New liner for Intex 24 foot round metal frame pool.

I just bought a18' round 48"Coleman pool. It's still in the box in my garage as I type this. I read reviews that say the liners are about 50% chance that it will leak on the first filling. I thought about putting in an 18'overlap liner in it brand new to make sure it wouldn't leak. I went searching on KZbin to see if anyone else had tried that before and found this video. Needless to say I just ordered a new liner to go over the new liner in my new pool. It's an excellent idea! I'm positive that I won't have any leaks. The reviews also said the steel support rails were prone to rusting. I figure the over lap liner will completely cover the rails and keep them dry and free of rust. My pool was only $409.00 total from Walmart and the new liner I ordered was $135.00. So i will have $544.00 into a pool that I know will last longer and not leak. It is worth the extra money

Do you have to Coleman pool with windows or the one without? I purchased the one with windows about a week ago and haven’t put it up yet. I’ve kinda been putting it off because I’ve seen a lot of reviews about the windows leaking. I was thinking if I put this on when I set it up it would solve the problem before it happens lol.

Great 👍 Job! I purchased the same pool 24x52... 2 years ago..Intex style and had to call it in twice and get a new liner under the warranty, because whomever was operating the forklift punctured it somewhere in transport..to the store and even when they sent me a replacement.. Finally last summer got it up and running and my youngest daughter had company and they horseplayed around so much that it pushed one of the steel support stands off of the cement foundations, causing the lower seam to split and out came the water 💧..😡..So this year I have to do what you've done with the overlap liner within the old damaged one.. You gave me me the blueprint .. Wish me.luck....I will definitely 👍 have to inquire during that time of installation if you don't mind.. Im Rob from Portsmouth Va...

Hi Mike. It's me again. I installed my 18' ft round Intex pool & after watching your video I can't tell you how impressed I am! I am on my fifth year on my pool & I was so disgruntled over the performance of the cartridge filter pump that came with it that last year I converted to a sand filter & installed a 1.5 hp pump. The cost was for my little upgrade was upwards of $900.00, whew. I haven't spent a minute regretting it! I love the way you have set up your system. It almost makes me wish I had opted to purchase the 24 ft, but I choose to keep my sanity. I have learned that owning & maintaining a pool takes commitment & it's not all rest & relaxation. I commend you on all that you have done to get the most from your pool. I noticed that you have a skimmer mounted on your pool. I have gotten by so far without one but I keep pondering on installing one. Can you share with me some details about your skimmer please? Boy you sure got that right, pools are or can be a lot of work but in the end very much worth it. I am due to make a new video since some things have changed on my pool, maybe this weekend I can get to that. Anyway Im glad you are enjoying yours. If you have a hacksaw, some sandpaper for smoothing where you cut and some PVC pipe you can make your own clamps by cutting the pipe to lengths and cutting slot lengthways.

I had patched 4 or 5 holes and they held for a year but the bottom was so thin my vacuum would pull off the patches and rip the floor even more. it was literally paper thin from use, chemicals and the sun.

Very Helpful video!!! I think we are going to go this route to "fix" our old summer escapes pool. Weve been trying "flex tape".. and that would work if we knew exactly WHERE the hole is. The drains on the Intex are tiny little ports for a garden hose. I have never used them, you can use your pool pump to drain the pool much quicker. So in this case I just covered them.

Hey dang 2016 hopefully you still around quick question. Did you have to use or did you use Pool Coves the bottom angeld foam pieces? Looks like they are just for the metal frame pools? This whole buisness is a RACKET. Why don't they just build the damn pools with the same material as the good "new liners". Or build the bottoms like the damn side walls. It's BS thick solid walls yet the bottom is cheaper then the cheapest trap you can buy at a hardware store. But great for buisness. It's a RACKET. Hey awesome video tho totally helps. The intex liner is the bulk of the strength of the pool, without it the regular pull liner will not work.

Shannon Kendrick on an intex they are just holes for the fittings to pass through so I cut and x across the area where the hole is and pushed the fitting through then trimmed off the extra around the fitting before putting the nut on it.

