It’s cute when a kitten or cat explores its new home for the first time. My cat did it, and even though he was two years old, he was filled with curiosity like the kitten. He was a lot more confident in leaving the carrier though.

The cage is a good idea, but the best way to introduce cats is to put them in different rooms for 2 or 3 days, so they smell each other but don't meet. Then exchange bedding, put the new cats bedding in the living room for example - more smell exchange, then introduce them, the new cat in a cage for a couple hours (a big cage is better than a carrier, with food, water litter box inside), and finally let them together.
