Yes, in aviation, the Gov and commercial operators tend to purchase them by the dozens. They typical operate a modified admin style iOS. You can't sign-in to your own Apple account in moist cases, nor would you want to. Apps, private and retail are managed by IT as well as automatic updates etc. We beat them to death, get them super hot, super cold, never close apps, turn off and or restart. The screens are always a wreck. We often carry one as a back up as well. Likely always overcharged. If you are lucky, they have Otter Box's on them. Like I said, a hard use tool. Not hipster coffee shop jewelry. I am just happy to now know that our new iPads will now have more ram.

I've owned an iPad Mini 6 since pretty early on in it's release and I absolutely love it. Mostly I use it for watching Movies, TV Shows, Maps, Social Apps & playing games like Chess or Othello with my kids. While I carry my iPhone everywhere I go, I almost always have my iPad Mini 6 with me as well. Not rushing out to upgrade to a 7 though mainly because having a SIM Card slot for when I travel abroad for work has come in extremely helpful.

Personally I think the mini is perfect for what it is. Many of the things people want apple to add would likely not scale well on the smaller screen and then they would complain that apple did a terrible job. I just spent 1700 bucks to upgrade from my mini 6, would hate to know what the price tag would have been if it came with face ID, M chip, Pro motion etc. I wonder if the small form factor could handle the heat an M chip produces ?? I use my mini every day for writing and various other tasks, it is the one apple device I feel I could not do without. I was so happy to see the 7 announced, first time I have ever pre ordered anything. The only thing I wish for would be a larger battery though I would hate for them to change the size of the device even slightly to obtain that goal. Mine arrives today, I still have to wait at least 6 hours for Fedex to get here. The following comment is for potential buyers worried about Jelly Scroll. I have never noticed Jelly Scroll, I'm sure it's there, I'm sure I have seen it, but I have never "noticed" it and it has never once bothered me. Honestly if you are quickly swiping through something then you aren't reading it anyway so does it really matter ? Just picky people looking for something to gripe about. Buy the mini, you will love it IF you are buying it for the right reasons.

I use an ipad for procreate and streaming services exclusively. I don’t even use it for notes or anything, just watching and drawing. I had the 12.9 iPad Pro 5th gen. I really liked it, worked completely fine. The size just killed it for me. Absolutely killed it. It was huge, which is cool for art, but made it so impractical for anything else I wanted to do. I found out a new iPad mini was being released on October 20th. I sold my iPad Pro on the 21st. And I used the money to pay for the mini 7 on the 23rd. It’s only been a day, and while I will admit, the screen size is something I need to get used when I’m drawing, everything else about using was instantly easier. Reading? Easier. Gaming? Easier. Even just typing is easier now. I can actually sit back on the couch and hold this thing with one hand and watch something. I don’t need something to stabilize my arm so it isn’t fighting for its life after 10 minutes. I don’t regret the decision at all. It’s just so convenient

I’m inclined to agree that the iPad mini does not need the “Pro” features. For me, I have an iPad Pro 10.9 (M2) with Magic Keyboard and it’s my mobile work station. On the road or train I can edit documents, code etc. I have an older mini (gen 4?) which I use for personal stuff - morning coffee while I browse social media, read the news, do puzzles, make calls. I want a mini that fits in my hand and doesn’t break the bank. Since my old iPad mini’s battery is on the decline, I’ll likely ask Santa for a mini 7 this year…

Love your video reviews. I understand, emotionally, why everyone keeps calling for a Mini Magic Keyboard. I am a short guy with small hands, so i should have no issues with what a KB that size would be. I’ve tested KBs sold for the Mini and they uniformly suck. They’re too frakkin’ small. Size matters and we’re running up against the limitations of size here. We will not & can not get the typing experience on this form factor that we experience with the larger iPads and that we long to duplicate here. I’m typing this on the Keys-2-Go - smallest KB I can bear typing on and still more than an inch wider than the Mini - as a reminder of the experience and it still sucks. Enjoy the Mini for what it is: a premium tablet that has no aspirations to be anything else.

Perhaps it … the desktop …will become a museum piece like my old Apple IIC which I have sitting next to it. (Yes, I’ve been an Apple user since 1985 … I originally had the old Apple IIE). I started with a Mini 4, upgraded to a Mini 5 because I wanted to keep the same holder, I don’t play games except Spider-Man and FreeCell, should I spend the money to upgrade to a 6 or 7? I am 85 years old. Who knows how much longer I will have to cart it around, as much as I love to pop it in my handbag when I’m running off for the weekend. I also have the smaller phone, so do everything on my IPad as it’s easier to read and operate, even talk on if I get interrupted while I’m reading.

