If you can spend the extra time, I would love to see more from the supply. As always a great video!

I have had mine for a couple of years now and I am very happy with them. The Rigol has not been used since.

I'm a fan of Owon and have a few of their bits and pieces and was looking at the lab PSU, but found a DP832 serial number dated May 2020, lightly used, mint condition for around $200 US.... and upgraded the firmware to 832A... So have put my Owon on hold for the time being.

Very nice. I don't "need" a full review, but I would certainly watch one. I am thinking these are a much better value than the Rigol.

I also like Riogol en send quite a bit on equipment for them but I agree with you it seem to me they got arrogant because of market share with some good equipment. And I see this with many Chinese products lately, I think brands like Owon is fighting for maket share and is now the upcoming good value for the price. Lately I am in need for power supplys that can do more than your typical 30v supplys. I was surprised with your choice thinking Agelint or some high end manufacturers. Keep us updated on these Owons performance.

Jerry, Here's my vote for more on this power supply. I'm also interested in your thoughts on Owon over Rigol in general, especially from the viewpoint of someone building up a selection of test gear in a very limited budget. If Rigol can't be trusted to properly stand behind their equipment, then I'd even be willing to spend more $ and *a lot more time to be able to afford* better equipment, though if Owon (or equal) is better _and_ less expensive, then I'd spend my money there.

I have been considering a Siglent supply since I am very happy with my Siglent gear and support from Siglent. However this OWON one looks interesting.

Yes I did consider the Siglent SPD supplies. They look fine but the OWON goes to 60V while the SPD only goes to 32V and I decided that if I was going to the trouble of replacing the bench supplies and testing a new type then I may as well try the OWON units as they seem to give most bang per buck (hopefully not literally) but if 32V is enough for what you need then the SPD units may be fine. I have started testing the OWON units and so far cannot fault them. I also prefer the more sensible key layout to the dumb (in my opinion) RIGOL keys. I have only been using the OWON units for a few hours and already they feel more 'natural' than the RIGOL which I never got used to. Note that I have no vested interest in trying to promote OWON units or put anyone off RIGOL supplies, I am simply giving my personal preference. You could of course spend much more on an Agilent (as I have) but I figured that giving advice which amounted to 'spend loads to get something good' was not very useful.

For anybody reading in the future, the mid-range GW Instek power supplies can often be found used for reasonable prices & are usually well built. The GPD-3303S should be available for under $200 if you wait a bit.

Can the channels be stacked to get 60V from a 3063?

Thanks for the intro to this supply and manufacturer. Definitely would like to see more details when you have a chance. Is there an all output on/off ability? Wasn’t clear from the manual. Is chan three isolated as well?
@JerryWalker001
@JerryWalker001 3 жыл бұрын
Yes all 3 channels are fully isolated. There are a number of ways that the channels can be controlled together although there is not a dedicated ALL button. You can however set channel tracking with a 1:1 so turning channel 1 on will also then turn on channel 2. There are other tracking options and they seem to work very well so the supply can be setup as 0-60/3A + 0-60/3A + 0-6/3A or 0-60/6A + 0-6/3A or 0-120/3A + 0-6/3A

New sub here after viewing your impressive Rigol DP832 Repair series. I do wonder if this series has been made known to Rigol and/or have they contacted you in anyway about the PSU. Yes, I'm surprised at your next lab PSU pick. Figured you'd go high-end this time around. I also enjoyed your videos on the Riden/RD Tech Buck controllers. Looking forward to future videos in general.

Thanks for subscribing. I run my own development company and the power supplies I normally use cost several thousand £ each but I try to give the best 'value for money' advice in my videos. Most people would not want to spend a lot of money on a supply, especially someone getting into electronics so hopefully the videos may help.It is too easy to spend too much money on equipment that is not really needed (at first anyway ?). No Rigol never contacted me but it seems that they were aware of this fault as feedback on the video seems to indicated that they introduced a similar 'fix' on newer supplies but they never bothered to tell existing users (which is why I switched to a different brand). So far I cannot fault the OWON supplies and I never liked the Rigol panel layout.

I almost bought that same supply a few weeks ago. I went with a different owon supply though

Might be good to put the model name in title or description. People might miss this when searching for reviews of it. I got a RD6018 after watching your videos as my 1st and hopefully last psu. Was considering doing a linear modification same as yours but the switching supply is very quiet (low audibe noise) so I got lucky. Would be interesting to see a comparison of transformers from this to your modified Riden.

The reason for not putting the model in the description or title is so that I could reveal it in the video. Putting it in the description or title would spoil the surprise which is the purpose of the video. If I make a review video for this supply then I would use the model number.

It's beefy. Rigol has just one piss-poor TO220 as a pass element per channel. Screen update is rather slow though.

I have some PS i modded to move the earth from the middle, ugh non standard posts are so annoying why do they do it!
@JerryWalker001
@JerryWalker001 3 жыл бұрын
Yes I do not really like the posts although they seem to work OK but they just feel cheap. I may end up replacing them but so far the rest of the testing is going very well and double the output of the RIGOL which is useful when working on some older equipment. The noise and ripple level is very low.
