New liitermaid multicat litter box compared to regular size littermaid box

I've had good luck with my Littermaid Litterboxes! I built a box for Littermaid to sit on. And the floor under where that catch tray is cut out and I installed a waste paper basket with a trash bag liner in under there. The trash basket just slides out the end of the box. The box is the heights to the waste paper basket. I line the waste paper basket with kitchen size trash bags (the white ones like we use in our under sink trash) and that's where the litter drops into. No more little flimsy trays that always flick litter in your eyes while you are trying to get it out to change. And as for the lid, I put a few dabs of hot glue on the round retainer post to just keep it there, since it doesn't get thrown out with the trash bag full of litter anymore. And it holds the scent thing. If it breaks I'll glue in a new lid. We could go a month without emptying if need be, but since it's so much easier to empty now it gets changed out every Saturday. We used the same trash bags inside the little trays for a while, but that grew old really fast. It sure saves on the cost of those flimsy trays they sell. Walmart plastic shipping bags make great liners too, if they don't have holes in them. (Hint: grab a few extra when you self checkout!) We have 2 cats. Other ate getting on in years. One is still an active thin cat that loves to hunt mice outdoors, then an overweight poop and eating machine that only gets off the couch to either eat or poop. Rarely will she step outside. But we are on our 3rd Littermaid Litterbox in 10 years. (A multi cat) The one we have inside the house doesn't work on automatic anymore, so I just tap the button off and on every time I think about it. (Bad sensor.) Beats getting on my hands and knees to scoop. .... (I'm older and don't bend over to well. Broke my back some years ago.) The old LM single cat one still works. I have it in my shop for the active cat to use when she's in the shop with me. Odd fact, my cats will not use the bathroom anywhere but in their litter box. They will insist on coming inside to use their bathroom.. Never in the flower beds.....

I had the regular size. I ended up giving up on it because my cats were too big for it. It lasted for over 3 years. You can cover the bin with a plastic disposable grocery bag. It makes it a lot easier to clean the waste container.. Just lift the bag out and cover with another bag! They say you can use any clumping litter ... Don't!!!! Only the lightweight clumping litter actually works! Anything else will mess up the rakes! The motor will burn out much quicker with the heavy litter! I went to a different system because the boxes were bigger, but now that they have the longer one in this, I'm going to get one and see if it works. My cats are kept in the house and fat and happy.... Too big for the regular size. I ended up cleaning up under the box where they peed on the end of it instead of actually getting into the box. I got tired of having pee under it all the time! Maybe the extra 3 inches will make a difference! I suspect they sent you a box someone else returned.... Definitely not good for business! 😡 I'm going to try one and see... Oh! And putting a grocery bag over the waste receptacle means you don't have to buy as many of them! I could change the bag about 3 times and then I had to change out the receptacle. They warp after a couple uses and have to be changed. I actually gave up on the lid liners...I kept buying boxes of them and they didn't fit. I use disposable gloves when I clean it and wipe the lid down with cleaner and disposable paper towels that get thrown in the grocery bag that I removed from the waste container.... Not too bad! I do highly recommend cleaning at least every other day! The longer you wait to clean it, the more waste you have to deal with, and the harder it is on the motor.

Thought I would a add a new comment (10/15/20) about a new auto litter box coming out soon from Kickstarter and then on Indiegogo in 12/2020. Its+ "Aimicat" and cost $249 in US funds. Its similar to the egg shaped Litter Robot 3 that cost some $450+. Read about the Aimicat and I think you'll see what the improvements are beside the price. For one it doesn't go by the weight of the cat but uses Infra Red System to tell if your kitty is in there or not. So a kitten can use it whereas they can't in the other systems... anyway, just an FYI. Besides all this trying to get a top to fit the hard box. Look for the hack to have the poop all drop into a bag below the Littermaid machine. Tells to how to build a simple wood frame around the machine raising it so the poop drop down into a larger plastic bag and you empty it once a week+ or so depending how ya build it. Google it.... ;)

another update. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT, IT IS GARBAGE, I fixed it a week ago and it has stopped working again, I finally had enough of it and threw it out, the most disappointing thing about Littermaid is that customer service or support from Littermaid is very very poor, as my lower comment I get no support what so ever, they didn't send replacement lids like they said they would back in Dec. 17, my recent calls went unanswered. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS, OR THE OTHER ONE UNDER THE NAME NATURE something sold at Petsmug! Its a waste of money, $160.00 for 7 months. I'm seriously thinking of getting the cat genie, much more expensive however it appears to do everything. I'm really disappointed with this product and the lack of customer support. I'm using the manual box now, and spending less time on it than this litter maid. Must be a union product, doesn't work worth a shit.

