I think they missed the chance to make a multimode radio with DMR, C4FM and D-Star... However, a few years ago Kenwood said that if that's what we wanted, it would be easy for them to make such a radio... Kenwood, we are still waiting!

On the D 74 when you’re in memory mode, is there anyway to have a display frequency instead of callsign of the repeaters?

It will be interesting to always have the name of the frequency AND the identification of the frequency. Not just either one or the other.

Hisses like a police scanner… these radios should have a much better sound… they should come with closer sound of a Motorola than a cheap sounding scanner… especially when you’re listening to analog… your the first person too mention this problem… that HISS Bugs the shit out of me..thank u sir for mentioning it.. can’t believe it doesn’t bug anyone else here.😝

@@w6gps the desirable thing is not to increase the capacity of the battery but to make it drain less. the 74 loses half the battery in heat (in RX)

I bought a D74 new, so I imagine I'll be upgrading about when the D80 comes out. *LOL* Truthfully, I don't see that the D75 adds enough in the way of functionality/features for me to shell-out that much money......again. I'd much rather put it towards an Icom IC-705. The D75 looks to be another winner, however. A 'better' D74, with _hopefully_ longer battery life.

Sorry but Kenwood TH-D74 was such a hot mess that I given up on Kenwood as a brand. They cannot rely on old hans to keep them afloat. 73, NG8M.

I believe you're correct. This is a dismal showing and certainly not worth the "announcement" like new with innovating features. A great radio I'm sure but I'm not giving them a passing grade for amateur radio.
