You can use a butter knife (rounded tip) to remove the knife sheath from the lash point. Slip it between the tab on the sheath and the lash point slot and gently twist, then slide the sheath clip out. Thanks for your videos. You’ve taught me a lot (beginning kayaker in early 70’s).

Ill try the butter knife, Thanks. Usually I break the holder, so we will see if that works. Glad you have enjoyed the videos.

I own the same one. I use the snap to hold my spray skirt. As for the knife, I feel the same as you. I have a bungie attached to the knife and it is around one of the loops on the shoulder strap, and I slide the knife in the handwarmer area

I paddle too many cold places to give up the hand warmer pocket to the knife!

@@AdventureOtaku I live in Northern BC where it gets pretty cold, I use the hand warmer a lot and find that I still have room for my hands.

Love my Sea Wolf
@AdventureOtaku2 жыл бұрын
I think that is what I was using! Right? The sea wolf (now called the blue jacket) is the class 3 version of the class 5 Green jacket. … Is that right?

Very curious why NOLS is going to type V for sea kayaking? For towing, away from waist belt tows or something else?

For towing. At least that was what I was told.

Cold Water has entered Long Island Sound, time for the wetsuit, almost time, but not yet, for the dry suit.

I never do wet suit. Never been a fan. I go right to the dry suit. Where in LI are you? I grew up in Smithtown, and did water stuff in Port Jeff.

@@AdventureOtaku My dry suit has become, ah, bit tight in the middle. Working on that. Wetsuit in this mild weather, temps in the 60's keeps me warm in the kayak and will save my life if I go out of it. It is cut wide under the armpits, zips on and off fast. Stamford CT. Nice real estate to gaze at while I paddle. Views of NYC, islands off Norwalk, drinks at the Ponus Yacht club while you wait at the dock, Rye NY, and annoy people as I paddle past Larchmont. When will you be doing classes in the NYC area? Fun fact about Dry V Wet suit: In 40 degree water, I can stand being in the water with the wetsuit for about 40 min max. In the dry suit, with proper liner, unlimited. Water temps are still in the 60's so wetsuit will give me time for rescue.

Wet suits work great, I just don’t like them. Not sure when I will be in NY, but I have family on LI. So it isn’t out of the questions. If you send me an email (BrettATadventureotaku.com) I am starting a list so I can coordinate teaching wilderness first aid courses where I have a chance to meet up with students.

I have this PFD and found it rides a bit high on me. This has made self rescues a bit different then what I've been used to coming from primarily surfski paddling and racing pfd's.
@AdventureOtaku2 жыл бұрын
I find every time I change PFD’s I have to make some tweaks to the way I self rescue. I’ve only paddled in the new PFD once, but already see I will need to make some more adjustments to it.
