BRO, you do NOT scrape OFF the outside edge of the steel or angle the stone what so ever with it. It is meant to run parallel along the surface of the steel. If you are using coated steel, you are supposed to use a rubber skate stone, sold by howies so that it maintains the coating on the steel. If you have the leather strop, that is the only thing that you should be running along the edge of the steel

@@homemadepecanpieCrosby is a special case. Most guys are using 5/8-3/4 or shallower now. I’d recommend it too since you can get just as much bite and acceleration as long as you use your ankles right, but the shallow hollow will help you keep your speed much better.

@@homemadepecanpie It feels a little weird at first but you’ll probably end up preferring it lol. Takes maybe 20 mins to really get used to. If you weigh >170 lbs then just I’d just send it on 3/4. Could also go 5/8 first to dip your toes in. I’ve actually been debating going for the 1” radius, but I use a sparx and like the fire which only goes as high as 3/4.

Bro, I cringed when you took that abrasive honing stone to your runners at an angle. You’re supposed to hone the runner with the abrasive stone flat to the side of the blade. The leather strop is meant to hone at an angle. You’re just destroying the clean edge you just created.