06:37 Stage manager (+Mx chip) is the requirement to allow an external monitor. That is why many want it (me included). iPad Mini with Mx Chip + Stage Manager: connect external keyboard and mouse, plug in external Monitor and you have a small, compact, more mobile version of an iPad with the possibility to attach a full 4K monitor as PC replacement. THE perfect device! plus: It would also make the line up complete. iPad Pro can connect external monitors iPad Air can connect extern monitors iPad mini still can't I have worked a while with my iPad Pro as desktop replacement and it is awesome, you start to love the Stage manager on this device at this point. I personally know two people who completely switched to the iPad doing all their work on the device, even some video editing and they do not want to go back. If Apple (and I doubt it will ever happen) updates iPad OS to a full functioning multitasking device or hot switchable OS with an Pad mode and a desktop mode as many professionals want, I bet my a55 the mini will be excluded as it does not support external Monitors (even if this restriction is artificial the A17Pro is as capable as the Mx chip to support one)

Like a setting that’s exclusively to the mini like aeroplane mode but for reading. Adjusting the screen to a mono greyscale, killing background processes, notifications. Extending the battery while reading for a while. I currently use the greyscale accessibility feature. But having a mini as a challenge to kindles/ kobo/ colour would be a selling point.

I think the majority of people just want the bigger screen, without ever actually having used an iPad mini (outside of looking at it at a store), to know how great it is to have that form factor. A couple years ago my friend bought iPads for her two older sons. I had an older iPad mini 4 that I offered to give her to give to her youngest son. While I was over at her house helping her set up parental controls on all of the iPads, without any provocation, she looked at the iPad mini and said, "wow, I honestly think this is the one I would personally want". I basically replied in agreement, as I've owned almost every iPad mini at this point, and love them. I bought an iPad Pro last year, but I've been fairly disappointed with it, I kind of wish I still had the iPad Mini 6 (I did keep my mini 5, though). I'm not sure the mini 7 of worth it to me just yet, but maybe Ill get one for cheap in 2 years.

My biggest concern right now is that while I would love to buy the mini 7, I wonder if Apple made such minimal changes to rush this out now only for them to do some serious upgrades within a year or two (like fixing the jelly scroll, making design changes). I want to get the best bang for my buck, but I don't know if the time to buy is now or in the future. Agggh.
@elijahdelacruz32043 ай бұрын
Agreed, a small percentage of people may want to see an iPad Mini Pro, but that’s not the main market that’s buying the iPad Mini. So not getting a magic keyboard for the iPad Mini and other pro features makes sense. I also agree that stage manager doesn’t make sense on the iPad Mini, I think that the small screen size of the iPad Mini will just make that experience too cramped and fiddly to use comfortably. Overall, I think the iPad Mini 7 is a good value especially with its quite massive spec bump. Though I would have loved to see at least a 90hz refresh on the Mini, but again that doesn’t make sense for now as even the more expensive iPad Air still has a 60hz refresh display. I think once the iPad Air line gets high refresh rate then we’ll see the Mini follow soon after. I think the way for this to make sense for Apple so as the Air won’t eat into the iPad Pro sales is for the iPad Air and iPad Mini to have a 90hz refresh rate and not 120. That will make most regular consumers happy while also making sense business wise for Apple. Then that would also potentially open the doors for 90hz on the regular non pro iPhones.

It’s simple Apple wanted to keep the prices unchanged. You start giving it “pro”features you’re going to get increased prices. I don’t think Apple thinks the mini would sell well with an entry level at $599 or more. Apple should’ve added the current chip. The same way they did 3 years ago with the mini 6. They also should’ve changed the orientation position of the FaceTime camera and added Face ID to match the other iPads. The touch ID is terrible. When it comes to upgrade from the 6 if you have one Apple is pretty much giving you $230 for the 64gb model. So it’s a fairly cheap upgrade to keep it relevant if you have a trade.

Coming from an iPad mini 5, this is a great update. Use for me is as a reader (kindle, iBooks), KZbin videos and usually use it for around two hours per day. Even though my mini 5 is about 6 years old, it’s battery and general performance is great. Want the bigger screen and larger storage. Great initial review.

My only wish is rotation cannot be set - when reclining or lying down (and working with patients/clients with limited/unstable movements) the rotation auto goes from portrait to landscape constantly and is frustrating. The original iPad I remember I could set the rotation to not have it rotate. Tim needs to talk to ME! and put this back in the iPad. Also, I should be able to turn on or off the auto shaping when pausing my pencil when taking notes - my irregular line should remain so and not go to a straighten line when I don't want it to (I'm note taking a resting my pen! - I don't need an auto shape change!).

My oldest has an original mini that still works, he doesn't use it anymore but hasn't wanted another iPad because they are all too big for what he used it for back then. This one however will probably peak his interest after all these years. Very nice review!

I don’t have an iPad looking to get one though I do have a MacBook M2 air. All I want to use the iPad for is reading, paying some bills online, and responding to emails. Should I get the iPad mini seven or the iPad mini six?

