My Grandparents the O'Rourke's lived there in the Long Row, with my Mother and all of her brothers and sisters.....many tragic stories and how tough life was growing up there, the beauty we see today by the Clyde was invisible to my mother as she was to bring up her family as the oldest girl at the age of 10 years old after her Mother had passed way after the 11th birth...... my grandfather was a Coal Man and was feared in Lanark some say, he may have had reason, he served in the army during the First World War and other campaigns in Africa and Turkey, he joined at the age of 16 and came back a different man in 1919.

A totally discusting place, while the place itself is of some interest. Their Facebook page is definitely full of lies. For one thing it clearly shows an outdoor market which is no longer there. False advertising in my book. The gift shop is overpriced and to be honest there really ain't that much there. My advice give it a miss especially as there are now parking charges. Discusting who ever is in charge needs their arse kicking. Update today 7th September Prince Charlie visited the place. Lanark pipe band was there lovely however why wasn't our Town Crier there, he is after all on officer of the town and does much to promote both lanark and new lanark. Personally I think it's a disgrace.
