Happy New Year to you all! Thanks for all the support and interest in the layout during 2019. I still can't get to grips with how many are interested in a layout in the attic! When I started in 2010 I'd never have thought there would be 57k people following me in 2019. It's very much appreciated. As always I'll be back with more progress in 2020, Cheers

What a great job on this building! I think it would be a great place for a couple of railfans on top of the building watching the action. Lemme see, tripod, ice chest (keep the root beer ice-cold!), maybe a lawn chair or two. Great action right there!

I remember going to a model railway exhibition at my dads work the post office AGD in Chesterfield and thought the modelling was amazing. I satrted buying bits as a kid but never had the skills to put anything together. My dad bought loads of rolling stock but never did anything with them. A few years ago I started buying items again and need to make a start when I get chance, if I get 50% the effect you have I will be happy.

Beautiful!! I love your channel and I have soon watched everything. The only thing I did not like was the toilet. I think it would have looked better with the door facing the window, at least one door. But as the rest of your stuff, beautiful. I am 60 years old and what difference this is comparing to my Märklin 50years ago. A circle and a few bags of green coloured powder poured over the area. I find it amazing on how I can enjoy your work and the best, your voice narrate the progress. I just relax watching the wonders.

The algorithm has delivered me here today to just say that one thing I've found, which really, really, sells a model, is the sound. It really puts you "in" the model. Also, a realistic light source that casts nice shadows also helps. Wonderful work you do!

Looks fantastic! Just a further idea about small retail businesses in the 80s: video rental shops. Pre-Blockbusters, they were small, local entrepreneurs, usually with just the one shop, sometimes doubling as an off licence or a corner shop. Also, maybe KP Foods could have a couple of smelly black plastic refuse sacks outside its side door?

A few years back I designed a PCB around a PIC micro that controlled the lighting in my wife's dolls house. I'm sure with the addition of an Arduino, 16 channel PWM "servo" board and a clock module and you could set up each room to automatically come on or turn off at preset times. The servo board would allow you to set the individual brightness for each LED too. - Excellent video, and look forward to seeing the layout develop further in 2020

Great job on the office building, it looks fantastic. The attention to detail makes all the difference and the lighting is the cherry on the cake. You could add a couple of those tiny rusty alarm boxes with a flashing LED or two as it is an insurance companies office and with the computer shop on the ground floor. Looking forward to seeing the Karate club come on. Great video as usual, exciting 2019, roll on 2020 and that station build, can’t wait. Happy new year Richard. Cheers, Jon.

Great work once again! I really like the way this building has developed. Good to see you've got some Amiga 500s advertised and some pics taken from the Amiga magazines back then. It would have been cool if you'd have made the shop a branch of SRS Computer Systems which I know sold Amigas in Watford back then ;-) That Amiga Computing magazine with the Terminator-style face on takes me back as well. I still have that very magazine from the early 90s. A bit more detail on the roof would be great as well. Try putting a satellite dish and a few more ariels up there, and maybe a few pigeons for good measure as well :-)

Taking the time and thinking through ideas and then making them into models, give you the results you were looking for., I think it has turned very good indeed. This is brilliant! But to someone who fusses over minuscule details of the roof vents of diesel locomotives, I'd like to point out that "Farce" is hardly a "prototypical" name for an insurance company. Happy New Year, Peter

Great bit of lighting there, definitely adds to the realism. Something I've just begun trying out is using a colour-changing LED lightbulb so I can create different ambient lighting conditions across the layout. For example, I can get an orange glow for sunrise/sunset, a dim blue for a moonlit night, that kind of thing. I'd definitely recommend you look into that, as it would complement your building lighting nicely I think.

Brilliant. One thing missing from those office desks is (I assume in the UK they had these as they did in the US and Germany) the massive tomes that were the phone books or directories that were printed by the phone companies that had the business listings (yellow pages in the US) or white pages for individual names and numbers; often combined into one large book.
