Here's the StratoGeezer kart with a vastly improved, simplified and tougher jack shaft assembly, plus a 48 tooth sprocket that replaces the giant 80 tooth - giving the kart more speed, while not sacrificing much torque at all.

I like the center lift when you add power. Shows the TQ is still ready to go.

When I was a kid my Dad bought us a type of mini-bike called a tote goat, it had 10 hp B&S engine, a small front wheel and a huge tractor wheel in the back. It was designed as a high torque low speed contraption my Dad thinking speed kills thought this would be a safer mini-bike. My brother found out quickly this was not the case as the designers decided to put the brakes on the center jack shaft. Nobody realized the design flaw until it surfaced while my late brother was climbing a steep hill the chain broke rendering the brakes useless. The look of surprise on his face was priceless looking at us pulling the brake lever as he sped backwards down the hill into a large patch of sticker bushes. I noticed you didn't make the same mistake.

I ended up pulling one of the keystock out of one of the rear drive wheels. So one wheel is now providing power and the other turns freely to give me a better turn radius. It's not a perfect solution but it works fine.

look into a vacuum operated fuelpump using that alowes you to put the tank below the level of the carb like under the steering between youre knees the vacuum pulses it needs come from the intake manifold

That sprocket also gave you more ground clearance. interesting the way the suspension wants to tuck forward on acceleration. Good traction on initial acceleration. Your anti squat must be around 200 :) To adjust that you will have to have 4 links I think. Possibly a good 3 link.

similar gearing to my home-made kart, I just had a 9hp but i could do about 34mph flat out..In the winter snow i changed drive pulley so It topped about 28mph.

@faintinggoatsproductions5678 жыл бұрын
Turning was a problem. I had to let one back tire spin freely and independently on the axel, to get any decent turn radius. Lesson learned.
@minorpyro698 жыл бұрын
+UNIVERSALMINDBAND The setup he has is the equivalent of a locked differential. but in the gokart world it is called a live axle.

hay there Bob.... if you want more speed out of that go kart you have change that little bitty sprocket on your jackshaft to something upwards of 17 tooth maybe a 20 that will in turn turn your axle a lot faster also it would allow you to use more of the horsepower directly from the torque converter. I also have a couple of videos of my own buggy that I have built so you have some better ideas that you can work off of if you want.

It's not that fast. Faster than it was, but not unsafe. But it does still have enough torque to spin the back tires, which are golf cart knobby tires.

@catfisher4207 жыл бұрын
if you have a 12 tooth jack shaft and a 48 tooth sprocket then you are running a 4:1 gear ratio and your kart should do 53 MPH so with the torque converter it should be getting up to about 65. It sounds like your motor cant handle that drastic of gearing and will never hit top speed. it sounds like you are only at about 3000rpm when your kart tops out. Get dual carbs and dual exhaust(straight pipes) remove the governor and that puppy will go!
@twistedmichigander49075 жыл бұрын
@J M, it's a twin cylinder engine.............. two heads, each with an exhaust and INTAKE port, allowing the use of dual carbs. Others have already done it, soy boy (it's been done on single cylinder engines too). By the way, when attempting to insulting someone's intelligence, you should try your best to appear intelligent........you failed.

It functions Primarily as a reduction mechanism, but also, it's necessary if you are using a torque converter. The torque converter is a better alternative to the old go kart/mini bike centrifugal clutch, for low end power.
