I would be interested in knowing if the BMS needs some type of active cooling at high currents. Welcome to the 3D printing world, I got one for the same reasons you did; hit me up if you need some CAD work done.

I'd like to know if it implements the controls for DVCC, while some systems communicate back to the cerbo controller, they dont all form a closed loop control. So i would love to know if they can communicate the charge current limit or not, and whether or not multiple in a stack will contribute or negate from the charge current, if i use your shelf as an example (btw we used yours as an example to build our :), so thanks for the motivation) will a single shelf saying it didnt want charge prevent the other shelves from getting it ?

I'm wondering if you can use two BMS in parallel on the same battery bank. For redundancy and for separating loads of different priority. I already have a JK_B2A BMS and i'm interested if i could use this new one in parallel with that.

Will you be able to test multiples of these in a parallel pack and tell us how the software handles config of individual boards?

@@Default3568I dont see why you couldn’t, so long as both BMS’s aren’t pulling more amps than ur battery can safely deliver at any one time, probably not the way I would go tho, if one BMS can handle the load ur putting on it I would keep the second BMS on the shelf as a spare & get a bit more creative with the rest of the system.

Hi mate, it's not been the best day for input here on the Adelaide Plains today, but my #1 system, the system that runs my house, off grid, stand alone Solar is showing 0.003 mv deviation after working hard all day. I love the looks of this JK bms but I'm getting another EEL battery box and another 16 EVE cells with a Seplos BMS, that combination works just fine for me. II took weeks of tweaking to get the Seplos BMS right, together with a Neeeeeeeeey active balancer. I'm in a position where I spend more time away from home than I care to but I'm using Solar Assistant to monitor the systems and it all works just fine. Loving your videos, keep it up Andy, you're doing good.

Thanks a lot for sharing Keith. The Seplos BMS with the NEEY sound like a good combination which will keep the packs balanced. I would do the same. Yeah, Seplos BMS can be tricky to setup until they work as you want them. But then, rock solid.

I am currently running 4- JK BMS's, I'm relatively happy with them, however, 1) I would appreciate better communication when they push out the updates, those of you who have experienced some of these know what I'm talking about. 2) I wish they had a U.S. based store to handle issues WHEN the BMS heads south and requires replacement. Shipping to China costs more than the replacement of the unit.

The best and cleanest way to replace another BMS with this one in a DIY box is to replace the entire front plate with new cutouts and holes for mounting the BMS. Laser cutting isn't that expensive and it sure can be found locally everywhere. But I suppose if there is a demand for it, there are plenty of DIY solutions, but also plenty of ready-made replacement front plates on various e-shops. It's going to be a bit more complicated with those round corner boxes. But I'm sure there will be DIY boxes just for this BMS, so just wait and no question there will be, but when will they be available.
@OffGridGarageAustralia
@OffGridGarageAustralia Жыл бұрын
Yeah, I expect this as well. The front plate of the MASON box is not straight flat on the back site and has mounts for the fuse for example. So, there needs to be some welding done as well. Replacing the front plate would be the best solution. You can even get such services from China directly if you deliver the drawings.

It would really be great to see the JK-BMS firmware (and associated test suite) being made open-source. This would really be a stand-out feature, aid debugging of BMS quirks and enable (slightly better) validation of what is deployed. I do understand that making incorrect changes to the firmware might at best cause the device to brick, however that is still the case for a firmware update released by Jikong. It probably will not happen because of ownership (presumably Jikong subcontract part of the design process), but it is nice to dream!

😂 Enjoyed your excitement! I purchased my JK bms over a year ago and I haven't seen your videos on "industrial" bms models. So a current limiting feature, and that one attached red cable are not obvious functions to me. Can you provide some explanation on these features in your next video?
@CollinBaillie
@CollinBaillie Жыл бұрын
I think the understanding of "industrial" would be: A BMS which would be used by professionals in the battery industry, to build battery packs for their customers. Hence industrial. It's a solution that offers "all" features you might want to include in a battery pack. Obviously, you don't have to be working in the industry with a customer base to be able to build a pack with these. Consider the Seplos Mason BMS, or the Gobel Power's Pace BMS that Andy has reviewed a lot in his recent videos. These are "industrial" BMSs. The very same that he compares the JK to in this video. The current limiting is a safety protection feature. If the current (draw or charge) exceeds a limit you define, it will switch over to the current limit circuit, so that the battery pack (including the BMS) is protected, but you do not lose power by disconnection as was common in earlier BMS implementations. The single red wire, possibly used to tap power for a device which you want to keep out of the main current path. You don't want to draw 250a through an LCD display for example. Or perhaps it could be for voltage measurement. Look up 4-wire Kelvin Method for Voltage and Current measurement. It could be a "partial" (or alternative) implementation of that. Edit: I rewatched the beginning of the video. It looks like perhaps Jikong may be using disconnect for the main path of current flow, and this single red wire is the current path when using the current limit circuit. Something like that.
@ajvz77
@ajvz77 Жыл бұрын
@@CollinBailliethat is interesting. I have been considering a second circuit myself. A primary load circuit for all normal loads, and a second circuit just for low power applications like running a modern, and sensor monitoring.