Epilogue, its been 6 months since I got the multi cat littermaid self cleaning box, my advice is NOT TO BUY THIS PIECE OF CRAP PRODUCT, I first complained to the company about the crappy lids that go with it, won't stay on, they said they would send me better quality lids, that was in Dec. 2017, its now July 2018, haven't received dick! A month ago I called the company because the box kept powering off, turned out to be the adapter, had to buy a new one, I called the company and left 2 messages because it was after hours, not once did I receive a response, no call back, no messages. NOTHING! Today I again had to spend time on it because the power wouldn't stay on, tested the adapter, works fine, tested the old adapter, won't work, so I took the unit apart and found a connection to the plug as loose, one touch and it popped off, spent an hour sodering it back on and putting it back together, in the past 6 months I've spent just as much time on this self cleaning model as a manual cleaning one, clearing litter out of the tracks, the rack popping off, trying to put the two parts back on straight is difficult,...my opinion, DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT, I SPENT $160.00 ON IT AND IT IS GARBAGE, WORSE IS THE LACK OF CUSTOMER SERVICE, THESE GUYS WILL NOT HELP YOU AND YOU WILL BE LEFT HIGH AND DRY. One more thing goes wrong with it and I'm buying a more expensive model, however not anything made by Littermaid. WHAT A WASTE OF MONEY! I buy the expensive light litter for the unit and spend more time cleaning it by hand than the unit doing it. GARBAGE!

I've had this for 24 hours, the bigger one works much better, only issue is these damn cheap lids, also, if your cat has a large pee or dump, it sticks to the rack, so you have to scrape it off at time, it worked great over night, bin was full. taking the small one back, emptying the bin causes litter to spill out, so get the broom, for less than $150.00 its worth it. litter gets into the track line when they use it, so it makes crackling noises, so you have to clear that out from time to time, other than that is OK!

You might want to put a plastic shopping bag in the hard plastic box so you only throw the free bags away instead of the expensive poop boxes they sell ya. Have fun saving money!

EPILOGUE.... I threw the unit in the garbage after 9 months, kept stalling, breaking and having to fix it, clean it out, waste of time and money, Littermaid people were absolutely no help. leave messages, never call me back, don't waste your money on this, I use manual litter boxes, much more convenient that fighting with this piece of garbage.

These things suck for multiple cats. My cats are stupid so they pee on the rake or the plastic box. It's a hassle to clean the entire thing while not trying to damage the electronics. If you have a fat cat beware.

I have the gray (multicat) even though we only have one cat. It's worked really well for us for and we've had it since January 2017. My sister and I hate cleaning the litter box but this has helped maintain and keep it smelling fresher longer. the only this is this machine is sooo damn loud! It's sooo annoying. I feel like its gotten a little louder since we've gotten it. I cleaned the tracks last night and it did make it less quite but still annoyingly loud. UGH. 😖 the plastic covers we use fit just fine and don't fall off easily. We use "LitterMaid Waste Receptacles for Self-Cleaning Cat Litter Box" maybe try those out. ☺️

I would not recommend it at all. Mine quit working completely, I still used it as a litter box however emptied it manually. I finally threw it out last week. I'm using an igloo model I bought 10 years ago. I bought new air filters for it, cost $4.00 for 2, my 3 cats use it, of course I clean it several times a day, and it is much more convenient, when I go to the bathroom, I clean it out, no litter on the floor and I don't need to buy those little containers. I had one all the time that worked great. Try using the lite litter and it will be quieter, I had the smaller one you had, then went to the big one, it was fine but used more litter because it pushed some good litter in the bin. I use my less now. THIS PRODUCT AND CUSTOMER SERVICE IS TERRIBLE. DON'T BUY LITTER MAID!

