As a successful single father of 2 kids, let me tell you...make time to wrench. I did not let being a single dad keep from doing my passions and interests. It's easy, include them (even when they are babies) in things you do. Do not stay home because "of the kid". Take them with you, everywhere. Put that baby safely with you in the shop and let them hangout with you when you wrench.