Nice new piece of hardware! As for the mounting it shouldn't be too hard to create a model and 3d print something, not only as adapter for the display but also for the main board....but a simple metal bar with matching holes for the board is also pretty easy to create (its also much faster to do). The question is how much space is in the case. Now I'm looking forward to see which 3D printer you bought.
@OffGridGarageAustralia
@OffGridGarageAustralia Жыл бұрын
There is enough space in the boxes. Metal work would take a lot longer than creating a 3D CAD file and print it. At least for me as I don't have a metal workshop.
@j.w.u.5728
@j.w.u.5728 Жыл бұрын
@@OffGridGarageAustraliaHi Andy, it doesn't have to be fancy. Two simple bars of metal (maybe aluminium) with holes matching the screwholes in the case (2-3 holes for the top row and the same for the bottom) + 2x 2-3 threaded holes to screw the new board on the bar. At least that's what I get from what I've seen in the video. Depending how "bombenfest" you would like to have it it's either 2 or 3 mounting points on each metal bar. 😉 A 3d model is also quite simple. For the size/orientation is depends on the build volume of your 3d printer. I'm looking forward to see what you'll come up with. I currently struggle with a complex 3d design with different roudings that morph into each other to fix my headphones because of a broken plastic part...this evening I'll check the first prototype. Surprisingly so far no one else created a replacement part and uploaded it the the know places although the part is apparently identical on both successor models and was probably planned to break at exactly this point. Other than that I hope to work on my solar installation (12x 405Wp) on the garage this weekend...depending on the weather condition (waiting for one piece of hardware + change the angle of the panels for the winter to get a little bit more energy). Greetings from northwest Germany...not sunny but so far at least dry (the last couple of days were "Land unter")!

Now this is a BMS that has the potential to replace the Batrium BMS’s if they can get a few things right! And I hope they can!! A coupe of things I would want to see is the locally attached display be able to show a bar graph much like how Batrium does. With a bar graph representing each individual cell, you can see so much more information than just one value at a time like voltage. I would also like to see their desktop software be able to display all daisy chained batteries in a common interface at once. So if you have 4 packs of 16S each, you should be able to see them all and interact with them as a whole or still individually. So if I needed to put a pack into “maintenance mode”, I should be able to set it in the software (and from Venus OS) on that individual pack and the midgets should stop the flow of power in and out of the battery or as defined by the “maintenance mode” settings for that pack. Also, you have one set of values to configure and manage for the whole system and not on each individual bms when they are all daisy chained together. And if they loose comms at some point, they should continue to operate under the last known settings provided by the ‘master’. Lastly, the BMS should support all common voltages without having to buy another BMS if you need to change voltages. I.e. 12, 24, 36, & 48. If they could do these things, while still being able to connect to Victron, that would be impressive and I would replace all of my Batrium BMS’s with it! Because the one thing Batrium doesn’t have is power flow control. I.e. Power in but not out mosfets.

I expect we can enjoy the usual in-depth testing in a multi-episode video series. :) I'm very interested in those programmable customisable relays that could be used to program the heating or cooling the battery pack depending on the battery temperature. The original JK-BMS had versions with a heating function, does the Inverter JK-BMS have this heating function? In addition to the possibility to connect to the BMS using a computer cable and Bluetooth application, in the future I would like to have the possibility (future revisions of this BMS) to be able to connection to the BMS through Wi-Fi from anywhere in the world where internet is available with full access for monitoring and settings. I would also like very much to be able to easily connect Inverter JK-BMSs to Home Assistant with full monitoring and settings, I suspect that the possibility of integration into VenosOS-VRM and Solar Assistant will be standard, as there is this option for the previous JK-BMS.
@OffGridGarageAustralia

That would be great if we can get external access to the BMS and also full integration in automation systems. That part should be the easiest. JK was talking about a full integration to Venus OS with both directions of communication. I'll definitely do more testing with this BMS and also more videos. I want to see if this is the one...