1) Most consumers/corporate sector consider this the “true” iPad because of its ideal size 2) Consumers buy this device because of its size, making it popular. Because of this, there is an incentive to improve its use. This is on top of the popular use in the corporate sector (aka aviation). 3) Other iPad’s are almost turning into glorified Mac’s (size wise) with some features reserved to the Mac’s OS. 4) To the average consumer, this is a good update. Can features, that Apple does in the iPad; could have been added to improve its ease of use and consumer/corporate satisfaction? Yes! 5) An iPad mini pro is attainable, considering that many of the “pro” features are being implemented though the lineup of iPad’s 6) Selling an iPad mini pro will likely undermine sells in other iPad’s because of its ideal size and popularity. Therefore, Apple does not have an incentive to create such device. Their goal is for you to move up the latter and spend more $$$. 7) The cost can increase, that’s for sure. But, the demand for an iPad mini pro is there (corporate and consumers), not to mention that the features already exist in the other iPad’s. Therefore, people will buy it and it will sell (regardless of a price increase).

At the 10:00 mark in your video, you answer one question I’ve been waiting to hear. Many YT reviewers mention the 5th Gen Mini. Your passing response, “a massive upgrade” is the first specific comparison I’ve heard. Second, you mentioned the Gen 7 AI capabilities, assuring the Mini a long, low profile life. I’m a slow tech adopter, but I hate buying tech domed to early obsolescence. Thanks for your opinion on both questions! BTW, I also wanted a “Pro” version. Maybe in Gen 9?

Would you recommend switching an M1 iPad Pro with the Mini 7 and a base spec Mac Mini? Don’t currently daily a Mac, currently use the iPad as a hybrid tablet/desktop with an external monitor.

I took the plunge and purchased an iPad Mini 7 and an iPad Air M2, I am getting a replacement for the mini 7 and I'm returning the Air. The reason is overheating, which I have experienced on both devices when using the Apple Pencil Pro and Apple notes. I would love to hear if you have experienced this on the recent apple devices, during your testing

personally, the thing it is missing most, is the old smart cover. the OG one where it just covered the front, and folds into a stand, and ocvers the back when you open it. LOVE that smart cover. it also keeps the ipads thing when on the go, and soooo easy to pull off when you wana use the ipad with no attachments. also, no magsafe? i dont think it needs it, but would have been a VERY nice to have feature as well. Its smal, light, and if you could just stick it to a car mount or something, man, it be nice. ps, had this had m chip with external display and everything support, mannnnnnnnnnn, i would have bought this in a heart beat. Portable workstation. ps, i REALLY want the old smart cover more than anything else. i'm hoping someone somehow designs it in china and has it on ali express or something. hate the back cover.

Frankly, I'm quite content with my 11” M4 iPad Pro as my iPad mini Pro. The size & weight aren't all that much larger than the mini and the larger screen works as well or better than the mini for reading eBooks. That said, I love my iPad mini 6 for reading eBooks and taking notes on the go. So, when I got a really good trade in value on my ancient iPad mini *5*, I used that money to buy a mini 7 because of all the features you describe (most notably more RAM, faster CPU); it should arrive shortly and I'll be putting the 18.1 RC Public Beta on it as soon as I get it. FWIW, “jelly scroll” was never an issue for me on my mini 6.

Apple to Mini fans: you still here? Here’s some crumbs…
@williamburns38233 ай бұрын
Idk.. i wouldn’t call a pro chip,double the ram and HDR 4 crumbs. They were trying to give iPad mini users an upgrade while still keeping the price low which I would guess is at least half the reason people buy the mini. A lot of people seem to be wanting a leap in upgrades without a leap in price and that’s just not gonna happen. So, they upgraded the essentials which are, the chip and the ram. I’d be grateful that they aren’t doing what Sony did and marginally improving it for almost double price like with the PS5 pro

I’d have loved option without the rear camera for less rrp. I’ve owned iPad 6th for 8 years and thinking about trading in for this but I’ve never used the rear camera once in all that time. Also if only bezels were smaller to maximize screen size and usb-c out and I think I’d jump on this product

Do you think the 128 GB version is enough for normal use?
@phutton3 ай бұрын
Normal use is subjective, if you have an iphone or another ipad, look at your current storage and there is an option to stick stuff in the cloud. I would say 128gb is more than enough for me but then if you are using it for games, lots of videos, media etc then go bigger it really does depend on your use case and if you have some insights into your other devices it may tell you about your habits.

Think of it this way. I have a 128 gig mini 4. People spent 499.00 for a mini 6 with 64 gig. There was a 150.00 difference between that and 256 gig. On the new I pad there is a 100.00 difference. I am going to buy the 256 gig as I plan to have this iPad a long time. My 128 gig mini 4 lasted 9 years. With AI, you don't know how much memory the other apps are going to eat up so you are covered in that regard.

love my ipad mini 6 for flights & travel the smaller size is great for watching videos, kindle substitute, magazines etc on a tray table & when I'm away with work in hotels for the same reasons as before but include bedside clock. Its an essential piece of my travel kit. I'd love, but don't need, a magic key board & a better camera (but tbf i generally use my phone for emails and msgs on the go & with 16 pro the iphone camera is great). However I would really to be able to attach it to a monitor when available. Not sure if the 7 is worth the jump having Apple intelligence on my phone... but we'll see!
