This has really inspired me to get to grips with sampling and create my own library of sounds, or at least digitise my instruments. I can really see this opening up some new possibilities for my compositions and I know that I will enjoy experimenting with instruments and sounds that I might otherwise have my hands full with trying to record in a more traditional way. This is exciting! Thanks again for sharing your knowledge and experience with this subject!

I am on Windows so I use Kontakt. I am also new to creating sampler instruments. I took a folk instrument call a Can-jo and sampled it. It did not work at all like I thought it would. But so far, I have learned a lot. This is a big help on sample instrument building. I will use some of these ideas on my Kontakt Can-jo. Once I have learned how to do this well, I will re-record the instrument and make a better version. Thanks Christian.

Good to see. Have you found any choke feature? For drum samples. Software samplers aren't samplers. They are sample players. Native Instrument didn't agree to this when I many years ago argued about the difference. Apple have the resources to make Kontakt completely obsolete but for some reason they hold back quite a bit. I really like the new interface. I would like to see a lot more advanced features as well. And I certainly would like to see a revamped file handling system where I can save a folder where ever I want including all files needed.

Drum Machine Designer has choke groups and works by ganging up Quick Samplers together. Pads have “exclusive” assignment groups. Also, Quick Sampler actUally offers a recorder for capturing samples.

@watercolourmark4 жыл бұрын
The Sample player in Ableton Live and Bitwig is called Sampler. Cubase has Sampler Track, FL Studio has Channel Sampler. I think all of them are easier names to understand than EXS24, what is that? What does it mean? Oh, it's a Sample player - compared to something just called Sampler is far easier to understand and explain. The only problem I have with the naming of these Samplers, as you allude to in the video, is that they aren't Samplers - they are sample playback devices. I've been looking for a computer instrument that I can record a vocal 'doh' on the fly and have mapped to keys in real-time. But hard to impliment due to the notion of it being both an audio and midi sample player on the same track. Yet I have found a few multi-track Max for Live devices that get close to this like the Granulator II. And I am in the process of making my own Max device to do exactly what I am after. I'll get there.

Interesting that you say it doesn't feel 'Apple' but feels like 'Logic'. Logic was originally German company C-Lab's 'Notator' (on the Atari ST), then went to E-Magic, then to Apple. Maybe there are some of the original programmers still working on it...

Very interesting, they’ve taken a couple of pages out of Ableton Live’s book, with Lives’ Sampler and Simpler instruments. Both are quick and easy when you want them to be, but also have the depth to do deep sampling when you need to. Almost going away from the Kontakt or Halion approach. I bought Halion this year, before I had Live, as Halion was the “mega powerhouse sampler”. However, since getting Live, I’ve not touched Halion, it’s just overwhelming with menu after menu. Yet I’ve done more sampling than ever though with Lives’ Samplers. Quick, creative and easy beats the monolith samplers for day to day use. Looking at this update makes me wish they did Logic for Windows, I can’t see it ever happening though!
@CRASS20474 жыл бұрын
You can run ableton on a Mac, trust me as a lifelong windows and android user, Apple having designed the software and apps to run on their own hardware makes the experience and workflow leaps and bounds better than anything else. Buy an iMac or MacBook Pro and if you don’t like it, take it back. I have slowly switched over to Apple. First an iPad, then phone, and finally a year ago got an iMac and Logic. NEVER GOING BACK!. Recently I had to use my 2 year old windows touchscreen laptop and I wanted to throw it out the window. Trust me you will love a Mac.

@@CRASS2047 Very interesting, thank you! The recent updates to Live, especially the new samplers, have made me very jealous! The new sampler has a lot of problems, unlike its predecessor. I will list only a few of them. After the autosampler forms a multi-velocity instrument, it creates a velocity crossfade (xfade), although I did not ask for it. Samples are stacked on top of each other. As a result, the sound has an eerie chorus effect. After that, there is no way to reset the crossfade in the new sampler, and in the good old exs24 this can be done, but after saving the new sampler here does not accept these changes. It takes a lot of time to solve this seemingly simple problem. It is also not possible to arrange samples on the keyboard indicating the interval of their location. I don’t need the program to decide for me where to place the samples. Further, if I want, for example, to save my preset later in a different format, using quickampler as a transit application, and I need quicksampler, which created the library from one file, to save each sample as a separate file. However, Quicksampler is not even able to do this. And then there are a lot of complaints about the work of this, it seemed, new application, but it has a lot of shortcomings and creates problems in the work. The only thing that pleased me here was Autoloop. This is where my enthusiasm for this new plugin ends. It is very good that I have Mainstage in my arsenal, where the old EXS24 is still installed, where I can solve all of the above, and not only problems. However, anyway, thanks for the review.

Hi I have recorded some bird sounds Now should I bring them into Logic and Zoom way in and cut each bird song the zero crossing and create a perfect seamless loop first then bring them in to he sampler to use to start to build a virtually instrument ? Or do anything just drag into the sampler ?

I'm really curious about one thing: why are piano sample instruments focused on having all the machine, lever, and pedal, etc., noises? Those are sort of "flaws" of the piano as an instrument. Why not make an "idealized" piano instrument without these noises, and focus on the "intended" or "idealized" sound of the piano?

90s and early 00s libraries are often as you described. Nowadays seems trendy to have all the mechanical noises. Many kobtakt libraries let you adjust the amount.