The relays need to open when any charge disconnect event happens. This could then be used to cut the field circuit to an alternator and so prevent diode damage on LifePo4 systems that are fitted to boats and campers. At the moment people are doing bodges involving LifePo4/lead acid hybrids as a budget solution to protect their alternators but a 12V/24V BMS with a disconnect relay would provide a much cleaner solution.

Am I missing something??? 200A discharge, but only 10A charging limit? The only references to charge current limiting in the datasheet seem to disagree. One spec shows 10A the other 25A. What do they mean by "Parallel charging current limit"? Is this referring only to the balancing function? I have 48V 1200Ah LiFePO4 bank and need up to 110A charging capability.
@ВладиславМартишев
@ВладиславМартишев Жыл бұрын
Imagine you have 10% SOC battery and 100% SOC battery. What happens when you will connect them in parallel? One will charge another with huge current. So it is why 10amps parallel current limiter required
@evil17
@evil17 Жыл бұрын
@@ВладиславМартишевahh, I was wondering what that was about, thanks. I guess this is a good idea/feature to have, but I am a bit sceptical of the need for it, as Andy has shown & I have witnessed myself, these large currents dont last long & aren’t that large anyhow compared to normal charging and discharging currents when running microwaves, air cons, air fryers, etc from inverters, those initial currents don’t seem that large. I hooked a flat 24v 5kw battery to another full SOC battery of same capacity once to wake up a BMS, and when it woke up it was pulling 80+amps for a short while & then went down fairly quickly, it probably spiked much higher for a very short time before i got to see the amp draw, but it wasn’t that drastic really, the microwave & coffee machine can make it spike up to 140A or more.

The current limiter will kick in when over current protection is reached. Other BMS would now turn off altogether, these BMS all have a 10A/20A current limiter and just reduce the current. They check after a minute until the current is below the over current protection.

I would like to know the benefits of this new 'industrial' JK BMS over the physically smaller older JK BMS's. I am running three older 16S/200A/2A JK BMS's. Each is controlling a 16S2P pack and they all seem to work well so wonder what I will be missing out on with the new version.
@CollinBaillie
@CollinBaillie Жыл бұрын
The selling point of this new BMS is its ability to communicate with and be controlled by your inverter. A more integrated component of an energy storage system. Also communication between multiple packs using the same BMS board. Maybe JK have finally implemented Andy's "single pane" management console, so you can tweak settings on individual BMS modules from a single common connection between PC and Batteries. Let's hope Andy has more than one of these new BMS boards and enough cells to test a multi-pack setup.
@nigelcharles511

Thanks for the info. Two of my three packs are in trailers taking power between locations so each pack is being charged and discharged independently. Although the benefits of the new BMS are impressive, they are probably not a game changer in my particular application. It will never the less be interesting to see what we all learn as Andy takes us on a journey of discovery.

It's great that you're getting a 3D printer. It'll be a great tool for your DIY projects, but for complete DIY designs you'll need to learn some 3D CAD if you don't already know it, and to learn how to slice well in slicer. I'd be very interested to know what 3D printer you chose. Perhaps there will be an Andy 3D printer channel in the future :)
@OffGridGarageAustralia

Printer has arrived today and I watched a few TinkerCAD tutorials. Seems very straight forward. I think the printer can handle the STL files directly, so no slicing necessary. But I will find out shortly, I guess...
@tiborchren
@tiborchren Жыл бұрын
@@OffGridGarageAustralia Every 3D printer needs a slicer. The 3D shape is created in CAD, saved as STL, and the slicer cuts the STL model into individual layers and provides the 3D printer with technological settings according to the used material: temperatures, number of perimeters, percentage of infill, shape of infill, perimeter and infill speeds and acceleration, supports, and much more. There are many free and payable slicers. Some 3D printers have slicer program from the manufacturer. These settings exist for every 3D printer and material combination and are fine to start with, but usually need to be slightly modified - fine-tuned because every piece of the same 3D printer is a little different and everyone has their own local conditions - temperature and humidity.