Hi watching your video I have the summer waves got a hole in my liner I had used tape to fix it, the hole had gotten bigger over night. I’ve looked into the pool liners noticed it doesn’t have the holes for the posts. Do I empty the pool out put the tape on the hole then add the new liner above the old one?

Taylorann H yes the new liner goes inside the old one and over the top edge and down around the outside. The only holes I cut were for the fittings. I’m actually doing another liner this weekend and this time I cut the drains at the bottom out of the old liner completely.

Hi Mike, I have the exact same pool but I think mine is 22 foot x 52" high. I was thinking of doing the same thing. Last year I patched a bunch of holes and swore if it leaked this year I was taking an axe to it! This year I can already see some light shinning through a few spots. I had contemplated on doing an overlap liner but couldn't quite figure out how to keep it secure. I seen those clips and thought that was ingenious. The big question is, have the clips over come off accidentally? I won't be using the drain ports at the bottom either so one less thing to worry about.

Seems to be pretty hard to locate a 22 foot overlap though. 21 and 24 are the only sizes available out there. I may have to go with a 24 and deal with the excess.

Hi Mike. Do you think a wrap-around liner like the one you used "can" work with the Intex Ultra Frame pool? I don't think the 2" clips will work on the oval shaped frame parts. But, I'm wondering if the clips are even 100% necessary. It looks like the liner in your pool wraps over tight enough where the liner could be snugged up by other means. Your thoughts?

Greg Bacon Yeah there is a guy who did it with an ultra frame. He didnt use any clips at all. I think he used rope along the top around the outside I can actually remove my clips and everything stays put so it might work without clips at all.

Greg Bacon 25 gauge this time (installing new liner because the sun destroyed it in two years, it’s dry and frequently over 100 here). Going to build a top cap out of plastic rain gutter to put along the top edge of the pool to keep the sun off the part that goes over the top.

I didn't use a vacuum. I just began filling the pool and let the weight of the water expand the liner to touch the old Intex liner. I cut the holes after the water was about 2 inches below where the hole would be cut. That way I was sure the liner would not need to move further down into the pool as it filled.

Hi Mike. I have an 18 ft round Intex pool that I am prepared to install an overlap liner to. I have a question about the clamps you used along the top rail. Since our pools have the same metal frames, I'm guessing the top rail measures the same, about 3 inches. I found the clamps but according to the website they are 4" X 1 1/2". Yes it’s a standard overlap liner for a above ground pool. Works just fine on intex pools as long as your original pool frame and liner is in decent shape. The original intex liner is basically the item that supports the weight (along with the frame). All you’re doing is putting a standard liner inside the original pool and securing the the overhang with the white greenhouse clamps to the top metal tube. The liner I used was a 20 gauge. I would advise to go as thick as possible though. Wished I would have went with 30.

To be honest might work anyway. The clips are not really hold it up. More or less they are keeping the overhang from flipping up in the wind. They have no structural purpose once the water is in.

I was wondering what I would do when the pool liner starts to thin out, and thanks to you I now know. I'll have to figure out a way to hold the new liner to rail because my rail isn't round, it like a round tube that has been flattened out a bit. The only way I can describe it LOL... Goodolboy One got the liner online at a pool supply house. One thing I’ve noticed in other videos since mine is that some folks are not even using clips at the top. It seems that the water weight inside and the overlap over the top and folded down hold the liner just fine.

First time pool owner here. We bought a new house in the fall that came with a 24 foot pool and great deck. From what I can gather the pool is at least 4 seasons old and since setting it up it seems like I have had to patch leaks every week. A new liner seems like a promising solution as I will NOT be doing this hole hunting junk next season. My question is did you put in the lower drains? When it came time to drain the filth and scrub the pool this spring (a 3 day task) I first attempted to drain the pool using the pump but had to resort to the bottom drain.

You can check with Intex to see if they sell a replacement. Unfortunately you need the Intex liner since its a major structural part of the pool design.

Some can but the Intex is soft sided so it may not work.
