All though what you could have done, is pulled the 6 pin connector off the pins on the KS0 and flipped it upside down, then regular 6 pin cables could be used as the positive and negative would now be on the correct sides of the connector. I think Molex makes a reverse connector as well.
@tech-ishbrad18311 ай бұрын
that's what I did to mine. also the pcb layout allows for two 12v and 3 gnd. but he wasn't modding it, technically. just a repair that looked a lot like a mod lol

#1 Awesome video VeteranMiner!
@tech-ishbrad18311 ай бұрын
once you mount the 6pin female piece, while it's still warm you can pull straight out and remove the plastic with the pins staying in place, flip it, then slide it back in position so it has the correct pinout. that's what I did with mine so it can share a psu with one of my antminers. also, you can give it 2x 12v pins and 3x gnd pins. with the 3rd pin towards the outside edge (12v side) would connect to ground so dont populate it.

Dont you want to put like a fuse? If it blows it will blow the fuse?
@TheVeteranMiner11 ай бұрын
The cable that was made will be apart of that unit forever. There would be no reason for a fuse.
@OvalboreTech11 ай бұрын
nicely done Dave -- any luck getting a cable with a buck converter in it so keep voltage higher? Ive seen so many KS0s melting with over current on the VRM from the lower input voltage. wild how well that lined up!
@TheVeteranMiner11 ай бұрын
I can make the cable but the buck converter gets so hot. Would have to put a fan on it but would make a good video maybe
@OvalboreTech11 ай бұрын
@@TheVeteranMiner I figured that would be an issue, bummer. wonder if its possible to incorporate that sort of thing with larger dissipation blocks on a server breakout board instead of in the cable. a billet box made of al to clamp over the converter though on the cable.. it should in theory work! either way, I like the nitty gritty stuff. keep it comin.

@Dan_Rugs11 ай бұрын
Why they went with a barrel plug in the first place is mind numbing.
@dorkin_aint_easy9 ай бұрын
I saw you pulled the other pins out, if they pins are removable, couldn't you leave the pins as is then flip the plastic portion of the 6pin upside down and avoid having to make a special cable?
@TheVeteranMiner9 ай бұрын
Yes if you flip the plastic connector the polarity would be correct 💪🚀🚀🚀

The barrel connector can hold up to overclocks if you are running the correct voltage of 19V because the amperage would be lower. Running at 12V increases the amperage above the what the barrel connector can handle. Also if you do the math, by lowering the voltage from 19v to 12v the you are increasing the amperage by 4-5 amps.
@Miner_00111 ай бұрын
Thats the reason I buyed a laptop 180w /19v supply. I use 145w at 285gh , 340, 360 is to much and in time will die in my opinion!
@ratedrawr141111 ай бұрын
Im new to all this, but whats the whole point of putting a 6 pin instead of the barrel??? More power???
@TheVeteranMiner11 ай бұрын
The barrel connector is connected to a laptop power supply. Laptop power supplys are not meant to be on 24/7 . A 6pin connector is designed for power all the time.

Is the same issue likely to occur with the conservative 280 GH OC ? Also the issue is not just exclusive to the Barrel-to-6pin right? Could it happen just as easily with my current setup - 230 watt laptop PSU ? (which has been fine so far). I ask because I would really like to join all 4 of mine into a server PSU via your Barrel-to-6pin. But I run the 280 GH OC. Thank you for your service to this country and great content.
@TheVeteranMiner11 ай бұрын
The biggest issue is there is not enough data to support what will happen long term with OC on these units.
@IIKings21111 ай бұрын
I totally agree, I think most have the mindset of making as much yield as possible short term, thinking that the miner won't be profitable enough long term anyway. So I went for the lower OC as a compromise. But even that may become an issue. @@TheVeteranMiner
