to know "who", exactly, is making the request, first😊. So be sure to drop us a line.

Hi, when you buy larger items at Ikea, how do you get delivery?
@postcardsfromourgoldenyears
@postcardsfromourgoldenyears Ай бұрын
We request delivery. If you're in the store, you go up to a computer at a kiosk and place your order yourself, on one of the computers there, or you can ask a sales representative to assist you with ordering and they can also check inventory to make sure they have it in their warehouse OR if you're ordering from home, as we have done on occasion, after you select your item, you check to make sure it's in stock and then check for delivery options and select the one that works for you. The store you go to will only deliver items available in the store closest to your home. If they are out of an item but another store in France has it, they will tell you where YOU can go to pick it up (at another store) but they won't deliver to you from a store out of your local area. They will ship just about everything they sell, even small items, either by Post or if it's large, by their delivery truck. And, you can't order too far in advance. If you want something delivered, you have to order it 2-3 days before you want to receive it. They are very fast.

Great video as always, however, a bit too much reading for me. Could you possibly do voice over, so I don’t have to stop the video to read.

Actually most people tell us they prefer that we add the text, so they can stop the video and take notes. Frankly, we make the decision based on our available time. Since this is not a "job" for us, and we don't get paid for making these videos, or do this to earn a living, we go with whatever makes sense to us and mostly to me, since I am the one who edits each of the videos. To be honest, making and editing these videos takes a lot of time and is something I decided to do to keep my mind active, so I don't get Alzheimer's disease. Seriously, having watched my mother die from this and not wanting to follow her lifestyle prior to her getting Alzheimer's, my doctor suggested I do something that involves a lot of thinking, like learning a new language or teaching myself to edit videos. Involves a lot of technical steps. I enjoy doing it. But, I prefer not to make it feel like extra "work". Doing voice-overs is actually more work, after the fact. So, in some videos, we talk instead of showing text, if we have time, to shoot it that way. Otherwise, we shoot the videos while we are actually doing what we are showing in the video--for us, because we had to go somewhere-for us. We are actually showing us living our lives, finding our way as new expats in France. Thanks for understanding 😊

@@postcardsfromourgoldenyears I appreciate how much work you put into these videos. I am actually hooked on your opening theme song. I pour a glass of wine and hit play and instantly start dreaming the dream! We are heading to Nice in October with our grown sons to scope it out. Love the text for the extra info. Already downloaded the Tram app so I won't have to rewind and write it down. Thank you!
