I fit some new magura mt7 brakes on my inspired arcade pro. i give my initial opinion on these brakes and find a pad knock issue that bugs me. i solve this issue using ducktape.

Think that Shimano rotors are too thin for the Magura's. I had the same issue when first using my MT5's. Magura's new rotors are 2.1mm thick. The recomended minimum thickness for a Magura rotors is 1.8mm, jus as thick as new Shimano's.

You have to bed the brakes. It is a 30 steps process. For 30 times on a slight slope at 20mph, brake without locking until full stop, repeats this 30 times, and you are good to go. It is in the german manual

I know how to bed brakes in I'm a bike mechanic with 4 years pro experience. Even. When bedded in these brakes will have pad rock. On a trials bike where the brake spends a lot of time locked this makes a horrible sound hence the tape

@@jamespachebat6707 sure, I didn’t knew you were a Mechanic. Magura brakes are very finicky and the 30 steps is mentioned in the manual which most people overlook, and you mentioned not a firm grip I didn’t paid attention to noise, so I focused o the caliper grip on disc.

@@jamespachebat6707 Being a bike mechanic doesn't mean you know everything, let alone anything. Not every brake pad has the same bedding process. For example, the fact that you're using too thin of rotors for the brakes shows your ignorance. So, don't act so high and mighty when you're not even using proper components together

The bed in period, does not stop the rattling of the brakes. You need brake grease brembo b quiet.

Did you reduce the brakes cables? I have become magura mt7 breaks for my trial bike but I don't know if I should cut the cable or just leave it in full length.. Can you help me? I have an Inspired flow plus

I left the rear pretty long but cut the front down, there very eask to cut down shorted just make sure you know how to install a new barb and olive and be aware you may need to bleed them after

Aren't you nervous about the tape glue melting out to the pads or rotor?

If the brake gets that hot I'd have already glazed the pads and rotor

@@jamespachebat6707 so have you kept this set up for a few months then? The drift is bothersome to me as well and I would imagine there is less lever travel too with a virtually thicker pad

Had these brakes for a while no issues with the duct tape, had issues with the levers and ended. Up just switching to a hope brake set up

“Pad rock” is going to be multiplied by having 2 sets of pads in one caliper. I know nothing about brake applications for trials riding but I don’t think Magura markets these for such an application.
@hitary1
@hitary1 3 жыл бұрын
I think the reason for your pad rock trick working is the Magura rotors are a bit thicker than the shimano rotors.

What the meaning of the pad rock?

2 Years late...but, you are 100% correct. I had similar sensation with a set of rotors I had sitting around until I read up on this. Putting duct tape on that side might cause some issues with the pistoins binding if the adhesive makes it through the non sticky side with all the heat and pressure. Innovative but not sure this is a "fix" I'd reccomend.

You dropped the bike yet since fitting MT7's? Those carbotechture (plastic) levers just get destroyed as soon as they touch concrete. I made a lever protector for mine that at least stops the bleed screw area from getting damaged when the levers touch the floor, see here: live.staticflickr.com/65535/50513577847_9fe913ec0a_o.jpg and here: live.staticflickr.com/65535/50513413671_ff5d89c5b4_o.jpg I figure at least I won't start loosing oil mid ride by damaging the area around the bleed screw.

Pad rock on brand new brakes fades slowly after use. By applying duct tape you're just delaying the natural wear needed for the piston to grip the back of the pad. Plus this will cause brake rub and you will have to setup the brakes again to allow for the extra space taken by the tape. Once the tape has worn down your brakes will feel rubbish again. DON'T DO THIS FOLKS.

This is intended for use on trials bikes and is recommended by places such as tarty bikes and Ali Clarkson and there is always pad rock in brakes even after long term use, when the tape wears out all you do is replace it 😉

What does premium brand magura says about duct tape? They should bettter advise copper grease or brembo b quiet on the back of their pads. Unbelievable its stupid from the Germans.
