We do know "Skyward Sword" has to at least be canonical with "Breath of the Wild" & " Tears of the Kingdom", because we hear Fi's voice when Zelda is talking to the Master Sword in "Tears of the Kingdom".

Ocarina of Time is also referenced in the Zora Stone Tablets from Tears of the Kingdom, meaning Ocarina of Time is also definetly canon to the Wild duology.

Technically speaking, you can have bootstrap loops in branching timelines multiverse. You just have to understand that time lines are paths you travel, and sometimes a path loops back on itself.

What's funny about having so many darn time loops in the Zelda franchise is that it highly implies there's no _free will_ in the Zelda universe given all the predetermined outcomes with each new loop that's introduced. At this point Aonuma is just trolling the Zelda cast by forcing them to play along in his loops over and over again.

Older Zelda Games = Era of Myth Botw and Totk = Era of Prosperity Era of Prosperity happens after the Era of Myth. We know this for sure due to the developers comments. However, due to time travel we have no idea exactly what happened in the past timeline. Great video though, thought provoking :D

To me it's like this: link kills demise in skyward sword , goes back to his time and creates a new timeline. In this new timeline some events similar to the older games happened but probably in a diffrent way, that's why zelda mentions the older games in botw. The only thing i still cannot make sense is , if this is the case why didn't the zonai exist on the other timelines? We were in skyloft and there were no zonais there... but in this new timeline maybe some people stayed in the skies and envolved into zonais overtime? I don't know, this zonai thing is the only thing that messes with this theory for me.

I think that the past sections of TotK happen right before, during and right after SS. The first part of this is the secret stones. According to the masterwork book just released in Japan the stones predate the Zonai and were given to them by Hylia. This means that part of the story has to happen between the war with Demise and the events of SS. Before turning herself mortal Hylia entrusted the stones to the Zonai, who I believe was one of the five tribes that fought against Demise that hasn’t been identified yet. If I remember correctly only two of the tribes has been identified. The next part is the time period from SS. In the game we only get to see certain parts of the surface so it’s possible that the Zonai were around but not yet as prominent as they would become. For the next part look at the sky islands. They didn’t exist before the war with Demise but the Zonai ended up living on them so that has to happen after the end of SS. Especially when you factor in that there wasn’t a single Zonai seen in SS so they must have still been on the surface at the time. So years later the Zonai occupy the sky islands until whatever happened that forced them back to the surface. By this time the people on the surface forgot about the Zonai which is why they were described as having descended from the heavens. By this event there were very few Zonai left. Raru and Sonai meet and found the first Hyrule. It’s at this time that the first Ganondorf is born. I also think that there’s now only two timeline branches. The first branch is the fallen hero timeline and that EoW is going to take place on that timeline. The second branch is the child and adult timeline. For whatever reason the two timelines combined into one and BotW and TotK take place after the convergence. I think that’s why the image looks like it does. The fallen hero timeline is still going which is why it’s separated at the top. The other two timelines seem to end at the same point in the image with BotW and TotK seeming to be purposefully placed after them. In fact, the line separating the two timelines and BotW could signify the combining of the two timelines.

I subscribe to the second timeline, or the timeline Link and Zelda "left behind" at the end of SS leads to the alternate founding of Hyrule with a parallel Ganondorf which is the TotK/BotW backstory. The new book even says the Master Sword in this timeline may not be the OG one, which imo would lend some credence as Link takes the MS back with him to his timeline at the end of SS. It could also just take place very well into the future as suggested by the Director.

TotK has broken the spell of the timeline. The lore choices they made were so utterly nonsensical, and the lack of continuity, not only with the rest of the series, but with BotW itself, was utterly infuriating. I don't care what Aonuma and Fujibayashi say about this topic in interviews anymore. I think they are just following a PR script. And a very poorly written one at that, because my god some of their responses are utter nonsense. No wonder the amount of lore content in the community has been so dramatically diminished, ditto the view numbers. Like they said, "it's not fun anymore". The Zelda Team are basically treating continuity in the series, not even as a tease, but as a J.J. Abrams' Mystery Box.

Im writing this because some low info geek used the word " debunked" incorrectly and so im going full in on what was a thought experiment but screw it may as well break hearts. As somebody who grew up with a spiritual connection to this franchise, and at one point I felt like I was the only person trying to work on a timeline back in the 90s... I have a hot take... there has never been a sequel. Continuity is all marketing sparked by appealing to a recommendation by Nintendo America back in 1989. Show me a game that is not explained as a legend.. That clearly states a timeline split. That proves... no.. there isnt anything. Skyward sword and Tears of the Kingdom is the same point in time... THE SAME EVENTS...details change.. claims of reincarnation...just all part of the Legend. I know what the arguments were before there was an official timeline. Continuity is simply a different type of priority in Japan, as part of my argument. Same with Hollywood... promises promises, but the executives are going to do what they are going to do and will tell you whatever you need to hear. Take Majora's Mask for example, now compare it to the latest Green Knight movie relative to the King Arthur Legend. It's just a focus in and off the walls interdimensional mind trip Side Story. The legend of King Arthur has done what exactly for continuity? Now I know King Arthur's not a franchise. And that detracts from my point exactly how... don't understand my point, probably best to keep it to yourself. I wish the developers had a pre-planned continuity... instead it seems they have entirely relied upon fans rationalizing accidents. And it's quite possible the powers that b never planned on any game ever being a sequel... every game is a myth intended to show off game mechanics with a recognizable child fantasy facade. I'm not at all nihilistic or cynical. I think it's impressive what Legend with so much substance has been created. In the west we have so much talk about different universes and timelines.... those wonderful Japanese creators just wanted to tell a cool Legend. They know what the word means.

I can fix the time line in a couple sentences please read The golden goddesses created the world and left behind the triforce but where did they go I say they went to a new Hyrule and tried again after demise and hylia messed things up so there's more than one world and the goddesses remix the world over and over trying to get it right but it keeps happening weather it's Ganon majora or someone else the triforce gets messed with and sometimes never comes back together so they make a new world with a new triforce and that's how we got breath of the wild and tears of the kingdom

Series does not have a timeline. Nintendo is pure gaming and each plot is made to stand alone. Ever notice their games have not changed from the 80s except graphics wise?
