Great video - I came across this as I was trying to find the value of my singer. When you use waterslide paper, you can print it off, lightly spray it with clear coat three times letting dry in between each spray, and then when you soak it, it will come off the backing paper and not tear when you apply and burnish the water out. From one crafter to another. Great job!

Fresh shellac is the best shellac. You can buy the resin and mix small batches with grain alcohol.

My Juliette is a Model 27 from 1907. The plan is to do a japanning finish to maintain close to original.

You did the nickel plating? How awesome is that? Next time you do some replating would you be able to show us your set up and explain your process please? This is another thing I want to learn how to do. I've worked on rescuing a few old machines and have become sort-of beyond beginner but nowhere near expert yet. Mine are all quite all old (all over 70 and most over 100) and people must have stored a lot of them in some pretty damp conditions over the years. So I've got quite a few things where the nickel plating is just gone and I'd love to put it back without taking it to the professionals. I asked a couple of professionals for quotes and they wanted to charge me well over $100 just to do a slide plate.
