The Hofner is such a gorgeous, sexy instrument 😎 New strings...one of the best Things You DID Today; good to do Anytime At All. Tell Me Why I didn't recognize the 3rd song, must Be Chains on my memory. Oh, now I know, I think...Don't Ever Change? Norby, don't ever change...keep making these videos 🧡

wow, those are beautiful Beatle arrangements. 😊 I'm intrigued by them. You've got a sound like from SGT Pepper goin on in the background of Thing's We Said Today' if I'm allowed to say that. What was the effect ?

Can I ask how you knew where to relocate the floating bridge? Also, what is that tube of polish you used to clean up the body and headstock?
@NorbyHofner3 жыл бұрын
Bridge position is marked by the lighter lacquer spots: you can see them. And re-positioning by tuning and listening carefully. The oil is Viol (Thomann) thx for watching

Are the La Bella Flatwounds better ? I have the problem with a dead E string with my pyramids.

At the moment I'm using the Hofner (pyramid?) flats on all my Beatle basses.

What is the ideal height of strings on the Hofner?
@NorbyHofner3 ай бұрын
Very personal i guess. Paul uses a rather high action. I think i'm using a quite average height. Just a matter of what you want and finding comfortable
@pedroV20033 ай бұрын
@@NorbyHofner thanks so much for the response. I had heard that Macca likes the action set high. I ask because I recently bought my first two Hofner (I've been playing since the mid 60's but could never afford one). I bought a '69 Rooftop and a Contemporary Club bass with the tailpiece, controls and pickup switched out to German versions. Both basses are set up and intonated perfectly but I feel like when I dig in on the Cavern bass the sound seems a bit choked off. The action is extremely low and I thought maybe if I raise the action up just a tad it might solve the issue. Do you think this might help? And if so how would I do so. P.S. In case it makes a difference, the Cavern bass is fitted with LaBella flatwounds and the Rooftop is fitted with those black strings that Macca used at that time (don't know the make).

I've seen those knobs where did u get those ?

Those knobs were on an old 62 control panel that I got a while ago

I'm very confused. It's a lefty bass. You play left handed. And yet, the strings are upside down. I scrolled down in the comments assuming someone else would point this out and ask the questions, but there were none. New to the channel, so it has probably been answered elsewhere. But I was very, very confused. Interesting restring method.

@@NorbyHofner Thanks. I have a 500/1 from 1976, and it has black knobs. I'm thinking of replacing them with the standard "tea cups" (spare part to new models). I enjoy your videos, and hope you keep on posting.

@@monsieurb6869 Thanks. That shouldn't have happened. I reckon they would have replaced it if you'd told them. If I were running customer services, I'd send you a replacement string straight away with a request for you to return the broken one for investigation and quality control purposes and on receiving it I'd send you a free pack of strings for your trouble.
