in this episode Richard says that he hopes that packing and gluing and ballasting will hold the rails firm on the curves without pinning down. In my layout in the garden shed we suffered with geographic tectonic shift.. The contraction and expansion of the rails with hot summers and cold winters combined with the slight swelling of the modular board base resulted in some serious land movement on my gradual station entrance curves. The lesson i take away is pinning the rail is as essential as the use of marine ply sub bases. Less is more.+ but but with five layers to rehouse I'm now busy building a bigger 18x10 shed to take the radius 4 and 5 curves. Thank you Richard; if you can do it then we can all do it. Great video series.

Hi Richard, Looking good🙂I have a suggestion for the track joints for your super elevated section. 1st step. Try and give the track a natural curve over the joint so when cut it doesn't spring back straight. 2nd step. When happy with the curve and super elevation use araldite to hold the track in place over the joint making sure it comes up to base of the track and add ballast once happy and press it into the araldite, leave the araldite to cure overnight. 3rd step. Once the araldite has cured carefully cut through the track and araldite at the joint. I have used this method with great success. For extra strength use a brass pin with the top filed flat, I knock these in below the track and solder to them. Regards, David.

Great modelling, however I'm surprised that you've not modelled Hadley Wood considering the tunnel is said location. With the heritage line you had options for station and running, plus you could have added a section for a small goods siding/yard. This would give you the best of both worlds, mainline running, stopping on the mainline and an option for shunting to keep the punters interested. Looking forward to seeing more videos

Don't worry about longer trains than platform. Most trains now have SDO (selective door opening) where only the doors on fully platformed coaches are released. Trains without SDO would also be able to use the shorter platform, in this case the excess coaches will have been Locked Out of Use. Keep up the good wor, looking good.

Great update - good to see it evovle and develop. With space issues on the mainline station, why not go for "slow lines only" platforms (like Sandy or Arlesley) which then would allow a curve platform and nice fast running shots of the 91s etc speeding through? Also gives some play value in that you can have trains coming off the ML onto the SL for stopping.... The heritage line side can then have an overbridge from the ML station and stairs down to the lower level island platform for the heritage line, kind of a LNER meet GCR "New Junction" :) That banking looks tight on the tunnel portals!

Hi Richard! 🙂 Well it seems that Operation Interchange is now well under way! 🎉 🎊 In terms of the building, I’d be tempted to treat the mainline station as a ‘modern image’ rebuild sometime between the 1970s-80s that has had a subsequent ‘tarting up’ of questionable success (like Stafford, Peterborough or, indeed, Thirsk!) and is a mere shadow of former glories. The heritage line could be accessed through either an adjoining bridge or an old subway (that is left over from the station in its former guise) which emerges from the retaining wall into a platform. This can either be the sole platform or have one on the other side accessible by a level crossing at the end of the station, which itself would make sense as this could carry the road access to the mainline station (via an under bridge) and a car park 🤔 Once again, I hope that all kind of makes sense…though I suspect after I sent you down this rabbit hole the last thing you want is another 🤷🏻♂️ If you want I’ll happily draw it again 😜 Lulu was clearly very at work thinking in her basket, so it is good that she got some much needed ‘down time’ in the garden 😄🖤 Cheers mate, always great so see an update 🍀👍🍻

Very impressive, you've certainly cracked on! I have two niggles though. To me the tunnels just don't look right. Looking straight on it appears the track almost does a right angle and the loco looks like to bearly misses the tunnel wall. Would it not have been better to bring the tunnels out more on to the straight track. That way the curve would have been hidden. One more thing. Why have you used wooden sleeper points on the concrete track? Concrete ones are available. Having said all that I look forward to seeing it at exhibitions. It's definitely a credit too you Richard.
@NewJunction Жыл бұрын
The tunnel needs to be moved forward ever so slightly so hopfully that will help. Point wise you can't get code 75 concrete points and half the ones up norf are still wooden 😂
@csxrensville5105 Жыл бұрын
@New Junction I'm sure moving the tunnels will help. You could even stagger the entrances, eh think about that! 😃 As for wooden points, Bamfurlong junction opposite my house is all concrete trackwork. That must be the half that has them. 😃 Peco do them, Hattons have them in stock. Although for some reason Peco only so them in medium radius.

Is that dodgy baseboard joint around 3 minutes? The cement wagons bounce a little. I tend to solder the rails to screws at the baseboard joints.
