Wow, Murphy remembered NJ Transit exists finally. Shame the infrastructure has to be close to collapsing and passengers endure an entire summer nightmare first. As usual though, they are too slow on their feet. 2 years to conduct a study, another 5+ years to actually fix anything!
@andrewreynolds49499 сағат бұрын
The “studies” are probably the full design work. The DOT’s construction estimate in the 2020 project approval was 7 years, so 5 sounds pretty good to me.

What do you mean "finally"? NJ Transit has gotten the most progress in a long long time under Murphy, he's done anything but forget that it exists.

I don’t mind the toll. But can they start toll by mail so I don’t have to wait in line or pay the racket that is EZ Pass?

EZ Pass is cheaper for most folks. It's just pay-by-mail with a transponder.

Replacing those bridges is needed and costly. It has to be done. Millions of people in New Jersey need them.

And the NJ officials are worried about the MTA and stopping congestion pricing! But they just approved a hike for tolls 😂😂😂 the irony of it all NJ Transit rail service needs infrastructure. Just like how MTA needs improved infrastructure upgrades , buses etc….
@andrewreynolds494919 сағат бұрын
I think the “studies” are actually the final design work, which still needs to be completed. According to Amtrak’s page on the project they already have the concept design and environmental approval finished. Two years may be for funding reasons, to let them finish Portal North first.

they raise the fare in the summer for NJT infrastructure where is all this money going ? they raise the fares and somehow it does go to NJT
@trevorthefoamer22019 сағат бұрын
The Tolls are state owned. NJT is also state owned. If it was a private company, it would be trickier to put toll funds into it. However thats clearly not the case, as they're both state owned.

It’s NJ’s fault that they haven’t fixed their infrastructure. Especially the NCS.

Why?

@@cptyolowaffle everyone knows the trains need work. its a shame that the governments have been neglecting US train service. NJ Transit could be epic at delivering suburbanites to NYC/PHL, but instead officials went with the easy way out by building roads instead (causing accidents, deaths, traffic) .-.

Incompetency!!! Wth do you have trees next to electricity?! They take down power lines and tracks. Why is there Only a one way in/out from nj-nyc? Incompetent. Why are rails on neighborhoods not protected from trespassing?? Incompetent. Why do you have trains from the 70s running during rush hour? Of course they will break down. USA need to take a hard look at how Japan keeps their trains reliable
@yuriydee36 минут бұрын
Call it the Trump Tunnel/Train/whatever and let him get all the credit idc, but lets just get this infrastructure fixed up and improved. Once Portal North is build, work should immediately start on Portal South (its the second bridge to allow 4 tracks into NYC) to save money since the contractors can use the same equipment already there.
@mbbno6 сағат бұрын
End EZPass and end cashless tolling. This is an illegal boondoggle. Much like everything else in life you should be required to pay at the time of service. You pay the toll when you go through. And 3 & 8¢ toll increases? How about 5 & 10¢?

I have a better idea, Scrap those overhead wires and replace them with diesel electric locomotives then you don't have to bother with replacing those costly overhead wires saving hundreds of not thousand of dollars with the rapid advances in technology diesel engines are getting cleaner more efficient and Eco friendly.
@mirzaahmed658911 сағат бұрын
You can't run diesel trains into Penn Station.
@JMVX11 сағат бұрын
You can. All 3 railroads already do. Just need to extend the 3rd Rail to Newark or use the wires between Newark and New York. A much bigger concern is the full replacement/repairs of the historic tunnels and the opening of the 2 new tunnels. The wire is fine just need to be replaced with the modern constant tension wire. Little investment in the infrastructure that has its beginning traced to an era pre civil war. It’s been used and abused. When handed over to Amtrak was also not in the best of shape 50yrs ago. There has been a lot of work done. Maybe DOGE can cut the red tape so Amtrak can get what it needs. Like it or not. I rather my tax dollars going to revamp Amtrak and other major infrastructure projects than funding some politicians Wallet.

@@JMVX Amtrak needs to be privatized why should they get my hard earned tax dollars, Ironically the new DOGE that Elon Musk is proposing might get rid of Amtrak by privatizing them maybe by breaking them up into several new regional rail companies.

Amtrak needs to find a secure funding source and be permitted to invest in it. Maybe through line side real Estate? But it cannot function solely on the government dole. Some kind of PPP had to come to fruition. Amtrak is charted to be for profit. But lost the mail Contracts when the freight railroads sued. They could Run LCL non hazmat Frieght. But again the class 1s would stop that. With the exception of the NEC. The railroad route owners need to operate the passenger for Amtrak under contract. With the government subsidizing the passenger losses, and passenger equipment. This would also provide incentives to make revenues off LCL freight, on board amenities/accommodations and to keep the trains moving.