Thanks for the suggestions, will definitely look into a lite litter to see if that helps. I guess we just got lucky that this still works after 1 year, but the noise it makes is just soo irritating.

I've had this for more than a month, I spend more time fixing the lids that have slipped out, don't fit and stay in properly, litter everywhere, clearing the litter from the tracks to stop the noise, you need to use the light litter, it works better that way, but those damn lid containers, not made properly, I spend more time on this one than the manual one, its great if you've got time to waste, but I wouldn't recommend it, called the company, they said they would send me the more expensive lids, that was 2 months ago, gotten nothing. not recommended.

that is A and Hammer litter, you need to use the light litter with this machine, if not get will jam up, and the rake eventually starts to bow....don't waste your money on it, I through it out. back to scooping, less frustration, and cheaper to use.

jingle jazz I had this same problem with those dumb flimsy lids. Plus that little container fills up way to fast then the lid won't close and then you smell up the house with cap poop smell. Gee a part of me is really tempted to take a chance on it, even tho overwhelmingly people are saying not too.... But from my research the best automatic litter box on the market is the Litter Robot III....But $600 Canadian..... That's inconsiderable.... Who knows if "one day" I could swing $300 if its truly great..... Even then tho.. I'd pass.... This one is at least affordable, so I am hoping our 1 small cat wont stress it to much..... But as much as I want an automatic litter box.... I likely should stay away from it....

this model on the right, blue one is for a single cat, I got the big one because I've got 3 cats. the small one is inexpensive, however I think it would be ok for the price, however if your looking for customer support from the company, you won't get crap. I still have the one on the left, the expensive one, and it quit after 8 months, I still use it and empty it manually, $160.00 manual litter box, nice. cleaning it manually uses less litter, if you get it buy the A & M, lightweight clumping litter, heavier litter makes the unit struggle and causes the rake to bend and even stop. I've looked at that expensive one you're talking about, seen the vids on youtube, yes its impressive, but always read the comments, there are lots of complaints of it getting clogged up, making lots of noise, however the cartridges are expensive as well. me, still looking

I actually just purchased one today, I got a completely different brand. It also has mixed reviews but lean more positive. I just came home with it, the (Pet Zone, Smart Scoop) It was on clearance at my local Canadian Tire for $112 I also had $60 saved up of my digital Canadian Tire money. So with taxes I walked out with it for $69 not bad. Fingers cross this one will work good for me, maybe if you can find one at your local Canadian Tire on clearance like I did maybe worth checking out! @@jinglejazz7537 I had a litter robot. Its good overall BUT, it was kind of gross that it turns and the litter is basically swished all over the entire inside. One of cats kept attacking it when it was in its cycle. Because the unit shuts off when the cat came is was going on and off then on and off and it literally broke it.

I use arm and hammer dual cat litter, and other of the same brands now that I no longer use this littermaid box, its garbage, if you're going to use the littermaid crappo machine, then use the arm and hammer light litter, or it will ruin your machine, you'll end up using more litter than the old way. its not a good system, save your money, I use the old litter boxes, scoop it out several times a day, its cheaper, cleaner and more reliable. I've got 3 cats.

again, another update, I threw the littermaid box out, poor quality, more work than a regular box, expensive and wastes litter, only lasted a total of 9 months, I've been back to manual litter box, more convenient, less expensive and far less headaches, littermaid help line was absolutely no help what so ever. I took the old one back, blue one, the bigger one works much better with 3 cats, but those fucking lids still don't fit properly, the company is sending better bins made by Natures Miracle, however I read the reviews on them and they have the same problem, Why a company can't make a product that fits properly, measure twice cut once....unbelievable....like the bigger one however if the waste is wet it sticks to the rake, have to scrape it off, this item needs some work.

they make it according to specs, if its cheap quality its because the Littermaid company wanted it that way, DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS THING, I'VE GONE BACK TO USING REGULAR LITTERBOXES FOR THE CATS, AND ITS WORKING MUCH MUCH BETTER THAN THIS PIECE OF CRAP, BUY FROM AMAZON, TRY IT OUT, YOU CAN RETURN IT..!
